A traditional cake shop near Subway Sanjo Keihan Station run by an elderly couple. Some cakes in the showcase may be sold out. This area has few cake shops, so it may be convenient for locals. Tried the Shanti Chocolat (523 yen) - chocolate cream, homemade chocolate, homemade ganache. Not flashy, but generous in size. It was finished with a gentle cream.

The baked donuts have a simple taste. The Baumkuchen is subtly delicious!

I felt like having cake at the hotel, so I searched and ended up here. I arrived after 3 pm, and there were only a few cakes left in the showcase, all of which looked delicious and made it hard for me to choose. The lady at the counter was very kind, and we ended up having a nice chat. I chose the chocolate cake and enjoyed it at the hotel. The whipped cream was not too sweet, and I liked the soft chocolate cream used in the cake. There were other items that caught my eye, so I have high expectations and gave it a 3.0 rating.

This is a cake shop located right next to the hotel where I stayed this time. In addition to cakes, they also had baked goods and packaged jellies, perhaps seasonal. The atmosphere of the shop and the cakes and baked goods in the showcase somehow reminded me of a cake shop in my hometown that I used to visit. This time, I tried three types of baked goods (financier, madeleine, matcha pound cake) and two types of jellies (grapefruit, grape). The baked goods tasted just like they looked, with a nostalgic flavor. The matcha pound cake was a bit dry, which was disappointing. I chilled the jellies in the fridge before eating them. They were a bit too sweet, but the fruit inside made them refreshing and suitable for the current season. It seems that if you make a reservation, they can make a birthday cake that children would enjoy. Difficulty of reservation and likelihood of revisiting - Thank you for the meal.

There is a cute cake shop with a colorful exterior near Sanjo Keihan Station. The hand-drawn product descriptions outside the shop attract customers. I was particularly interested in the cherry pie. One day, I finished work early and was able to enter the shop before closing time. Although there were only a few items left, the cherry pie was still available. I bought the cherry pie and a cute raspberry tart. I also bought a Florentine because there were various baked goods available. They were not too sweet but had a rich flavor and a cute appearance. They reminded me of French pastries (in my personal opinion). The prices are high. I was also interested in the roll cake and baked donuts, which were priced at 110 yen. Unfortunately, the baked donuts were sold out when I visited. There is also an eat-in space where you can enjoy coffee. The staff at the counter was an elderly woman who had a lovely smile and provided warm customer service.

This time, I visited the patisserie & cafe "Le Palais Gourmand Sugimoto," located two doors down from the "Hana Hotel." I was looking for a little gift to bring to dinner with my friends from Kyoto, so I stopped by since it was conveniently close to the hotel. The owner-patisserie, who is a master from Lyon, France, offers a variety of traditional classical cakes and modern pastries. I purchased some macarons, which came in five flavors: matcha, lemon, strawberry, praline, blueberry, offering a diverse range of options. The texture was great, and the flavors were delightful. They are healthy as they are not fried and are also reasonably priced. They have seating available, so if you are in the area, why not stop by? The shop is located at the corner of Sanjo Street and Shin-yanagi-bamba Street. I forgot to take a picture of the treats (><).

I have visited this place several times. The atmosphere felt heavy and somewhat disorganized when I walked in after a long time. The space feels too spacious, maybe that's why. There is a cafe, but I don't feel relaxed here. So I ended up being hesitant in choosing a cake. I chose Gâteau aux Fraises (390 yen), Chick Roll (500 yen), and two donuts (115 yen each). When I ate them at home, I felt that the whipped cream was not very sweet and didn't blend well with the sponge. However, the chick roll tasted better the next day as the flavors had melded together. The donuts were average. This is a local cake shop!!

There is a cake shop that has been around for quite some time, located a little east of Kawabata Sanjo. I used to frequent this shop during my student days, often meeting my husband at BOOK ◎FF. We would use it as a cafe, get takeout and bring it back to our dorm in Seigoin or Ichijoji on our shared bicycle... Looking back, it seems like quite a hassle (laughs). With many more cake shops opening up, I had not visited in a while, but recently met up at Sanjo Station and decided to drop by for tea after about 10 years. The cakes in the display case seem to have completely changed from what I remember, such as the Gâteau aux Fraises, a fluffy sponge cake with fine cream and strawberries. It has a gentle sweetness that is comforting. There is also the Tarte au Fromage, a summer limited edition cake with a cheesecake mousse, black cherry compote, and black cherry jelly on the outside. The refreshing and smooth cheesecake mousse is delicious. While it may not have the upscale patisseries or cafes with a perfect atmosphere that Kyoto is known for, this casual shop with a coffee set for 250 yen when purchased with a cake is quite reasonable given its location. I will definitely stop by for a snack when I find myself in the area again.

I was riding around the streets of Kyoto on a rental bike when I got thirsty and saw a shop selling delicious-looking donuts. The sign said the donuts were 110 yen each, but if you ordered a drink with it, you would get a 100 yen discount on the set menu. So basically, you could eat for just 10 yen more. I went inside and ordered a donut set with iced coffee. The donuts were baked, not fried, and tasted like a more solid version of Mister Donut's Old Fashioned donut, with a simple and homemade flavor. The iced coffee was average but refreshing. While I was eating, two groups of dine-in customers and one takeout customer came in. I'm not sure what this shop's specialty is, but I have a feeling their roll cakes might be delicious. They have a promotion for a 100 yen discount on drink sets until the end of this month, so locals should definitely give it a try!

