I shared a meal with a close friend. We decided to be moderate in our usual big eating because there were only two of us! We shared rock oysters, grilled mackerel, and thread-sail filefish sashimi. The rock oysters were surprisingly delicious for the end of the season, the grilled mackerel with ginger soy sauce was perfect, and the thread-sail filefish liver was sweet! Thank you for the feast.

I had a seafood bowl at the Torotoro Center. It's interesting how everyone in my family eats different things. There was a crab bowl, a salmon roe bowl, a salmon and green onion bowl, and a sea urchin and green onion bowl. The taste was okay, just decently delicious. Maybe it felt less filling this time because I had a seafood bowl in Hokkaido last year. Perhaps it's the tourist spot prices. My son didn't feel satisfied at all. Inside, there were various fish shops, and many people were eating seafood skewers grilled there. There seems to be a wide variety of souvenirs available.

During my journey, I stopped by for lunch. I usually don't eat much seafood, but everything looked so delicious that I decided to try a variety of dishes. The grilled mackerel was tender and juicy with a nice fatty texture. The grilled scallops were large and satisfying to eat. The big oysters had a unique taste of the sea.

The abalone was cheap and delicious! I went before 5 o'clock, so the sushi and seafood bowls were already sold out. They also stopped grilling the items we ordered because they had finished grilling. I bought abalone and had it sliced for sashimi. It had a slightly chewy texture. The liver was delicious without any unpleasant smell. I ordered grilled golden eye snapper and fresh rock oysters. The soy sauce came in a small styrofoam dish with packets of soy sauce and wasabi, so it was a bit messy to eat as it would splatter on clothes when torn open, and we had to ask for a wet towel. I'm a bit clumsy, but it would have been better if they provided a better quality soy sauce on the table.

I went to Shimane and Tottori prefectures not long ago, but I was not satisfied with the food there, so I decided to seek revenge here in Maizuru and visited the Toretore Center. It's not as big as the Toretore Market in Shirahama, but it was satisfying enough in size! It's the season for fresh oysters now, and every store was busy shucking them open! I tried a medium-sized fresh oyster and it was so creamy and delicious! I wanted to have another one but I resisted. They were selling fresh bluefin tuna for 2,100 yen, so I had it sliced on the spot and it was honestly the best tuna I've ever had! I indulged in grilled pufferfish, grilled triggerfish, grilled clams, grilled venus clams, assorted sashimi, eel, and more until I was full of seafood! You can buy rice at the dining area inside the center and take it out, so you can put the fish you bought on top of the rice and make a seafood bowl! You can eat as much as you want of your favorite foods here! It's no wonder Inogashira Goro from "The Solitary Gourmet" comes here to eat. I also bought some souvenirs like delicious looking fish cakes, cod roe, and dried mackerel for dinner at home. It was a fish feast! Compared to living in Tanba Sasayama where fish is expensive, not tasty, and hard to come by, this place felt like heaven! If I start craving fish again, I'll definitely come back!

I visited after a long time. This might be my fourth time here? It was crowded today, probably because it's Sunday lunchtime and after the pandemic. I managed to order seafood grill and sashimi again. This time, I had fresh oysters, mantis shrimp, sea urchin, abalone (half sashimi, half butter grilled), grilled shellfish (scallops, oysters, large clams, turban shells), grilled blowfish milt with salt, and grilled eel skewers. It was my first time in a while, but the staff at Okada Sengyo-ten remembered me, which made me happy. I also bought a set of rice and miso soup halfway through and had it like an eel bowl. It was delicious and I was happy. I will visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the seafood market on Saturday afternoon and it was bustling with many people. I bought scallops, shrimp, and oysters. You can choose how you want to eat them. I had the oysters raw with ponzu sauce, and the scallops and shrimp were grilled. It was a bit difficult to get the attention of the staff because it was so crowded, but I managed. The prices for the seafood grill were a bit high, but they also had options like seafood bowls for those looking for better value.

I enjoyed fresh grilled octopus and squid at Fish Market. The squid was grilled on the spot and seasoned perfectly. The octopus had a rich flavor and was absolutely delicious. You can choose between lemon or ponzu sauce for the oysters.

I headed to Ine with anticipation for the reopening of the rock oyster season in May, but the place was too crowded and the shops closed early, so I couldn't get my hands on any rock oysters. Determined to eat them during my trip, I rushed to Maizuru. Here, you can purchase seafood at the market and eat it as is. Depending on the size, rock oysters cost around 700 yen on average. I enjoyed them fresh and delicious. In addition to seafood bowls at the diner, you can also order a rice set with white rice and miso soup, creating your own original meal.

A group of friendly older men went on a day trip together. They timed their visit to coincide with the start of the rock oyster season. The oysters were large, creamy, and full of the scent of the sea – all top-notch. They also enjoyed shrimp, blowfish milt, sweet shrimp, yellowtail, horse mackerel, and horse mackerel – all incredibly delicious! They forgot to take a photo of the squid, thread-sail filefish, and they were seriously good! Thank you for the feast. We will come back again!

I was not satisfied with the seafood dish I had the day before, so I decided to stop by Maizuru Michi no Eki. I arrived around 10:30 in the morning, but the parking lot was already full. There were no parking attendants to guide me, so I wandered around for about 5 minutes until I found a spot at the edge of the lot. I explored the shop and bought 2 fresh oysters, which were said to be delicious. The staff put ponzu sauce on them for me, and I found a seat to enjoy them. The oysters were large and flavorful, and I finished them in no time. In my personal opinion, they were almost as delicious as the ones I had in Nikaho, Akita. I recommend arriving early if you plan to visit this place. Maizuru has tourist spots like the Brick Museum and the naval base, but just a 5-minute drive from the Michi no Eki is an old-fashioned fishing port where you can relax.

