When I visited Kyoto, I stopped by this place. It was quite crowded, probably because of its good location. After walking a fair distance in the heat, I felt thirsty and spotted this place, so I decided to go in. I was seated at a table for four that was available. I didn't want coffee, so I ordered a melon soda, which looked really nice. It had been a while since I had melon soda, and I really enjoyed it because it was sweet and delicious. Even after I sat down, there was a constant flow of customers coming in and out, and when I saw people waiting for a table, I decided to leave. Since I might pass by this place again when I visit Kyoto, I feel like I would use it again. Thank you for the meal.

Cream soda for 650 yen at a café in Kyoto. Simple soda that tastes delicious with cream on top. Anmitsu for 850 yen, which seems like a reliable choice in this location. The red bean paste has delicious grains, and the peach and green colors of the agar jelly are beautiful. The fruits are cut in large pieces. I enjoyed a luxurious moment sitting by the window, bathed in the early morning light. The menu offers tempting items such as cakes for 600 yen, including apple tart, cheese terrine, matcha roll cake, chocolate cake, and coffee jelly. All simple yet with a good atmosphere. There are also special drinks like mixed berry tea soda and California tea. The acrylic stand menu on the table is also elaborate.

This is a long-established coffee shop located at the entrance of Hanami Koji. I ordered the value game set and chose the cheesecake. It was a refreshing rare cheese type and delicious! What's more, the coffee has a rich and delicious aroma. Sometimes it's nice to visit a traditional coffee shop!

About a 4-5 minute walk from Keihan Gion Shijo Station, there is a coffee shop called Noren located on the approach to Yasaka Shrine (Hanamikoji). It has been in business since the early Showa era and has been operating for many years through the Heisei and Reiwa eras, making it a valuable establishment. On October 5th, after visiting Fushimi Inari Shrine, Yasui Konpira-gu Shrine, and Yasaka Shrine, I was feeling quite tired by 2:30 pm. The exterior of the shop offers a good view of the window seats, and on this day, the number of customers was relatively low. The display exudes a nostalgic Showa atmosphere. I noticed a menu item called "Cafe Francais" and became curious about what it could be. I decided to take a break here. The staff kindly led me to the window seat I had seen earlier. Noren is a popular spot for visitors to the Yoshimoto Gion Kagetsu theater, with discounts available for theatergoers and even some Yoshimoto comedians using the shop during breaks. There were people having business meetings and others relaxing while reading magazines, creating a relaxed atmosphere. I received the menu and saw the Cafe Francais (¥680) listed on a separate sheet. I asked the staff about it, and they explained that it is a cafe au lait with coffee jelly inside, topped with whipped cream, and can be enjoyed with honey. I decided to order it. It arrived in about 3-4 minutes! I tried it as is first, and it was a mildly sweet milk coffee. Then I tried the coffee jelly, which had a refreshing taste and a jelly-like texture. Adding the honey and mixing it in complemented the flavors well. Finally, I added the whipped cream, which was not too sweet and blended nicely. The stained glass windows added to the nostalgic atmosphere. The walls were decorated with festival uchiwa fans, creating a stylish ambiance. Although I only stayed for about 30 minutes due to my next destination in Osaka, I had a great time at Noren. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

I visited Router Plaza in the morning after using the sauna, feeling like having a light breakfast. The place has an old-fashioned coffee shop atmosphere. I ordered a sandwich and it was quite a special one.

I have some time before my meal reservation, so I split up with my companions to do our own thing. I finished my errands and now I'm taking a short break. I ordered an iced coffee. The location is perfect, right at the corner of Hanami Koji in Shijo, Kyoto. Today is the eve of a festival, so it's very crowded outside, but this cafe is bustling with local high school girls, tourists in unfamiliar yukatas, and men who seem to have taken a break from festival preparations. The taste is just average as it's a regular city cafe, but I really like the atmosphere here.

The C set for breakfast costs 850 yen, which honestly doesn't feel like a typical morning meal, but it's satisfying with plenty of bacon and scrambled eggs. It's quite filling, almost like a hotel breakfast. The bacon is a bit salty on its own, but when paired with the generous amount of ketchup, it's no problem. The fluffy scrambled eggs and bacon are delicious. The toast is on the thinner side for a cafe in Kansai, maybe about 5 slices thick? It's generously spread with butter, which tends to drip a bit when you hold it. Thank you for the meal.

After finishing sightseeing, I took a break. The place is located about 5 minutes from Keihan Gion Shijo Station. It's along Hanamikoji Street and had a decent amount of customers. I ordered a Coke Float (600 yen). The interior had blues playing, with stained glass and totem poles creating a Showa era coffee shop atmosphere. Gion has a nice atmosphere, but this place also has a charming vibe. Enjoyed my Coke Float leisurely and left the shop. Thank you for the meal.

■Visit Date: October 10, 2020■Received Item: Morning Set A■MEMOVisited on October 10, 2020. Due to the aftermath of a mismatched typhoon, it was raining in the morning as my wife and I walked to the shop. Unaware of the change in business hours to 10:00 due to the pandemic, we ended up visiting this café in front of us for a coffee break. It has a retro atmosphere reminiscent of the Showa era. Despite having breakfast at home, we both ended up choosing the Morning Set. My wife opted for a blend coffee only. The sight of the butter generously melting on the toast was truly impressive. The toast was delicious. My wife, after taking a bite, also praised it, making us both happy early in the morning. The coffee was also delicious. We spent a relaxing 30 minutes enjoying the morning. Afterward, we visited Kagi Zenrakurou located across the street.■Blog Post: https://ay-style.net/?p=53843

A cafe located at the corner of Hanami Koji. It's always crowded, but in the morning it's a comfortable environment to enjoy breakfast. Have a coffee and something to eat for breakfast. In the morning, geisha often pass by, perhaps on their way to practice. It's a great spot!

I visited a modern art museum to enjoy the exhibition of Lu Shan Ren and took a break at a nearby cafe. The place was filled with Asian people outside, but inside the cafe, there were only Westerners. I looked at the menu and ordered an "Iced Tea" with lemon. Before I could even enjoy the background music, the iced tea with lemon arrived. It was a refreshing iced tea with a slice of lemon floating on top. I left the cafe impressed by the efficient service.

After a lovely meal at Mori Waki, we came here for some drinks. When we entered, there was a strong smell of cigarettes, which is apparently typical of retro cafes. The place was bustling with local men. We ordered two blends of coffee and an iced tea. The coffee had a nice aroma, and the iced tea was refreshing and easy to drink. Overall, we enjoyed a leisurely tea time and some chit-chat after our meal. The relaxed atmosphere was more appealing than the trendy decor.

This is a cafe located at the southwest corner of the intersection of Shijo Street and Hanami Koji Street. It has a retro Showa vibe and has been around for a long time. I can't remember the last time I came here... it feels like it's always been here. (laughs) It's a smoking-friendly place, so it may not be suitable for those who don't like cigarette smoke or smell. It had been a while since I last visited, and I didn't see the master with the deep voice. There were two women running the place this time, so maybe there has been a change in ownership. Thank you for the meal.

"NOEN" is a coffee shop near Gion-Shijo Station. It is located at the corner of Shijo Street and Hanamikoji Street, and has a traditional atmosphere. They serve coffee and banana juice. It's a perfect place for a quick break before watching Kabuki at the Minami-za Theater.