"Apple Chiboust" ♫ A caramel mousse with apples sandwiched between chocolate sponge cake. The top is a Chiboust cream with a sweet and sour apple jelly. In the summer, it changes to pears instead of apples. The Chiboust cream is light and not too sweet, but I wish the sponge cake was thinner and the cream was thicker. The eat-in space has around 10 tables and counter seats. Cake costs 380 yen, tea costs 450 yen, and there is a 50 yen discount for a cake set."

While walking along Sanjo Street, I stumbled upon a cute shop called "Pare Gourmand Sugimoto." It was bustling with customers, so I thought it must be a popular local spot! I tried their Petite Macaron (strawberry) for 250 yen. They also had other flavors like matcha and blueberry. The macarons were not displayed in the case, but the owner's wife brought them out from the back. She quickly rang me up and said goodbye as I left, which made me feel a bit rushed. However, the taste was delicious. I gave the macarons to a friend's child who loves them, and they seemed to really enjoy it.

Sanjo Roll Cake/Le Palais Gourmand Sugimoto 1155 yen
This roll cake is a signature item at a shop on Sanjo Hanami Koji, and you often see it featured in magazines. It is a roll cake wrapped in crepe, making a strong impression. The crepe is the most flavorful part of the cake, thick and eggy. Inside, there is a thin layer of chestnut cream, adding a subtle sweetness that is reminiscent of custard. The cake itself has a fine and smooth texture, with a natural sweetness that is not overpowering. The cream is rich but not too sweet, providing a satisfying eating experience. I noticed that this time there was no crispy crust inside, which was present in my previous experience. The absence of the crispy crust allowed the natural flavors of the cake and cream to shine.

This is a cake shop that has been around for a long time. Recently, there has been an increase in tourists in the area, making it quite lively. Many new shops have opened in the past few years, but this shop remains unchanged. It feels reassuring. I visited this shop for the first time in a long time after visiting the art museum. It was past 3 pm on a holiday, which seemed like a busy time, but it was fine. (They mentioned that they accept reservations, as some customers had made reservations later.) The shop has table seating and counter seating. The chairs are not very comfortable... just a heads up. The interior is a bit dimly lit. It has a cafe-like atmosphere, typical of a cake shop in the neighborhood. The cakes are simple, with the classic combination of whipped cream and sponge cake. They are not too sweet and have a light taste. Also, if you order a cake priced at 250 yen or more along with a drink, you get a 100 yen discount. The cakes range from 300 yen to 400 yen, and drinks are around 400 yen, so even with a set, it's around 700 to 800 yen. This shop offers good value for money in this area. Simple cakes like these are easy to eat for young children and elderly people. There are many popular and fancy cake shops in this area of Kyoto. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend it to tourists or those who enjoy exploring cake shops and cafes. But if you want a quick and easy sweet treat or a place to rest without waiting in line, I think it's a good option. It's also conveniently located near Keihan Sanjo. While chain coffee shops with cakes are nice, using a local cake shop can also be a good experience. I hope this shop continues to thrive.

I received these donuts as a gift, so I won't comment on the atmosphere of the shop. However, the donuts were incredibly delicious!! It was described as a firm type of donut, which made me think it would be hard, but it was actually very moist and soft, with a great texture. The size was just right, easy to eat, and when paired with tea at home, it was incredibly tasty. Many donuts are either too soft and hollow or hard and crumbly, but these were well-made, not too heavy, and definitely worth eating!

After going to Okazaki, I felt like having something sweet and stopped by this shop a few times. The cakes here are very simple and unpretentious. They have a strong egg flavor and a solid sponge texture. Their chiffon cakes, for example, taste just like egg omelettes. It's nice that they can make simple things taste good, but there's nothing that really makes me want to go to this shop specifically. It's just a place to stop by, which is a bit disappointing. I hope they can bring out their own unique charm, even if it's not something fancy.

About 10 years ago, the chocolate cakes at this place were really delicious. The combination of sweetness, bitterness, texture, mousse, ganache, and various forms of chocolate all in one cake created a unified yet diverse taste. There were different types of chocolate cakes with different combinations, and it was at this shop that I first discovered the world of chocolate cakes. They were truly delicious. The Mont Blanc, made with plenty of chestnut paste and liquor, had a cream and chestnut filling that allowed you to taste the chestnut multiple times. It was a really delicious Mont Blanc. The choux cream (cream puff) was also a favorite, with a rich custard cream and a firm choux pastry. However, perhaps due to its location, the cakes at this shop changed after a day when a nearby lady demanded to know why there was no strawberry shortcake. The once amazing chocolate cake, as well as the Mont Blanc and choux cream, now have flavors that I have no desire to eat. It seems that they are now focusing on the Sanjo roll cake, which has received good reviews, but I can't help feeling disappointed that this cake shop has changed so much. I wish they would have raised the prices of the cakes (like Beaucoup) and continued making cakes like they used to. It's truly a disappointing cake shop.
