Lunch (780 yen) for today is here. Located a short walk east from Nishiki Street on Yanaginobanba Street, this small restaurant has only three tables. It seems like the owner, a motherly figure, runs the place by herself. There is only one menu option available, so there is no need to place an order. After about 10 minutes of waiting, the lunch for the day was served. It's not your typical lunch you find anywhere, nor is it like the obanzai in Kyoto. It could be described as a Kyoto mother's homemade lunch. The main dish is grilled salmon, accompanied by side dishes such as fried tofu and simmered daikon radish. There is also burdock, egg and silk pod stir-fry, miso soup, and rice. While not flashy, each dish is homemade and delicious in its own way. Come to think of it, about 30 years ago, I had lunch at a place nearby that was a traditional machiya house with no sign. Of course, I have no idea where that restaurant is now.

I was able to eat calmly. The smell of cigarettes has permeated the walls, so if you are very sensitive to this, you may need to be cautious. However, everything was delicious and I think it is a very good cost performance. In particular, the okra and enoki mushroom side dishes were amazingly delicious. Well, we taste with our tongue, not our eyes, so maybe I should say it was mouth-watering haha.

The main street of Kyoto, with cherry blossoms in full bloom, was bustling as if unaffected by the shadows of the coronavirus. While taking a stroll with a friend on a back street, we felt hungry and stumbled upon a sign advertising a lunch set for only 780 yen. We were surprised by the price and wondered if they really served lunch on a Saturday. When we opened the sliding door and peeked inside, we saw a woman alone behind the counter and asked if we could have lunch. She welcomed us in, and we entered. The interior of the restaurant was deserted, with only three tables and a counter. We ordered the set meal. The retro atmosphere of the place made us feel like we had stepped back in time to a scene from a drama. When my friend asked to use the restroom, the woman replied, "We only have a Japanese-style toilet, is that okay?" It felt like we had traveled back to the Showa era. Before long, she brought out all the dishes, saying, "I made everything myself, including the duck liver." The meal was so delicious, and we wondered if this was what traditional Kyoto home-cooked dishes were like. A couple who seemed to be regular customers came in and chatted with the owner, but the atmosphere was not uncomfortable at all. The 780 yen price tag seemed inadequate for the quality of the meal we enjoyed. It was a delightful lunch experience. Thank you for the meal.

Located just north of Nishiki Market in Kyoto, this restaurant is a cozy place serving traditional Kyoto-style home-cooked dishes. The restaurant is small, with a few tables lined up next to each other. We visited for lunch and ordered the daily special for ¥780. The menu listed grilled swordfish, fried eggplant, cucumber, eringi mushrooms, broccoli in sauce, nanohana sesame salad, simmered kabura turnips, rice, and miso soup. Since it was close to closing time, we also received some grilled small shrimp as an extra dish. The variety of side dishes was delicious. The miso soup had baby scallops, which was a unique touch. Being near Nishiki Market, the restaurant offers a wide range of fresh and affordable ingredients. I would like to try making miso soup with baby scallops at home sometime.

"Yanagibaba Kintei" (Kyoto, Karasuma) Today's lunch 780 yen
On this day, there was salt-grilled flounder with roe, sweet potatoes, white radish, fried tofu, enoki mushrooms, simmered burdock root, grated yam with raw egg, cucumber with mozuku seaweed, and jellyfish with vinegar. The flounder was sold out, so it was replaced with swordfish.

The lunch set at this location is 780 yen! If you go to the market, you'll find the same content but twice the price. It was a delicious set meal with many options.

Excellent. I can feel the depth of Kyoto's food culture. There is no flashiness, but the high quality of each dish, especially the grilled mackerel, was outstanding. The perfect grilling and the plumpness of the flesh were shocking.

I was debating whether to go for lunch, but ended up here. As soon as I walked in, I regretted it a bit. It smelled like cats, even though I haven't been to a house with cats for a long time. It was a tough environment to eat in. While chatting with the manager, I waited for my food. It took a bit of time. When the dishes came out, they looked beautiful and delicious. The miso soup even had Nameko mushrooms in it! I felt relieved that I came. I took a sip of the miso soup... it smelled weird. What is this? Trying to stay positive, I tried the other dishes but they were not tasty. Even the sashimi smelled bad. Only the pickled cucumbers and simmered eggplant were okay. It was my first time trying salted somen noodles, and although they didn't look great, they tasted okay. Since there were no refills, I just forced myself to finish everything with tea and rice. The rice they served was dry and hard. Honestly, I felt like leaving without eating anything would have been the right decision. I couldn't handle the miso soup. It felt like a punishment. Why did it cost 780 yen? I paid and left the restaurant with a very sad feeling.

