During a business trip to Kyoto, I had a wonderful dessert. It was a sweet that harmonized Japanese and Western flavors. It was in the shape of a cube, with grass mochi, red bean paste, and yuzu mochi on the sides. Inside, there was warabi mochi, and on top, a thin layer of warabi mochi covered in cream cheese. Despite looking moist and rich, the yuzu flavor added a refreshing touch. It was a new and delightful texture. Thank you for the meal.

I already knew that the cakes are super delicious. This time, I found a Jubanseru shop near my accommodation and decided to go there right away. I thought of buying some baked goods here and sending them along with other items. After some thought, I chose a box with two types of Kyoto Sakusaku tea and matcha for my family. For myself, I got the Suifuku. I haven't tried Sakusaku tea before, so I don't know how it tastes, but Suifuku is the best! It's so delicious! And these sweets don't contain any preservatives. They are made with very high-quality ingredients. Jubanseru is truly amazing. I became even more of a fan. The cakes are delicious, the baked goods are delicious, the staff is kind, and it's a wonderful shop. The fact that it's only in Kyoto is also charming. ♡

"The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter - ¥3,240. A pound cake wrapped in bamboo skin, with large chestnuts and black beans. It looks heavy and is packed with plenty of ingredients. The orange peel adds a nice touch, and the crunchy white sesame seeds are a perfect contrast. The texture is moist and very delicious. It can be stored at room temperature, making it a great gift that will be appreciated."

I visited around 12:20 on a regular day. There was one customer before me. ●Sagano Road 432 yen Cheesecake with mochi inside. The yuzu mochi was clearly made with yuzu. The wrapping was lovely. ●Constant Summer 432 yen Refreshing mango flavor with a hint of acidity, it was delicious.

On the 4th day of my trip to Kyoto and Osaka in March 2020, I didn't have time to visit Isetan Kyoto store, so I searched for souvenirs at Kyoto Station before boarding the Shinkansen. One item that caught my eye was "Taketori Monogatari" priced at 2916 yen including tax. When I opened the heavy box, I found what looked like saba sushi wrapped in bamboo skin. Inside the bamboo skin, there were plenty of chestnuts, large sweet chestnuts, and plump black beans. The moist and fluffy dough combined with the ingredients tasted delicious. I was shocked by the high price, so I only bought one, but I regretted not buying two.

First Meal 201911 (No.1538) Established in 1988, this shop's name comes from the French word meaning "maiden"! Currently operating 4 stores in Kyoto, the Gion store has the highest number of reviews and ratings, but this is the first store so I decided to feature it here ~♫ Tale of the Bamboo Cutter 2916 yen. A pound cake that symbolizes bamboo, using domestically produced chestnuts and black beans wrapped in bamboo skin, blending Japanese and Western flavors. Although it's a bit pricey, the amount of candied chestnuts and black beans is generous. It has an elegant sweetness with a hint of yuzu and a subtle rum flavor, making it a delicious pound cake. In some of the Kyoto stores, there is also a café, so considering the high quality of this product, using the café might be a good idea as well (^^) / Thank you for the meal.

Every time I go to Kyoto, I always go to the Gion store in search of chocolate fondue, but I always get discouraged by the long lines. However, I found out that the store was selling some of their products at a certain department store event, so I immediately purchased one. I ordered the "Suiichifuku (small)" for 950 yen, which is a matcha kugelhopf with matcha chocolate sauce on top. The sponge cake has red bean paste inside and is covered with matcha chocolate sauce. I thought the sponge cake could have been a bit moister for a better texture. It crumbled easily and was a bit difficult to eat, but the matcha chocolate sauce helped to make it easier to enjoy the flavor. Next time I visit Kyoto, I hope to try the coveted matcha chocolate fondue at the Gion store. Thank you for the meal.

Once upon a time, about 30 years ago, I used to love the hospitality of the cute light pink plum-patterned Japanese paper that was attached to each piece of confectionery from the Western confectionery shop Jouvancel. I can't remember the name, but it was vividly etched in my mind. This time, what caught my attention was the cakes and the bustling crowds at the Western confectionery shops in Kyoto during Christmas! This particular shop is right in the heart of Kyoto, easily walkable from the subway station at Oike. It faces a street on the north side, I remember it being on the west side of Takakura Street. It must be the first store in Kyoto city. They later opened a branch in the basement of Kyoto Takashimaya. There is also a lovely tea house in Gion Shimbashi, west of Kodai-ji Temple, famous for its matcha chocolate fondue. This shop specializes in take-out confectionery gifts, with a pound cake richly made with Tanba Dainagon red beans and chestnuts, wrapped in a beautiful emerald green wrapping paper and a lovely green paper bag, enhancing the value of the product. The three types of "damande" include vanilla, matcha, and chocolate. Each one has a yellow, green, or brown individual packaging, which is delightful. I prefer vanilla. However, it's time for the vanilla packaging to change to a pale cherry blossom color. After all, both men and women love pure white. What color do you prefer? Ask your husband or partner. Most people love pure white. Aya Kyojyo Komaro would probably call it "hyakume-iro" in his sharp-tongued talk. It takes 70-80 years to cultivate grandparents, so let's go to Kyoto. Let's go to Kyoto in the winter. I hope those who look good in traditional Japanese kimono will come. You're still beautiful even as a grandmother.

