I finally visited a restaurant that I was interested in on Instagram. The seating is limited to 2 hours. The pricing here is reasonable, so I plan to visit again. Both the dishes and the kushikatsu were delicious! Ordering is done through QR codes, which is trendy. A smartphone is required. The staff were friendly and had a good vibe. I paid with PayPay.

I went to a creative tempura skewers restaurant called "Okuno Hidari" located about a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Station! You can enjoy a variety of skewers, and they serve them all at once in a luxurious presentation. Each skewer was delicious, and I couldn't help but eat a lot haha. The restaurant was full of people with reservations, so I recommend making a reservation before going. I ended up spending around 4000 yen eating and drinking alone, so I think it's a good value. I couldn't find any open shops near Kyoto Station before midnight, but as I was walking, I saw a small kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers) restaurant sign in the back alley. There weren't as many shops open near Kyoto Station as I thought, and most non-chain restaurants had already closed for the night, so finding this place was a great help as I was looking for a second venue. Today, the restaurant was serving kushikatsu, so I ordered a mixed plate of deep-fried skewers. The presentation was unique, and the flavors were enjoyable both visually and on the palate. They also had a variety of appetizers and great options for a late-night snack or drinks, making it a perfect spot for a second or third round.

Last night, I went to "Kyoto Kushikatsu and Nikomi Okunohidari" for lunch for the second time. Since I had a late lunch and was already quite full, I focused more on drinking. The whole fruit sour is recommended. I happened to pass by this new-looking and stylish shop. The staff seemed new and not yet familiar with everything. It's convenient that they stay open relatively late compared to other shops around Kyoto Station that close early. Thank you for the meal!

The restaurant is located deep inside an alley on the left side, just as its name suggests. It can be quite hard to find for first-timers. The atmosphere inside is mostly young women taking lots of photos. The main dish is kushikatsu, but it's not your typical sauce - they use truffle salt or pickled tar-tar with a trendy twist. Other dishes are also delicious, but it might feel a bit awkward for older gentlemen... Not many people are drinking beer, instead, they are enjoying whole fruit sours with fruits on top of the glass. It's a slightly uncomfortable place for older men. Thank you for the meal.

Visited on December 29, 2022 (Thursday) around 9:30 PM with 4 people. Although the restaurant seemed too stylish for a man in his 50s, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the interior. The freshly fried skewers had a fluffy yet crispy texture, and I could tell they used high-quality oil. The presentation was also Instagram-worthy, as shown in the photos. Overall, it was a delightful experience and I would love to visit this place again in the future.

In a traditional Kyoto townhouse, there is a nice little kushikatsu restaurant called Okunohidari. They offer a variety of reasonably priced kushikatsu that will make you indecisive on what to order. If you can't decide, just get both! The counter seats allow you to see what other customers are ordering, making you want to try everything. They even serve a boat-shaped platter filled with kushikatsu, which looks impressive. The beef roast kushikatsu has a unique and addictive deliciousness.

The name of the restaurant is small and easy to miss, located deep in an alley on the left side. As you approach, you can see a bright and cute shop with the specialty simmering dishes bubbling away at the counter. First, I tried the "Whole Fruit Sour" for 650 yen, which was made with oranges and pink grapefruits, and it was filled with lots of fruits! The "Kyoto Oboro Tofu" for 399 yen was incredibly soft and creamy with a rich soy milk flavor. The "Soft-boiled Egg Miso Potato Salad" for 500 yen was a delightful potato salad topped with a whole egg, truly a feast for the eyes and taste buds. The "Skewers" included the "Chicken Thigh Wasabi" for 180 yen, which was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and had a spicy kick from the wasabi. The "Oyster Skewer" for 330 yen with tartar sauce was delicious, and the oyster juice burst with flavor. The "Beef Roast Toro Taku Skewer" for 390 yen was a genius combination of crunchy takuan and juicy meat. The simmered dishes included the "Tripe Simmered Skewer" for 120 yen and the "Red Konjac" for 150 yen, both in a sweet and savory miso sauce that was rich but not overwhelming. The "Deep-fried Octopus" for 599 yen was highly recommended by my friend. We also had seconds of the "Simmered Red Konjac" and the "Chicken Thigh Wasabi Skewer." For dessert, we enjoyed the "Forbidden Shirasu Butter Don" for 499 yen, which had a gentle and balanced buttery flavor with a hint of shiso. The "Ice Cream Daifuku Monaka" for 200 yen was cute and delicious, with crispy monaka, cold ice cream, and warm fried dough, all drizzled with a sweet black syrup. The menu was fun and reasonably priced, and the restaurant was surprisingly spacious with a second floor. It's conveniently located near Kyoto Station.

A new restaurant from a popular creative skewer group that has five locations in Kyoto, such as "Dōzo!" and "Aiyō!", has opened in front of Kyoto Station. As the name suggests, it is a hidden alleyway izakaya where you can enjoy skewers and simmered dishes. At the entrance, a cute mascot holding a skewer welcomes you. The menu includes their famous skewers, simmered dishes, and a variety of other dishes. Here are some of the items we ordered: - Assorted skewers set of 10 (1699 yen): A boat-shaped platter filled with creative skewers. Each skewer has a unique flavor and the crispy coating is delicious. - Grilled beef loin skewer with melted cheese (390 yen): The rich flavor of the beef loin combined with the melted cheese and pickled radish is a delightful combination. - Simmered tripe skewer (120 yen): A flavorful and chewy skewer with a punchy seasoning. - Signature dry tantan noodles (499 yen for half portion): The dry tantan noodles from their affiliated restaurant "Aiyō!" are also available here. I am looking forward to enjoying handcrafted creative kushikatsu and simmered dishes at this alleyway bar. ★Kyoto Oboro Tofu - A good appetizer before eating kushikatsu ★Motsu simmered kushikatsu - Hormone skewers simmered for over 24 hours in a red miso base ★Half-cooked egg tempura with cheese sauce - Looks good. I only took a picture and didn't eat it (lol) ★Oyster kushikatsu with shiso tartar sauce - Refreshing ★Half-cooked egg miso potato salad - Red miso and quail egg on top. Looks good and tastes delicious. ★Beef roast skewer kushikatsu - The beef cutlet is tender and delicious. ★Assorted kushikatsu set of 10 - Includes eggplant with raw ham, eringi mushroom with butter, chicken tenderloin with mentaiko, onion with sweet potato, shrimp with shiso tartar sauce, and saury with sausage. It is recommended to order this and choose your favorites. ★Oil residue udon - It's been a while since I had residue udon. The noodles are made of whole wheat flour maybe? It was delicious. ★Forbidden Shirasu butter rice bowl - I want to try this at home. ★Squid truffle - Soft but firm squid with a good truffle flavor. ★Shrimp with shiso tartar sauce - The sauce enhances the flavor and tastes delicious. ★Beef cutlet - Very tender and delicious. ★Addictive cucumber - Cucumber that you can't stop eating. ★Caesar salad with raw ham and half-cooked egg - Asparagus wrapped in pork with mayonnaise - Juicy asparagus wrapped in pork and coated with batter, trapping the umami flavor inside, making it delicious. ★Lotus root - Sticky and delicious. ★Spicy small potatoes - A bit spicy. ★Rice croquette - The rice croquette was delicious. ★Signature soupless tantanmen - A high-level tantanmen. If you don't act fast, you might lose to specialty shops. It's truly impressive. It seems like it's going to be trendy.
