At the end of May, on that morning, for some reason, I found myself in Kyoto... It was a Kyoto trip planned by my wife... and I accompanied her, yes! I accompanied her (laughs). This was a 3-day trip starting from that day, and as a reviewer, I wanted to enjoy some good food as well. I had two requests for my wife, and the first one was that I wanted to have morning ramen on the day we arrived. Right next to Kyoto Station, there are two famous ramen shops competing side by side, the well-known "Honke Daiichi Asahi" and "Shinfukusai Kan Honten." Both shops have ratings over 3.7, and I had unintentionally eaten at Honke Daiichi Asahi 5 years ago during a Kyoto trip, so this time... I decided to go to Shinfukusai Kan. However, to my disappointment, even though it wasn't a regular holiday, the shop was closed... temporary closure? I couldn't help but exclaim, "What, closed??" The customers waiting in line at the neighboring Honke Daiichi Asahi all turned to look at me (even though it was only 9 a.m. and there was already a line forming, which was surprising...). I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should just settle for the shop next door, but no, today I had decided on "Shinfukusai"! However... the shock was huge... I walked back to the station in dismay. The beginning of the trip was like this... what lies ahead... what lies ahead... I returned, but time was still passing, and nothing was open yet... feeling disheartened, I entered the "Mister Donut" on the 2nd floor of the station. It was fortunate that they were open... As you may all know, Kyoto Station... (the special effects masterpiece destroyed by Gamera!) has an open atrium, and the Mister Donut at Kyoto Station is probably the most scenic Mister Donut in Japan... Kyoto dialect works wonders for mental shock, and I was soothed by the gentle words of the shop's staff... There, we ordered 2 Cheese Dogs, 1 Chocolate Fashion Pon de Ring, 2 Iced Coffees (M)... Chocolate Fashion is my personal favorite at Mister Donut, I love it the most, it's like Sata Andagi... Eating it reminds me of the donuts my mother used to fry for me when I was a child, they were crooked, though. Pon de Ring is a later product from Mister Donut, isn't it? When you tear it apart, it looks like a hungry caterpillar (^^;;) Its unique texture is said to be made from cassava, which is also the raw material for tapioca... Cheese Dog took the longest to cook and was the last to arrive, surprisingly, the bread was delicious, chewy and... the sausage was big and crispy, delicious, a hot dog at Mister Donut, well, this is also good... Can people who are not Mister Donut customers sit at the liberating seats?... When we were there, even an old man drinking in the morning was being scolded by the station security guard... Morning ramen was snubbed, and Mister Donut... (laughs) This is not just about Kyoto, but about travel in general (^^;; It can't be helped... travel doesn't always go as planned. Well, what kind of adventure will the next 3 days bring? The purpose of this trip, according to my wife, is to visit temples and shrines that are still unvisited but in the middle to upper class? So that's it... as a non-believer, I will simply accompany her on that. Now, shall we head to the first destination, Byodoin Temple in Uji... It seems half of it is going to be spontaneous... but still... morning ramen... I wanted to eat it... σ(^_^;) Off we go... to be continued...
