Located on the small path of Ohara Women's between Ohara bus stop and Jakko-in Temple near Kyoto City's Ohara Elementary and Junior High School in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto. The exterior has a simple yet warm wooden appearance, while the interior exudes a cozy natural atmosphere. The menu offers a wide variety of drinks, with lunch plates, pizzas, and sweets also available. The lunch plates have their contents listed on a board, and you can also order a drink to make it a set. The pudding-style cheesecake has a pudding-like finish with caramel sauce and cream on top. The cheesecake and caramel sauce are perfectly balanced, offering a soft, smooth texture that melts in your mouth. Topped with blueberries, the cream has a rich, refreshing flavor. The gentle bitterness of the caramel sauce adds an accent to the overall taste, allowing the cheesecake to shine. The hot coffee has a clean, refreshing bitterness with a smooth, mellow taste. In the tranquil atmosphere of the changing seasons in the Satoyama, you can relax surrounded by nature. Despite its challenging access with only public transportation, the restaurant is well-loved by customers from afar.

The plate lunch, ginger ale, and cheesecake were all high quality. Each dish was well-executed. I especially liked the tonkatsu in the plate lunch. But overall, everything was delicious. The cheesecake looked like a pudding but was actually a rich and dense cheesecake. It was a pleasant surprise how well it paired with caramel. The ginger ale was also meticulously made and might be the best I've ever had.

I finally visited Ohara and KULM that I had always wanted to go to. After visiting Sanzenin, I stopped by. I tried the cheesecake that looked like pudding and the ginger ale that I have been into lately. I ordered a gin and soda. It was a nice day with pleasant breeze. I was soothed by the music and atmosphere in the shop. The space was perfect for the great nature of Ohara. The cheesecake I ordered looked like pudding, but it was actually a rich and creamy cheesecake that was incredibly delicious. It's a dish that you want to savor little by little. The gin was "Kino-bi," a Kyoto gin. Its bitterness surprisingly matched well with the rich cheesecake. I loved the atmosphere of the shop and the dessert. I'm glad I came.

I went with a friend who had been wanting to come for a while. It was so delicious that we ended up ordering pizza too haha. It was the first time we ordered two pizzas haha. She pretty much ate most of it haha. Today's plate included prosciutto and Ohara vegetable salad, carrot rapé, zucchini fritters, tortilla chicken with roasted tomato sauce, sweet potato soup, rice, and the pizza of the day which was salmon and Ohara vegetable pizza with cream cheese. For dessert, we had cream cheese pudding. It was hot today so we also had homemade ginger ale. Overall, everything was carefully made without cutting corners and all the deli dishes were incredibly delicious!

I stopped by around 3:00 pm on my way back from Jikkoin Temple. Unfortunately, the pudding was sold out, so I decided to try the pudding-style cheesecake instead. However, the pudding-style turned out to be...! What was brought to me looked like a delicious pudding, but the taste was definitely cheesecake. It was quite large and heavy. It was delicious! It paired well with the coffee made from organic beans from Timor-Leste, which they are particular about. Ohara is not crowded with tourists at this time, so you can relax and enjoy the temples and shops. The cakes look beautiful and this may be a hidden gem. Just be aware that they have the last order at 3:30 pm and close at 4:00 pm, so be mindful of the early closing time.

I finally got to go to the restaurant after not being able to make a reservation since the peak of autumn leaves spark season last month! Today's plate included prosciutto, Daibara lettuce and carrot slaw, daikon tomato stew, Spanish omelette, turnip fritters, and Tanba chicken roast pumpkin potage. Everything was delicious! For dessert, we had cream cheese pudding. I had a hot lemonade while the others had hot ginger. I wonder when we can go again.

A leisurely Sunday in Kyoto with no plans. Started the day by heading to Demachi Futaba for some shopping, then wandered around Kyo-no-Mori and Kawai Shrine. Since the weather was nice, I decided to extend my trip to Ohara. I had planned to visit the local vegetable buffet restaurant, Kurin, but it was incredibly crowded so I had to give up. Instead, I found a lovely terrace where I enjoyed a beer break. The weather was perfect with a refreshing breeze. I should have had a meal there too.

