The shop named Yuukando is open from 9 am. When I arrived after 9 am, they didn't have any roll cakes left, which was disappointing. I chose some items from the display, and they wrapped them up for me. The expiration date for the traditional Japanese sweets is 7 days, so they can be a good souvenir. Shizuku is a sweet with kanten jelly wrapped in two layers of mochi, while Kamuro is a sweet with umeshu or matcha kanten jelly inside. There were more Shizuku than Kamuro, but the chestnut manju that the shop is known for, enjoyed by Admiral Togo Heihachiro, also looked delicious. It's important to consider the balance when making a purchase. They also include a small piece of paper with information about the sweets inside the box, which would be helpful for giving them as gifts.

I arrived at Matsuo-ji Temple by taking the JR Maizuru Line. Matsuo-ji Temple left me with the impression of being a quiet temple with a long history. As for the "pilgrimage sweets" of Matsuo-ji Temple, I couldn't find them near the temple, so I purchased them near Higashi-Maizuru Station. - Isamunukidou: This is a long-established Japanese confectionery store in Maizuru, founded in 1857. The staff member was friendly and welcoming. In addition to the chestnut steamed bun I was looking for, I also bought their most popular confectionery called "Shizuku." I enjoyed them at home. Chestnut Steamed Bun: This renowned confectionery was said to be favored by Tojo Heihachiro. It has a thick skin with sweet bean paste and chestnut inside, offering a mildly sweet taste. Shizuku: This luxurious packaged Japanese confectionery has a fluffy appearance. It consists of small red beans packed in sweet white mochi. It also has a subtle sweetness. I enjoyed the specialty sweets of this long-standing confectionery store in Maizuru.

An Edo-era shop! The Haniwa Mochi with large red bean paste has a great texture. It's not too sweet and matches well with modern tastes. Thank you for the meal!

I currently live in Yawata City, Kyoto Prefecture, but my hometown is in Maizuru. I have always considered Yuukando as the best traditional Japanese sweets shop in Maizuru since I was a child. I highly recommend their "Shizuku" and "Yamaji," as well as their seasonal "Roll Cake" that is only available in cold weather (as it is prone to damage in hot weather). Both my parents and I have a sweet tooth, so whenever we visit Kyoto Station, we buy some traditional Japanese sweets to take home. However, they always disappear quickly, leaving us craving more. As a result, visiting Yuukando has become a routine for us whenever we go back to my hometown.

On the way back from Restaurant Takeuchi, I came across this store. It has been in operation since the fourth year of Ansei. Speaking of Ansei, it was a time of turmoil during the end of the Edo period. There was the Ansei Purge during that time. However, as a traditional Japanese confectionery shop, this store may be relatively new in terms of Kyoto's historical perspective. Despite being in the ancient city of Kyoto, the culture and atmosphere here feel quite different. It almost feels more like Osaka rather than Kyoto. Once inside the store, I was greeted by the proprietress, who looked remarkably like Emi Numa. She talked a lot and her lively personality quickly overshadowed any traditional Kyoto vibes. I heard that even Kyoto's drag queens have had similar conversations with her. It made me wonder if I'm similar to Kyoto's drag queens. In my mind, I pondered the shared culture of authenticity found here, reminiscent of Osaka. Regardless of personal preferences, the proprietress was undeniably entertaining. I decided to purchase a few sweets to take home, with the highlight being the "Shizuku" dessert, which is their specialty. When I tried it at home, I found the Shizuku to be the most delicious. It consists of a soft white mochi, filled with the flavor of Tanba Dainagon red beans, and wrapped in a delicate layer of agar jelly. It had a beautifully light and refreshing taste, reminiscent of a starry night under the moon. The red bean jelly was perfectly balanced in sweetness. It was truly delicious, akin to the beauty of a moonlit flower. The contrast between the refined customer service and the exquisite taste of the sweets brought a smile to my face, creating a delightful moment in my home.

I received this as a souvenir and decided to try it. I usually don't like daifuku or traditional Japanese sweets at all, so I had zero expectations. But oh my goodness!!! What is this?! The softness of the mochi when you put it in your mouth is indescribable. The powder coating is just right, not too much, and the sweet bean paste inside is perfectly sweet. As for the location, since it was a souvenir, I can't really comment on that. But as someone living in Osaka, I don't think I would go all the way there just for this haha. Next time, if I happen to pass by this area, I'll use this as a planned opportunity lol.

I stopped by this shop to buy souvenirs when I was on a business trip. It has a very traditional feel, with lots of delicious Japanese sweets on display. I bought the "Shizuku" and it was exquisite. The refined taste when you put it in your mouth is irresistible. The sweetness is just right, not too overpowering. It was well received as a gift by those I gave it to. I don't often visit this area, but if I have the chance, I would definitely like to buy it again. Next time, I would like to try other sweets as well. The shop is located right by a big road, so it's easy to find.

I had a snack of sweets. It's from a sweets shop called "Shizuku" in Higashi-Maizuru. It's a Japanese confectionery with soft mochi wrapped in sweet bean paste. The softness of the mochi and the crushed azuki beans give it a nice texture. The sweetness of the bean paste is elegant and not too overpowering, making it a delicious treat. It paired well with strong tea. It was a simple yet delicious snack with a good balance of textures, sweetness, and a hint of saltiness.
