The main body of the sweetfish-shaped confection is made of castella cake with a chewy texture of mochi inside. It is light and not too sweet, without any filling. It is simple but satisfying to eat, even just one fish. I have tried sweetfish confections from other traditional Japanese sweet shops, but I found this one to be larger in size. It is only available seasonally.

From last year's trip to Kyoto. I wanted to buy some sweets as souvenirs since I was in Kyoto, but I didn't have much time before the Shinkansen departure. I rushed into a souvenir shop near Isetan to look around. Oh, I found a shelf of my favorite Sasaya Iori. I checked the expiration date of the matcha cake, and it lasts for over a month. I'll go with this. When I got home, I tried it. The cake is individually wrapped. Mmm, the taste of matcha is rich. And it's high-quality matcha. The cake is moist as well. Sasaya Iori never disappoints, everything I try is delicious.

There are many souvenir shops at Kyoto Station. This day, I visited Omiyage Koji from 8:30 am. I was tempted by many items, but after careful consideration, I decided to purchase the Taketori Monogatari (¥2916) from Jouvancel. I was originally planning to buy it in the evening, but I was told there might not be any left by then, so I decided to buy it on the spot. The Taketori Monogatari is wrapped in bamboo skin, giving off a lovely scent of chestnuts and beans when opened. The large grains provide a satisfying texture, and the flavor of the candied chestnuts and beans is rich. The pound cake has a slightly dense texture, made with chestnut paste, which pairs well with rum. The combination of Japanese and Western flavors is exquisite. If I stayed in Kyoto longer, I might end up gaining weight from all the delicious food. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

291st sweets ♡ Enjoyed my trip to Kyoto (*´︶`*)♡︎ Before getting on the train, I realized I had forgotten another souvenir, so I bought it here. There were various souvenirs available, which was convenient being right in front of the station (๑'ᴗ'๑)♡
- Pudding cakes, 35 pieces, 1,080 yen
Small bite-sized pieces (●︎´∀︎`●︎) with a hint of bittersweet caramel fragrance. It was delicious ♡ Found a good option with 35 pieces, perfect for a larger group (◍•ᴗ•◍)

JR Kyoto Station Central Exit has opened on the first floor. Many Kyoto souvenirs are being sold here. I purchased the "Otabe" which is a popular type of fresh Yatsuhashi. The set includes Otabe's matcha flavor and cinnamon flavor. The red bean paste is delicious.

I received a gift of Gionzaka. Gionzaka is a Western-style Japanese confectionery produced and sold by Kyoto Fushimi confectioner "Wako". It is a cute bite-sized cake with a moist and mellow yellow bean paste wrapped in a milk-flavored dough and baked to suit the delicate taste of Maiko in Kyoto. While Yatsuhashi is overwhelmingly famous as a Kyoto souvenir, Gionzaka is the third most popular Western-style Japanese confectionery made by a long-established confectionery shop. Its compact size and affordable price also contribute to its popularity. Since it was a gift, the price is not considered, but the taste is highly rated.
