The atmosphere of the restaurant was old-fashioned and cozy. I ordered the mountain vegetable soba noodles. The soba noodles were delicious with plenty of mountain vegetables. I was able to enjoy a satisfying meal!

After visiting Joruriji Temple, I stopped by this place. There was a garden where you could take a stroll. They also had souvenirs for sale, and you can use the facilities even without dining. Besides soba, they also had drinks and ice cream. The prices were all very reasonable. I tried the plum soda, which was sweet and refreshing. I bought pickled plums and roasted green tea cookies as souvenirs. I thought it was a fair and honest shop.

After visiting the Joruriji Temple, we had lunch here. - Tororo Soba 1100 yen Soba noodles (with mountain vegetables, mushrooms, seaweed) Tororo (with raw egg) Dipping sauce (with green onions, sesame, wasabi) Leaf wasabi tsukudani (pickled vegetables) side dish - this time it came with simmered bamboo shoots. The generous amount of tororo was explained by the staff to be eaten without adding soy sauce each time they served the dish to the customers. - Sansai Soba 770 yen With mountain vegetables, fried tofu, and leaf wasabi tsukudani also included. All prices are tax included. Both dishes were enjoyed deliciously after visiting the temple in this charming restaurant with an impressive garden.

I enjoyed a bowl of warm tororo soba with plenty of mountain vegetables at a hidden autumn foliage spot in Kyoto, which is considered to be the southernmost point of the city. The cozy atmosphere of the restaurant, reminiscent of a scene from a Japanese folktale, made me feel at ease even though I was dining alone. The friendly service and detailed explanation of the dishes added to the overall pleasant experience. While I wasn't a fan of soba and mountain vegetables when I was younger, I have grown to love them now, so I was delighted by the generous portion of toppings in the dish. I am already thinking about returning during hydrangea season!

I visited Joruriji Temple in autumn, and traveled a long way to see it. In this area with few dining options, this restaurant is a rare find. Despite not having high expectations, I was pleasantly surprised by the charming atmosphere. I ordered warm tororo soba, which was served with separate bowls of soba, tororo, and soup, creating a truly rustic and delightful soba experience. The owner was also very kind and warm. This meal has become a cherished memory of my journey. The autumn leaves in the garden were also magnificent. Grateful, grateful.

I was guided to the "Ashibino Shop" in front of the Sanmon gate of Joruriji Temple, where I enjoyed the "tororo soba" (*´ω`*)♡ The soba noodles included mountain vegetables, mushrooms, and seaweed, topped with grated yam, raw egg, dipping sauce, and garnishes like green onions, sesame, and wasabi. There was also a side dish of simmered vegetables, and the pickled wasabi leaves that caught my eye when I entered the shop. It looked beautiful and had a lovely aroma♬ Next to the restaurant is Joruriji Temple, built in 1047 and modeled after Hojoji Temple founded by the late Fujiwara no Michinaga. The temple features a theme of the Pure Land and the afterlife, with a serene main hall housing nine Buddha statues. It was a wonderful and peaceful space to spend time in (*´ω`*)** After visiting the temple, I found that the Ashibino Shop was a charming and atmospheric place♡〜(*´ω`*) Thank you for another great year♫ Wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

On November 15th (Monday), we visited a hidden Buddha statue in the mountains of Nara to Kyoto! At 13:40, we had lunch at a cozy soba restaurant near Joruriji Temple. The restaurant, called A-Shibino-ten, had a nice atmosphere with a stone-paved path surrounded by autumn leaves. Since it was a weekday, the restaurant was not crowded. I had the Soba Set Meal which came with mountain vegetables, mushrooms, Yamato-style wheat gluten, fried tofu, and shrimp tempura. It was full of ingredients and delicious! The set also included seasoned rice with yukari, sesame tofu, and wasabi leaf pickles. My wife had the Tororo Soba, which was served with mountain vegetables, mushrooms, and seaweed. This dish was served cold, and we enjoyed a bit of tororo (grated yam) along with it, as well as tororo rice. The restaurant had autographed color papers from famous people who had visited, such as news anchor Koda, the cast of "Ohayo Asahi," and Udo Suzuki from the comedy duo "Cain." Thank you for the delicious meal!

I visited this restaurant in September last year and wanted to write a memo about it. The restaurant is located in front of Joruriji Temple and has a great atmosphere with its traditional appearance and interior. Even though the ambiance is elegant, you can eat three bowls of rice here! The udon set meal and grated yam set meal were delicious, especially when enjoyed in such a charming setting. The staff even brought out a half portion of ice cream for my child, showing their thoughtful hospitality.