Lunch today at "Michi no Eki Maizuru Toretore Center"♪ Enjoyed a variety of seafood dishes including large clams, fresh crab legs, grilled blowfish, abalone, Maizuru rock oysters, sushi, and red miso soup. I used to visit this place before the pandemic and it was nice to have seafood grill and sushi after a long time. It's sad to see fewer shops compared to before. They sell fresh fish and shellfish which you can have them grill for you on the spot. I want to go back again soon. Thank you for the delicious meal♪ #Gako's lunch #Gako and Michi no Eki #Michi no Eki Maizuru Toretore Center #Seafood grill

As it is a roadside station, the facilities are geared towards tourists and the prices are tourist prices. But for those who come from elsewhere, it's convenient to quickly get a taste of the local specialties. You can also park your car here. Also, although it is grouped under "Toretore Center," inside there are several seafood shops, rice bowl shops, etc., so the shops where you buy fish and the shops where you buy rice are separate.
Location:
Maizuru is divided into west and east. This is the west side. It is a large roadside station located along National Route 175. The parking lot is also large, but it tends to get full due to the high number of customers. It might be better to go with some extra time during the peak season.
Exterior:
A sign saying "Seafood Market!" and a crab monument are the landmarks.
Interior Atmosphere:
Upon entering, there is a large fish tank, and there are counter seats where you can eat while watching it, but it was crowded on the day I visited. Unfortunately, there were no fish in the tank, maybe they were sold out (laughs). Further inside, there are seafood shops. Various colorful fish and shellfish are lined up. Although several shops are lined up, it's hard to tell which one is good or different, so I just went to the shop where I made eye contact with the staff (laughs). The seating area is like a food court, but there are no empty seats. It's better to secure a seat first before buying. Also, you have to purchase items like draft beer and rice separately at the set meal shops, which also tend to have long lines. *Grilling is done by the shops. You will be given a calling buzzer after purchase, so you go pick it up when it rings.
Food:
The shop I visited this time was "Okada Sengyo-ten". It is located on the far right when facing the front. Their lineup of shellfish was particularly impressive. The king-size oysters cost 1000 yen, but they are huge and rare to come by. I enjoyed eating oysters that you can't easily find elsewhere. They also have a variety of shellfish. Additionally, for seafood grilling, they offer sets with a small amount of various types, making it convenient for solo travelers or couples. Also, although I couldn't eat it in the end due to lack of stomach space, the grilled fatty mackerel looked delicious. Grilled whole mackerel to bite into. Please check it out when you visit this place. It is located at the far right end.

Inside the Maizuru Toretore Center, there are various shops lined up where you can have fresh seafood cooked for you on the spot. I couldn't decide which one to choose~(;'∀') All the shops had almost the same prices. I found a rare shrimp from Maizuru and ordered it. It was so sweet and delicious~!! I also had grilled oysters and scallops with butter and soy sauce, which I love♡ The dried alfonsino was also delicious(^^♪ Rice and miso soup were sold separately. I bought some Maizuru specialty fish cakes to take home~!

I stopped by for lunch and there are shops inside the market where you can buy food and eat on the spot. I waited in line for a bit and had some sushi. The cost performance is decent, but... it's neither good nor bad, just average. If you have time, it might be worth it to stroll around and try different foods in the market.

This is a great shop where you can enjoy delicious seafood and find a variety of souvenirs. There is plenty of parking available. I stopped by to use the restroom and took a look around the shop. They had a good selection of dried fish such as mackerel, hokke, and horse mackerel, but I ended up choosing horse mackerel this time. It was big, thick, and had a nice amount of fat, making it very delicious. It's fun just to browse through the different seafood options available at various shops.

I came to eat lunch! Arrived around 12 o'clock and had to wait 40 minutes for grilled dishes. No wait for seafood bowls or sushi. The scallops and squid were delicious and very tender with a rich flavor. The crab was disappointing, very empty. The fact that they have a parking lot is very convenient.

I had a meal set for around 300 yen, which included fresh sashimi that was prepared by a fishmonger. The buri (yellowtail) was 2,000 yen and had a firm texture like hamachi, with a fatty part that wasn't too heavy. The aori ika (bigfin reef squid) was 1,200 yen, and it had a nice firm texture without any fishy smell. The price included cooking fees, and it was cheap and filling.

The 134th installment of "The Lonely Gourmet" visits the restaurant at Maizuru Port Michi-no-Eki Toretore Center in Kyoto Prefecture. The main character, Inogashira Goro, enjoys a feast of Maizuru crab sashimi and grilled crab, savoring the rich flavors and sweetness of the fresh crab meat. The experience is described as a moment of pure bliss, with the sashimi's exquisite taste leaving a lasting impression. The grilled crab, on the other hand, offers a different kind of sweetness that complements the sashimi perfectly. The review captures the essence of the dining experience, highlighting the unique flavors of Maizuru crab and the joy of indulging in a delicious meal.

I used my company's vacation and came for a day trip on a weekday. Due to COVID, there were no buses, and most people came in their own cars. The restaurant was also empty. They offer pufferfish, squid, octopus, and various shellfish. You choose what you like, they grill it on the spot, and when it's ready, they call you to pick it up. Prices range from 300 to 500 yen, with some items costing over 1000 yen (like a large pufferfish). They don't serve rice dishes, so I bought a bowl with pickles at a nearby shop for 220 yen. It may seem expensive, but it's the price of a tourist spot. I tried squid, octopus, shrimp, pufferfish, scallop, horned turban, and red clam, and enjoyed them all. The red clam, in particular, had a delicious texture on the top part. Since it was a weekday, it was relatively quiet, allowing me to shop and eat slowly. Thank you for the meal.
