The restaurant has a wide garden beyond the gate, with a dining area at the back, making it truly Kyoto-style. The seating is traditional Japanese style with tables arranged spaciously, creating a modern yet traditional atmosphere. Enjoying a meal while gazing at the garden makes you forget about your daily life. The time spent here is truly luxurious. The menu includes soba, udon, and a special cooked rice set. I tried the cold soba set for 1,750 yen. The cold soba comes with cucumber, eggplant, yuba, kamaboko, onsen tamago, and bonito flakes. The flavor of the broth is rich and delicious. The fresh vegetables pair well with the soba. The cooked rice also has a gentle flavor, but the broth adds a delicious touch. The Nishin soba is also a popular choice among customers.

I visited during Saturday lunchtime. There were 2 groups waiting, but I was seated in about 10 minutes. They had individual dishes and sets with rice. I ordered the Duck Nanban dish. The broth had a rich duck flavor and it was delicious. The garden right inside the entrance was also beautiful, making it a visually enjoyable place to dine.

Located about 15 minutes from Gion Shijo on the Keihan Main Line, this shop stands near the gate of Kodai-ji Temple. Kodai-ji Temple is a historic temple established by Kitano Mandokoro, the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The temple is famous for its evening visits during cherry blossom and autumn leaf seasons. I visited on a weekday before 1:00 PM and there was no wait, so I was able to relax. I heard that their mixed rice with toppings is delicious, so I ordered the "seiro soba" set with mixed rice. The soba itself was nothing special, but when eaten with the mixed rice and pickles, it gave off a "Kyoto vibe". I was surprised to see that the pickles were finely sliced. The mixed rice, however, was quite ordinary and didn't leave a lasting impression. There were elderly couples enjoying tempura and soba with beer, as well as foreign tourists, giving the place a global atmosphere. The area from Kiyomizu Temple to Kodai-ji Temple has many food stalls but limited seating, so this place is recommended for a quick break.

You can take off your shoes and enjoy your meal while admiring the courtyard at a soba restaurant located in front of Ginkaku-ji Temple. They seem to cater mainly to tourists and are open until evening. Based on my review, it's best to avoid the herring soba and go for the anago tempura soba set instead. The set comes with rice, but it was too soft. The herring in the herring soba was a bit tough. On the other hand, the anago tempura was thick and fluffy, quite decent. The soba noodles tended to be on the softer side. The broth surprisingly had a strong bonito flavor.

In August 2019, I visited Kiyomizu-dera and other places for a stroll and got a bit hungry, so I decided to have some soba noodles at the cozy restaurant called "Namihi." The cold soba with shredded chicken set for 1550 yen was a great deal! It came with plenty of steamed chicken and the dipping sauce was quite flavorful. The side dishes of mixed rice and pickles were also delicious. Thank you for the meal!

The other day, I told my colleague that I went to see the autumn leaves light-up at Kodai-ji Temple. They said they wanted to go too! There happened to be a special exhibition at the Shozo Museum, so I invited them to join me. Autumn in Kyoto is bustling with people. However, the Shozo Museum is a small hidden gem where you can relax in a quiet atmosphere. They exhibit treasures related to Kodai-ji Temple and its affiliated temples. Items related to Toyotomi Hideyoshi and his wife, Nene (who became a nun and took the name Kodai-in), are highlights that convey the Momoyama culture. You can also visit just the museum. After spending a leisurely time at the museum, we felt cold and decided to have lunch nearby. But this is Kyoto, where it's difficult to enter a restaurant without a reservation. So we visited "Hagi Charyo," located near Kodai-ji Temple, for the first time. The restaurant has a traditional Japanese atmosphere with a beautiful garden and reasonable prices, making it welcoming for tourists and foreigners. We wanted something warm because of the cold weather, so we ordered the following sets: - Kuzu (arrowroot) dumpling soba (limited to autumn and winter) with the famous mixed rice set - Sansai (mountain vegetable) soba with the famous mixed rice set The soba I had was topped with sticky kuzu, which warmed me up! The dumplings were made with octopus and were fluffy. The Kyoto-style dashi broth was light in flavor, and I finished every drop. The restaurant's famous mixed rice was gentle in taste and simply delicious. The garden was beautifully maintained, and we enjoyed our Kyoto-style meal while gazing at the serene garden. There were table seats in the front and tatami mat seats in the back where you take off your shoes, making it suitable for families and children. It was a great value restaurant with no need for reservations or waiting time. Unfortunately, we couldn't see the light-up since it was daytime, but the autumn leaves were at their peak!

When I went to Kyoto for work, I had lunch there. It was cold, so I chose warm soba noodles. I had the Kyoto specialty herring soba for 1000 yen. The broth had a light Kyoto-like color but a strong Kyoto-like flavor. It reminded me of the soba shop near Ginkakuji. The soba noodles were soft, which wasn't my preference. Maybe my impression would have been different if it was cold soba noodles. I like soba noodles with a firm texture, so I always struggle in winter - wanting to drink warm broth but preferring cold soba noodles. I end up regretting ordering the warm option. The herring wasn't too soft, more on the firm side, which was a bit disappointing.

I want to eat Japanese food in Kyoto, Kawaramachi. While walking along Nene no Michi, I found a nice restaurant called "Hagi Charyo" and decided to visit. The entrance had a Kyoto vibe, with a beautiful garden that made me feel calm. Inside, the atmosphere was like a traditional Japanese house, which felt nostalgic. I tried the Tempura Soba Set for ¥1,350, and even though I usually prefer udon over soba, I found it delicious. The soba was really good, and I fell in love with it that day. The location was perfect, and eating soba while looking at the garden was refreshing. The tempura was crispy and tasty as well. I would love to visit again when I go back to Kyoto.

I had the pleasure of dining at a small restaurant facing a garden with carp in Kyoto during the summer. I enjoyed the delicious eel tempura soba and mixed rice set meal. The eel had no fishy taste at all, and the tempura was perfectly crispy, a taste that cannot be replicated at home. The mixed rice, as advertised, was also very tasty.

The place and the storefront gave off a high-end vibe, but the atmosphere was casual and welcoming. I was drawn to the mixed rice dishes, so I ordered the kitsune soba and mixed rice set. The broth was flavorful and the mixed rice was cooked with the broth, making it delicious.

Entrance. I passed through a courtyard with a pond to get to the shop. I had the "Tenseiro Soba Set"♪ The garden and the atmosphere inside the shop were very nice. The staff were not pretentious, creating a comforting space like visiting a neighbor's house. When I visited, there were many Japanese customers, but when I arrived at the shop, the staff asked, "Two?" so maybe there are usually more foreign customers.