A Shinobi, a mountain vegetable restaurant in Kizugawa City, Kyoto. It is located along a narrow path on the approach to Joruriji Temple. Lately, I have taken up the hobby of collecting temple stamps by bicycle, so I stopped by for lunch after visiting the temple. I ordered the tororo soba set, which includes tororo (grated yam), soba with mountain vegetables, leaf wasabi tsukudani, and simmered taro. The amount of tororo was huge! And it had a nice sticky texture. The mountain vegetable stew was not too strong in flavor, complementing the taste of the soba well. The soba itself was delicious! Both the tororo and the mountain vegetable stew had their own unique flavors without overpowering each other. The overall balance of flavors was excellent. It was delicious, thank you for the meal.

On Sunday, my son and I did a mystery solving activity in Kizugawa City, but it took longer than expected so we stopped for lunch halfway through. We found a restaurant recommendation in the sightseeing guide that came with the mystery kit, so we had lunch at Ashibino restaurant in front of Joruriji Temple. It's quite deep in the mountains, but there were a few eateries gathered around Joruriji Temple. The restaurant had a quaint building that blended well with the surrounding atmosphere, but it didn't look like it belonged in the Reiwa era. The menu mainly featured dishes like grated yam and mountain vegetable set meals, with options for soba and udon as well, but the variety wasn't that extensive. I ordered the soba set meal (1210 yen) and my son got the mountain vegetable udon (770 yen). The prices were a bit on the higher side, perhaps due to it being a tourist spot. We shared a large table, but there was an acrylic board separating us from the neighboring table for COVID-19 precautions. The soba set meal came with soba noodles topped with mountain vegetables, mushrooms, wheat gluten, fried tofu, and shrimp tempura, offering quite a hearty portion. It also included seasoned rice with toppings, sesame tofu, and wasabi-flavored pickles as part of the set, making it a better deal than ordering items individually. The mountain vegetable udon my son ordered had plenty of mountain vegetables, fried tofu, and wheat gluten in it. Eating the soba in the serene countryside atmosphere was quite delightful.

I visited this charming restaurant on my way back from Joruriji Temple. I was told to sit wherever I liked, so I chose a table in the middle. It was a hot and sunny day, so I ordered cold tororo soba for 1080 yen and a bottle of beer for 540 yen. I started with the beer, and soon a plate of soba topped with mountain vegetables and mushrooms arrived. It came with grated yam and condiments, and I was told to eat it however I liked, so I poured everything on top. "Delicious!!" I didn't expect much from a restaurant on the approach to a temple, but it was quite tasty. The simmered konjac and the pickled wasabi leaves in small dishes were also delicious. After leaving the restaurant, I strolled along the stone buddha path to Iwafuneji Temple. It was a quiet and lovely time spent in a charming atmosphere. Thank you for the meal. I definitely want to visit again when I come back to Joruriji Temple.

I found a temple in Kyoto towards Nara where there were a lot of cats for some reason, like a paradise for cats, and a hidden gem-like shop where you can forget about the hustle and bustle of the city and time to relax with tea. I visited Iwafuneji and Joruriji from Kamo Station in Kizugawa City. Walking through the mountains from Iwafuneji to Joruriji was a refreshing change of pace and felt like a forest bath. Especially at Joruriji, the scenery was beautiful and the place had a historical atmosphere with many cute cats that were very soothing. I had a fun time taking lots of cat photos (laughs). The amazake had a texture with solid grains that could be clearly felt. Iwafuneji is famous for its hydrangeas in June, and Joruriji is known for its Japanese Andromeda blooming in early March, so I would like to visit again during those seasons.

A dining place on the approach to Jōruri-ji Temple. Ordered the grated yam set meal. Ate while looking out at the garden from the window. Well, it wasn't particularly delicious.

I visited Joruriji Temple in Kizugawa, Kyoto Prefecture. It is located near the border with Nara and there is a bus from Nara Station, but the address is in Kyoto Prefecture. The restaurant is located on the left side as you walk towards Joruriji Temple from the parking lot (¥300). They seem to open around 10 am, and I visited around 10:30 am. The menu is limited, with a summer menu available. I had the Tororo Soba and Sansai Soba, with Tororo soup served separately. They provide instructions on how to eat it: 1) Dip the soba in the Tororo soup, 2) Dip the soba in the Tororo soup with sauce, and 3) Pour the Tororo soup and sauce over the soba. I chose the third option and it was delicious! The soba had a good texture and the Tororo soup had a great flavor. My husband had the Tororo set meal, and the staff advised to add soy sauce to the Tororo. Both meals came with a small side dish, which included pickled chili peppers and a dish called "Seishin Gure" with what seemed like beef but was actually fried wheat gluten. The Tororo Soba came with pickled wasabi stems, which I love. The restaurant has a nostalgic atmosphere and is very calming. Definitely worth a visit when you're at Joruriji Temple!笑
