・【Hidden gem Wagyu restaurant serving exquisite Oita Wagyu in Kyoto】Kyoto, Omiya, Takatsuji-dori Wagyu restaurant bungo
A while back, I went to Kyoto with my friends for dinner. My friend recommended this restaurant, made a reservation, and we visited it. We had some shaved ice at Shijo Kawaramachi, visited a cat cafe (although I didn't post about it), and walked to Omiya for some sightseeing. We found a renovated machiya-style hotel or inn called Nazuna, and inside, there was a restaurant that specializes in Oita Wagyu beef. The trademark of the restaurant is the cow's nose pattern (similar to a human fingerprint). The interior of the restaurant feels like a hidden gem, very exciting, with a mix of traditional and modern Japanese aesthetics. We were guided to a private room-like table where they grilled and served the food right in front of us, ensuring we got to enjoy the meat at its best.
We opted for the New Wagyu Course priced at ¥13,000, which consisted of 11 dishes featuring Oita Wagyu beef. The course included:
1. Marbled beef sashimi (sankaku bara) seasoned with salt, wasabi, and grated yuzu, served with white miso soy sauce and bonito broth.
2. Lean beef sashimi (maru) seasoned with ginger and soy sauce koji.
3. Tail soup with thinly sliced daikon acting as a lid, containing moroheiya paste, Kyoto-style tofu skin, and tail meat, with a change in flavor and aroma from Japanese pepper midway.
4. Seared tripe with a mix of chewy and tender textures, served with salt, lemon, and sesame oil, accompanied by Kyoto spring chrysanthemum and wasabi greens.
5. Yukhoe (forgot the part) with shaved truffle for a delightful aroma, marinated with pink peppercorn, and served with homemade semi-dried grapes.
6. Wagyu beef shabu-shabu (classitarose) to be enjoyed with a soup made from beef bones and jawbone broth, along with spinach, snow peas, and carrots, with honey plum hidden beneath the meat.
7. Sukiyaki (haneshita) - a love for haneshita in sukiyaki, best enjoyed with raw egg, Kyoto negi leeks, and happiness.
8. Sukiyaki rice bowl (haneshita) - a continuation of sukiyaki, with seared haneshita served on freshly cooked rice in an earthen pot, drizzled with sukiyaki egg sauce.
9. Miso-grilled beef (maru) with a slightly thicker cut than haneshita, offering a perfect balance in miso flavor.
10. Meat ochazuke (sirloin) - an amazing sirloin experience that speaks for itself.
11. The final dish was a dessert of melon and mugwort honey milk pudding, with a subtle taste reminiscent of sweet bean paste, possibly from the mugwort and black honey. It was simply delicious!
For the quality of the meat, the hospitality, and the overall experience, we were completely satisfied with the price we paid. The glass of wine, both red and white, was priced at ¥1,100 each.