I visited "Yanagibaba Nishikitei" that I had been curious about when passing through Nishiki Market. When looking at the lunch menu, it seemed to be made up of dishes that are gentle on the body and delicious, so I decided to open the door and go in. It seems like the owner is managing the place alone? There is only one lunch menu option. The most delicious dish was the seared saury as the main dish. The simmered dish had a gentle flavor as well. The miso soup was also delicious and I ended up finishing everything. Thank you for the meal.

Everyone's body craves different nutrients every day!! Depending on your physical condition, fatigue level, age, etc., what tastes delicious to you may vary♪ When you get the nutrients your body craves, it tastes delicious♪ Our bodies are amazing!! Using the best ingredients and honing their skills, they create delicious dishes♪ There are many restaurants that serve food, but they can be quite expensive! It's understandable though... Even if you want to eat there every day, you can't! Processed foods with preservatives and additives may taste delicious at the time, but you'll get tired of them eventually! This restaurant is the best value for me... I want to eat here every day♪ It's delicious♪ The daily menu changes depending on what the owner buys that day!! They use only seasonal ingredients♪ There is no freezer in the restaurant, so the dishes are made fresh every time you visit♪ It's always a surprise when you go there! It's a set meal only restaurant♪ Today's menu is posted on the door. It costs 780 yen. I visited around 2 o'clock♪ It's not crowded♪ There are some open seats now♪ The owner mentioned that... - Daikon simmered in soy sauce→ Changed to marinated onions, shiitake mushrooms, and squid - Simmered squid innards→ Changed to simmered clams It doesn't matter to me at all♪ Everything tastes delicious♪ The owner quickly starts grilling the fish... The main dish is always fish! They have a big fish grill... You don't see it in small restaurants like this one!! The side dishes are prepared while the fish is grilling♪ They work efficiently! By the time the fish is grilled, the rice and miso soup are ready♪ The taste... - Grilled mackerel marinated in miso... Juicy mackerel with a hint of miso... Even if you don't like miso, it's okay! - Marinated onions, shiitake mushrooms, and squid... Grid-cut squid... The flavors of squid and shiitake mushrooms blend well with the onions... Refreshing♪ - Mixed vegetable and tofu simmer... Various vegetables and konjac... Moist and not too beany... - Snow pea and egg stir-fry... The aroma of snow peas♪ The texture of the beans is still there. - Simmered clams... Crunchy with the flavor of clams spreading in your mouth... Happiness... - Rice... Specially shared by a farmer in Tango for personal use... Fluffy and delicious♪ The sesame sprinkled on top is delightful! - Miso soup... Wakame seaweed clear soup... Lightly seasoned clear soup... Overall, a slightly sweet flavor... Made with dashi and the umami of the ingredients♪ The dashi is not too strong!! A light flavor mainly based on kombu... Perfect for me who doesn't like the smell of fish♪ It's a gentle taste that resets your body... The customers are mainly regulars and tourists during the day, and regulars and business travelers who come to Kyoto for dinner at night! The owner says... I cut my own hair and hardly wear makeup... I spend all my money on eating... I love eating more than anything♪ She started the restaurant with her husband, and after 10 years, he started a different job, leaving her to run the restaurant alone for 18 years... This June marks the 29th year! Amazing! Using only seasonal, domestically sourced ingredients and offering them in their best condition for 780 yen is the best value! I couldn't help but ask for a second helping of rice, but there was no additional charge... It's a happy meal... A secret restaurant! It's delicious♪

The weather felt like spring, so I decided to take a little trip and stumbled upon "Yanagibaba Nishikitei." The name sounded delicious, so I changed my plans and decided to go in. The restaurant was quite small, with only a couple from Kanto as customers. The lunch menu had only one option for the day, which was grilled mackerel with salt. The energetic middle-aged or older female owner managed the place by herself. The food took quite a while to be served, and I barely made it back to work on time. The fish and side dishes were decent, but the miso soup was a bit off-putting. It had a strange taste that I couldn't quite place. Despite the slow service, the owner seemed to have a good rapport with the other customers. The walls were adorned with figures and toys given by customers. It seems like a place where like-minded individuals gather. Just please, adjust the miso soup a bit more!

