I visited thinking it was a proper sushi restaurant, but it turned out to be more like an izakaya. They served appetizers first. Appetizers at a sushi restaurant? Is this an izakaya? I ordered scallops, eel, sea urchin, Spanish mackerel, salmon roe, octopus, squid, lean tuna, fatty tuna, and red miso soup. The rice was sticky and overly sour. It didn't taste like sushi rice. The toppings were large and just placed on top without being properly molded. Is this a conveyor belt sushi place? And all the toppings were watery and bland. Some even had a slight off taste. The bill was quite high. It seems like many customers here are not familiar with sushi. This place is not a sushi restaurant, it's an izakaya.

The price is reasonable! The taste is excellent! Both the sushi and the side dishes are delicious (^ν^) The pickled ginger was tasty ^_^

I had the opportunity to visit Maizuru, a place known for its delicious seafood, so I decided to visit this highly rated restaurant based on word of mouth. However, I quickly realized that you can't always rely on reviews. The counter was filled with a variety of fish. I opted for the chef's selection. First, we were served uni and squid salad, as well as white fish in nanban sauce, which were okay. The sashimi platter included Maizuru's famous trumpet shell, which was indeed sweet and delicious. The miso-marinated tilefish lacked flavor. The conger eel tofu had a good taste, but the sauce was too watery. The sushi served was more of a traditional style rather than Edo-mae sushi, with larger pieces of fish. The fatty tuna was average, while the flatfish was disappointing. The trumpet shell was sweet and large, but the cutlassfish lacked flavor. Surprisingly, a beef sushi was also served without prior notice, which I declined. The sea urchin served was disappointing as it was not the high-quality one displayed at the counter. We also ordered extra green onion o-toro, red tuna, and rolled sushi, which were all average. We had two beers and the total bill for two people was 26,000 yen, which I found to be quite expensive. The sashimi and grilled dishes were decent, but the sushi was disappointing. The rice was too soft, making it difficult to eat the large pieces of fish. I found it strange that this restaurant has high ratings. The service was good, with a friendly owner and staff. However, they frequently changed the wet towels but did not clear the empty plates promptly. Overall, I found the experience at Isamizushi to be underwhelming.

Kyoto, the ancient capital of a thousand years, is the port town of Maizuru in the north. "Isami Sushi" is located just under a 10-minute walk from JR Higashi-Maizuru Station. The young chef is skilled in conversation and has a strong hand! He carefully selects seasonal ingredients, mainly focusing on local Maizuru, and sometimes even goes to the fishing port himself to purchase fish. In the discerning port town of Maizuru, there is no need to talk about the taste of the sushi that never fails to impress the visitors. In addition to sushi, this place also offers a variety of side dishes, allowing you to enjoy some drinks before enjoying the sushi. Despite being a high-end restaurant, the cozy atmosphere makes even first-time visitors feel at ease, thanks to the beautiful and friendly female owner and the warm hospitality of the kind-hearted head hostess. There are countless sushi restaurants in Maizuru, from high-end establishments to conveyor belt sushi, but I believe there is no other place that can match the atmosphere and sushi of this restaurant. When visiting Maizuru, I always feel like passing through the curtain of "Isami Sushi" first. It's truly a great restaurant. "I want to eat sushi at Isami!"

In Tango-Maizuru, known as the best sushi restaurant, I had the opportunity to visit twice in a short period of time. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. The chef and the hostess were both lovely. I ordered chef's choice sashimi both times, along with various sushi and side dishes like grilled tilefish, tilefish hot pot, conger eel with plum, grilled squid legs, and kawahagi sashimi. The dishes were all delicious and the fish was fresh. They have a good selection of sake as well. However, the bill was a bit high. For two people, we had 2 servings of sashimi, tilefish hot pot, conger eel, 6 pieces of chef's choice sushi, 3 beers, and 4 servings of sake, totaling 27,000 yen. It's not a place I would normally go for everyday sushi, but I would like to visit again if I have the chance, perhaps for a special occasion.

I currently live in Kyoto city, but when I used to live in Maizuru, I visited this restaurant every day for a while. The freshness and quality of the sushi is top-notch, and they have a wide variety of side dishes to enjoy with your drinks. A few years ago, the chef changed, and now a young master is making all the sushi, but he is very kind and the restaurant has many regular customers from the past. Whenever I go, I always run into someone I know (laughs). This might make it seem intimidating for first-time visitors, but I think that's just how sushi restaurants are. The prices are reasonable, and personally, I think it's delicious and affordable compared to the outrageously expensive high-end restaurants in Ginza or Akasaka. (Considering it's a local area, it may be considered high-end there.) It's my favorite restaurant, so my rating may be biased, but there's no doubt that it's the number one restaurant in Maizuru.

It is a restaurant near Higashi-Maizuru Station. The restaurant has about 10 counter seats and 4 private rooms. There are live fish such as sea bream, flounder, and yellowtail at the entrance, giving the place an elegant feel. I ordered the chef's selection sushi, which included fatty tuna, yellowtail, sea bream, shrimp, crab meat, salmon roe, sea urchin, and eel. Although there were no prices on the menu, the total came to around 8,000 yen for two people. The recommended fish for the season were flounder and horse mackerel. The flounder had firm flesh and a good texture, while the horse mackerel had a crunchy texture and thick meat, making me feel like I had to go to the Sea of Japan to enjoy it. The crab was also delicious, with its tightly packed meat offering sweetness and a unique umami flavor. There were many other dishes available, and a variety of Japanese sake options as well.

When I used to live in Maizuru, I was taken there a few times (sponsored). The dishes were definitely delicious, both the appetizers and the sushi, and it may be the best in Maizuru. However, it was also known to be the most expensive in Maizuru. If you go expecting to eat delicious fish at a low price in Maizuru, you might be disappointed. In the end, I never went there on my own dime. At that time, I used to frequent Ittenbari in Nishi-Maizuru, and I think the cost performance there is better. If you want sushi in Maizuru, I recommend going there. If there's a sponsorship, I'd love to go again.
