The traditional chestnut natto has a moderate sweetness, allowing the rich chestnut flavor to come through. It is a delight for chestnut lovers. The texture is smooth and chewy, with a moist mouthfeel. The chestnut flavor is well balanced, creating a gentle and flavorful experience. It comes in a convenient bag for a good value.

I received roasted chestnut sweet potato as a souvenir from my trip to Kyoto. It's a quite elegant chestnut bun. It's a bite-sized piece that's easy to eat. You can really feel the chestnut flavor. The sweet bean paste filling was quite sweet. It's a souvenir that I was happy to receive.

This is something I bought at the station on my way back from Kyoto. It was recommended as the top choice by the staff. They mentioned that it had won an award, which piqued my interest. The bag contains bite-sized snacks shaped like chestnuts. The chestnuts crumbled easily and had a texture that resembled real chestnuts, making them delicious.

I came across this confectionery while looking for sweets to try during my pilgrimage to the Thirty-Three Kannon Temples in Western Japan. I found out that the shop is located in cube near Kyoto Station, so I decided to visit. The shop is small but the recommended specialty, the roasted chestnut sweet, stands out. I bought some to take home as it is the shop's number one souvenir. The staff at the shop were very kind and provided excellent service. The roasted chestnut sweet is bite-sized and I ended up having two pieces. It is a bit dry but the flavor of the chestnut becomes more enjoyable with each bite. It is a sophisticated choice for serving to guests with tea. I would definitely like to visit again.

Because my body is tired due to the hot summer weather, I've been craving sweets lately. While wandering around a shop in Kyoto, I came across the words "Mizu Manju." I had actually wanted to try it ever since seeing it on TV. It's a specialty from Ogaki City in Gifu Prefecture, made with a mixture of arrowroot starch and bracken starch wrapped around sweet bean paste. The transparent appearance gives off a refreshing summer vibe. Some have a short shelf life of 30 minutes, but the ones I bought had a 60-day expiration date. They're more like "Kuzu Manju" due to being made with only kudzu starch, giving them a firm texture. They're about the size of a bite-sized jelly. The smooth strained sweet bean paste inside. I enjoyed them chilled from the fridge.

On a holiday in May 2017, we were lucky enough to get free Shinkansen tickets from Tokyo to Kyoto. We visited Kyoto, which is not a usual destination for us as we prefer places like Okinawa if the travel cost is the same. On our way back, we stopped by a souvenir shop called The Cube in Kyoto Station building. The shop sells a variety of sweets from both Japanese and Western styles. Surprisingly, we noticed that traditional Japanese sweet shops in Kyoto do not sell dorayaki, unlike in Tokyo where it is quite common. We came across a shop called Wakana-ya, which caught our attention with their "kamaburo" sweet, a type of steamed bun. Unfortunately, they did not have the larger size available, so we ended up purchasing their dorayaki called "Kuriboku" for ¥140. The dorayaki weighed 59g, which is smaller than the average size found in commercial stores. The skin of the dorayaki had a crispy texture, typical of Kyoto-style dorayaki, and the red bean paste filling included diced chestnuts. The chestnuts were finely cut and mixed with the red bean paste, giving a strong chestnut flavor. Overall, the dorayaki had a unique taste and was different from the typical dorayaki found in other regions.

I received chestnut sweet beans as a gift. The taste is like regular sweet beans with a strong chestnut flavor. It reminds me of the countryside where I have had similar snacks before. The sweetness is gentle and natural. I received two different kinds, but I couldn't really tell the difference between them.