I stopped by Juvasel, a Kyoto confectionery shop located on the way back to the hotel from Tanaka Sandwich Shop. They are known for their cakes and sweets, but this time I opted for chocolates as I had plans to buy sweets from various shops and wanted something that would last longer. I chose a matcha chocolate in bite-sized pieces, wrapped like candies, with a base of white chocolate mixed with matcha for a sweet and mild flavor. Another option was a thick chocolate with macadamia nuts and puffs that you can break apart while eating. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to break apart and how light it tasted. It would definitely be appreciated by nut lovers. They also had reasonably priced baked goods with matcha chocolate on a light pastry, perfect for souvenirs for colleagues. Overall, it was a convenient and practical selection. Reservations availability - revisit frequency: ★★★☆☆ (The store inside the department store is more convenient than the one in the Oike area). Thank you for the meal!

At the sweets cafe in Gion, the "Matcha Fondue" is very popular among young women. This Gion store is the first store of "Juvansel". I purchased the "Mont Blanc" and the "Matcha Pudding" this time. I forgot the individual prices, but together they cost 918 yen including tax. - "Mont Blanc": This "Mont Blanc" was quite delicious. I liked that it wasn't too sweet. At my age, I struggle to finish a cake that is too sweet. In that sense, I was able to enjoy this "Mont Blanc" until the end. A rating of 3.3 may not seem very high, but for me, it's a pretty good rating in the sweets department. Please consider this rating as my evaluation of the "Mont Blanc". - "Matcha Pudding": So, how about the "Matcha Pudding"? It was delicious, of course. However, the "Pudding" part was stronger than the "Matcha". I prefer when the "Matcha" flavor is stronger, that's just my preference based on my generation. But the topping of red beans was incredibly delicious.

The popular souvenir "Taketori Monogatari" costs 2,700 yen. It is a pound cake with soft and plenty of chestnuts, black beans, Western liquor, yuzu, white sesame, butter, and other fragrances, creating a complex and rich flavor with a wonderful fusion of Japanese and Western elements. It may seem expensive, but considering the taste and quantity, it's hard to find a similar pound cake elsewhere. Every time I visit Kyoto, I buy it and I'm not tired of it yet. This time, I also bought "Sagano Michi" for 432 yen, which needs to be eaten within the expiration date. It is wrapped in bamboo leaves, adding a touch of elegance. Inside the pure white rare cheese, there are round shapes in light green and light yellow. The green one is matcha, and the yellow one is yuzu peel, each containing red bean paste and white bean paste. The combination of the texture and taste of rare cheese, yuzu peel, and bean paste allows you to enjoy the perfect collaboration of Japanese and Western flavors. It's a shame that it doesn't last long, so it's not suitable as a souvenir, but the fact that you can only get it in Kyoto adds to its charm.

I received this souvenir from Kyoto (o^^o) I love matcha, so just seeing the package with "matcha" written on it makes me very happy w\(//∇//)\ Similar cookies can be found in many brands, but this one has matcha cream inside the cookie as well. Both the cookie and the cream are matcha flavored, so compared to other similar cookies, I feel like the matcha aroma is stronger in this one! The size of the cookie is just right too ♡

My father bought this cake on his business trip and brought it home. It's a familiar cake in our house. The combination of light chestnut cream and moist cookie dough is excellent, not too heavy. If you come to Kyoto, be sure to try it.

I fell in love with the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter at a market event and bought a luxurious pound cake with a hint of Western liquor. It was delicious with chestnuts and black beans scattered throughout, making it very indulgent!

A cake shop facing Oike Street. Despite being Western sweets, the names are like Japanese sweets, such as "Finanche Banira." Their cake based on "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter" is famous. I tried some samples and they were delicious, so I bought some as souvenirs. The Matcha Pudding was not too sweet and had a rich flavor, very delicious. I wanted to try the "Sagano Road" cake, but it was sold out.

I received this as a gift and was so impressed, but I forgot the name of it. It's a rare cheesecake with a mochi ball inside. I don't think you can find it anywhere else.
