"Yeah, the taste at this price is really satisfying, right?" That's what one of the acquaintances I dined with said about the dishes at the famous Japanese cuisine chain 'Ganko'. On this particular evening, we visited the branch located in Kyoto Station building with two acquaintances. I have dined at 'Ganko' a few times in Osaka, but this was my first time at the Kyoto Station branch. Personally, I think the quality of ingredients is good compared to other Japanese chain restaurants, the variety of dishes is rich, and the portions are generous, all at a relatively affordable price which is a unique feature of this place. This time, we each ordered our favorite set meal and a side dish. - Omi beef tendon dashi-wrapped eel roll: I have seen eel rolls wrapped in rice, but this was the first time I tried one with beef tendon. Both the dashi roll and the beef tendon were delicious. - Bluefin tuna fatty sushi set meal: One of my acquaintances ordered this set meal. It includes bluefin tuna fatty sushi, negitoro maki, large conger eel tempura, and saru soba noodles. The tempura set meal is common in other restaurants, but considering the taste and portion of the fatty sushi and conger eel tempura, it's quite a good deal. - Crab steamed sushi and Waragi bento (with raw yuba shabu): The other acquaintance and I ordered this set. It includes an appetizer box (similar to an assortment of small dishes), sashimi, side dishes, tempura, raw yuba shabu, crab steamed sushi, and red miso soup. Each dish was carefully prepared with an elegant taste. In Kyoto, there are countless restaurants that serve delicious Japanese cuisine, but most of them are not easily accessible to commoners like me. However, everyone wishes to enjoy delicious food as much as possible. In that sense, 'Ganko' might just be the perfect Japanese restaurant for me.