I visited a lovely cafe that I had been curious about while in Ohara. The cafe opened in October 2018 and is located in Ohara, Sakyo-ku. It is just a 1-2 minute walk east from the bus station along the river. There is only a sidewalk in front of the cafe, so it is better to park in a tourist parking lot nearby if you are driving. On a slightly rainy and chilly day, the cafe was bustling with tourists, so I waited a bit outside. The stylish interior of the cafe is filled with the warmth of wood, and the view of the greenery of Ohara from the windows is incredibly soothing. Although they serve lunch plates and pizzas, I had already eaten, so I opted for dessert and a drink. I had the homemade hot ginger for ¥600, which revived my slightly cold body. The gentle acidity of the lemon, combined with the strong taste of ginger and spices, felt like it was invigorating my body. I also had the lemon cake for ¥350, as I love lemon cakes. It came with fruits at such a reasonable price. The outer layer was tangy, while the inside had a sweet and rustic flavor with a soft texture. It was a delightful treat for both my body and soul. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

Let's go to Ohara Jakko-in! After being on the Kyoto bus for almost an hour, you are taken into the rich nature. Summer is coming to an end. The sky is blue and red spider lilies are blooming on the roadside. Getting off the bus stop, you look at Google Maps. You find Kurumu a short walk away. There is no traffic jam around the shop. It's a laid-back countryside area. However, customers are waiting on the bench outside the store. There was no one around until we got to the store. As soon as you arrive at the store, you see people there...! After waiting for about 10 minutes, you are invited inside. There are two tables and a counter. You sit at the counter seat. You order the famous creme brulee from Kurumu. Also, a lemon squash. However, it was the last one due to its popularity, so your companion orders a pudding to share with the creme brulee. The creme brulee is popular indeed. I visited on a weekday afternoon. I recommend going early. The pudding has a simple taste and is very delicious. The creme brulee has a perfect balance of sugar and sauce, and when you taste it, you can't help but close your eyes and go "Mmm~ delicious." You can see the babbling of the river from the window. Beyond that is a middle school surrounded by nature. Enjoying the creme brulee while being overwhelmed by the grandeur of nature was truly impressive.

Today I made a reservation in advance before visiting. Reservations are only available for visits between 11am and 12pm. The main dish today was grilled beef, and the soup was cold corn potage. It was extremely delicious. I always end up ordering hot ginger as my drink. For dessert, I had a pudding, but next time I will definitely try the cheesecake pudding or maybe the crème brûlée!

The atmosphere is nice and the cafe is cute and delicious. I recommend making a reservation to be safe. I highly recommend it! I made a reservation for 11:00 on a holiday and visited. You can only reserve from 11:30 to 12:00, but the service is a bit slow, so the turnover of seats is not good. I recommend making a reservation. [Food ordered] Lunch (one plate) ¥1600 Pizza (homemade pizza with Obara salad and Parma ham) ¥1500 Craft beer ¥600 Cafe au lait ¥600 Pudding ¥450 Creme brulee ¥550 It's a bit pricey, but it's delicious and the dishes are very beautiful. The healthy and generous portions are also good. The pizza has a lot of toppings, so much that you can't see the bread dough! It's hard to eat, so it's best to avoid it on a new date (laughs). The pudding has a gentle taste with a slightly bitter caramel. It's a bit firm. It's a bit crowded and not very convenient, but I would love to visit here again. Thank you for the meal!

I finally got to go to the restaurant after it had been temporarily closed for a while. It was a sunny Sunday and both the restaurant and the neighboring Kirin were fully booked for lunch. I adjusted my schedule and managed to get in around 2 pm after spending some time at a day spa. I ordered the lunch plate for ¥1200, added a drink for an extra ¥300 (I chose a hot ginger drink), and for dessert, I went with the cheesecake that looked like a pudding for ¥550. Each item on the plate was perfectly cooked and I finished everything in no time! The homemade hot ginger drink warmed me up nicely. The cheesecake was even better than the famous pudding specialty shop in Kanagawa! It was so delicious! I wish I had gone sooner!