I'm feeling a bit exhausted in this heat...(_Д_;) I remembered a shop that a fellow reviewer recently visited while walking nearby, so I decided to stop by. The lunch menu changes daily and it looks like it's full of vegetables, giving a healthy impression. It's located just up the Yanagibashi street from Nishiki, but the exterior is easy to miss if you're not paying attention. I pushed open the slightly stiff door and entered the shop. The friendly staff welcomed me. The "Today's Lunch (780 yen)" is quite reasonable for this area! There was only one other customer before me, but I had to wait for about 15 minutes after ordering. I relaxed while waiting, fanning myself with the fan that was placed there. The interior of this place is quite impressive. Near where I sat, there were lots of Kumamon cutouts! Among them, there was a samurai figure, so it was interesting to look at (laughs). The shop is very small, so it might not be suitable for large groups. I heard that they might have shared seating when it's busy, but it was still quiet at this time. Now, about the lunch I had today, every dish was delicious (*^∇^*) The salt-grilled fish was from the head part, but it was tender and flavorful, perfect with white rice. I craved some pickles. The various ingredients in the rolled omelette and side dishes had a natural taste and were easy to eat. The deliciousness seeped right into my tired body. One nice thing about set meals is that they often come with chilled tofu. It had plenty of condiments and was great. They don't provide wet towels, but there was a big box of tissues placed there. After eating, I was able to cool down a bit and recover! It was delicious, thank you for the meal!

If you don't like cats, are not good at using chopsticks, don't like small restaurants, or are in a hurry, it's better not to go to Yanaginobaba Nishiki Tei. If you want to eat high-quality fish dishes, it's better to go to "Kyoto Ichino Den Honten" located about 8 doors north for Kyoto-style pickled fish. However, if you want to eat cheap Kyoto side dishes, this place is recommended. The location is on Yanaginobaba Street, near Nishiki. This restaurant serves dishes sourced from Nishiki and offers a variety of home-cooked meals with a Kyoto-style flavor. Today's lunch special was grilled salmon collar, which looked delicious. The menu includes a variety of side dishes and the seasoning is Kyoto-style. It seems like a cozy place where locals and those working in Nishiki come to eat. Enjoy a meal like this every day in Kyoto is something to envy. It's nice to have a variety of everyday restaurants where you can enjoy a meal and live comfortably in Kyoto.

It is a restaurant near Nishiki Market. They only serve set meals for lunch, which change daily. The menu is posted at the entrance. The main dish is usually fish, which suited my taste, so I entered without hesitation. The friendly owner guided me to a table at the back since the entrance was cold, even though I was dining alone. Today's main dish was grilled salmon collar, which was very delicious. They offered to refill the rice if I wanted more. Unfortunately, the side dishes of simmered hijiki seaweed and napa cabbage were unusually cold. I wish they had been a bit warmer. There is no parking lot, but there is a coin parking lot right next to the restaurant. It costs 200 yen for 20 minutes. I couldn't find a spot there, so I parked in a nearby coin parking lot and had a meal. The meal cost 780 yen and the parking fee was 600 yen. In Kyoto, it's tough because there are few restaurants with parking.

During this time of year when tourists increase, it can be difficult to find a place to eat lunch around Nishiki Market due to the crowded environment. This place is probably not even featured in guidebooks. The entrance is narrow, so many people may pass by without noticing it, and even if you peek inside, it's small with limited seating, so tourists might not come in. It's a small seafood izakaya where you can have a lunch set with fish as the main dish. Today's special was hatahata (sandfish). I was the only one who wasn't a regular customer. The owner even left halfway through to make a delivery. The relaxed atmosphere is quite nice.

When I come around here, I sometimes go for lunch. It's a small restaurant that gets full with just 6 people, but the proprietress manages it alone and makes you feel like you've come home. There is only one set meal available, but it always comes with delicious fish and a variety of side dishes. The taste is very gentle, not masked by food additives. It's not flashy, but the seasoning is based on faithful basics. It's a lightly sweet, Kyoto-style flavor that suits me perfectly. I've been here many times, and I've never thought the food wasn't delicious. If I could, I would eat this set meal every day without getting tired of it. If it were nearby, I would definitely visit every day. It's really one of those restaurants that I don't want to be widely known.

I thought about eating at a certain restaurant, but they only had yellowtail, I wish they had Spanish mackerel or silver cod instead... Oh, I really wanted to have grilled fish with miso sauce, what should I do... As I wandered around, I suddenly saw on the menu, "Grilled Spanish mackerel with miso sauce" This... this must be a sign to come here! As soon as I entered, the interior was a bit messy... Oh no! I made a mistake! I started to panic... Well, I haven't seen the rice yet so let's stay calm... And then the set meal arrived! It looked very delicious! There were many items and all had a light and gentle flavor. The fish was also very tasty. The mysterious thing was the miso soup, maybe it had sake lees in it? It had a unique taste. You shouldn't judge people and restaurants by appearances! I'm sorry.