I walked along the riverbank and after a while, I found the restaurant. I chose a seat facing the river. I ordered a craft beer. When I ordered lunch, they also offered some small dishes to go with the beer. It was so nice to enjoy a little bit of food with my beer. I tried various small dishes from the menu. It was amazing. I leisurely savored the atmosphere of Ohara and enjoyed my time. I reminisced about visiting Jakko-in Temple afterwards. Thank you for the meal.

It's been a while since I had lunch with a friend. It's been hard to invite them out for lunch for a long time... I took a day off and the weather was nice, so I drove to a cafe I wanted to go to in Ohara. On the way there, it became 11:00, so I asked my friend to call and check if they were open and if we could make a reservation. The place had just opened and was already full, so they would have to wait for about an hour and a half... "I'll wait. I'm on my way," they said, and the staff told them they would write down their name for the queue. Thank you! I parked at a cheap-looking parking lot nearby and walked around. There were several stylish and cute shops lined up. After about 30 minutes of waiting, we got a relaxed counter seat. Happy. I ordered today's lunch plate, iced coffee, and lemon cake. In about 10 minutes, a very cute plate arrived. The taste was delicious! It might not be enough for guys. I ate while looking at the flow of the river. The breeze started to come in and it felt nice. The lemon cake had a firm texture. It felt like stabbing the fork into it (laughs). Delicious. I would love to go again, but I'm sure it will be very crowded with the lifting of restrictions and the upcoming season. It's because we have to wait even on weekdays. But, I'll definitely go again with my female friends.

Yes, let's eat in Kyoto #70. Yesterday's topic was "Cheesecake like Cheese" http://kazuuun.blog79.fc2.com/blog-entry-22076.html. So today... We are in Kyoto, Ohara. We came all the way here but the restaurant we were looking for is closed. So we went further north... Finally, we found "KULM" (Kyoto, Ohara). This is the northernmost update of Kyoto in this blog. It's quite a remote location, almost in Katada, Shiga. Pudding-style cheesecake 550 yen, Ice coffee 500 yen.

The long state of emergency has ended, and cafes like this one, which were only open on weekdays, seem to be gradually easing restrictions. I wanted to drink coffee after a long time, so I tried the blend from Uf Coffee. It has a mild acidity and a rounded flavor, especially when brewed with Ohara water. It goes well with sweet treats. The cheesecake looks like a pudding, but it tastes like cheesecake and is delicious. Feeling adventurous, I also tried the panna cotta with a citrusy flavor, perfect for early summer. Reservations are accepted only in the morning, but they will contact you if there are openings, so you can explore the area while waiting. Be aware that there may be a long wait for lunch on weekends. They have strict measures in place to prevent the spread of infection, so it's best to take precautions even in a cafe setting. Planning your visit around this cafe is unlikely to leave you disappointed.

During my visit to Sanzenin, I went for lunch. It was crowded and there were no seats available, but a couple eating outside recommended the plate lunch here. They said they come three times a week, which made me envious. I made a reservation and passed the time at Jakko-in. It took longer than expected, but the wait was worth it for the delicious lunch. For dessert, I had lemon cake while my friend had pudding. Both were really tasty. Even though I often visit Kyoto, I rarely make it up north, but I definitely want to come back to this restaurant for lunch.

Today, I went to Ohara to escape the heat. It was a hot sunny Sunday. I arrived around 12:45 PM and there were already 5 groups waiting. It's crowded on weekends, especially in tourist areas. The neighboring buffet restaurant, KIRIN, also had a line. It was a bit confusing because the names are similar. Later, I checked the restaurant's Facebook page and saw that I should have made a reservation before coming. I missed that! Reservations are accepted until 12 PM. I thought cafes didn't take reservations, so I didn't check. I need to check social media before going to a restaurant from now on. There are 3 waiting seats available, but they can still be hit by direct sunlight at certain times. Instead of waiting the whole time, I decided to take a stroll around Ohara first. After about an hour, I returned thinking it might be my turn soon, but there were still 2 groups ahead of me. It took another hour for those 2 groups to leave. In the end, I waited for about 2 hours before finally getting lunch. It was almost 3 PM by then. It was more like a cafe time than lunch. But the lunch and dessert here were fantastic! The wait was worth it. The lunch was a one-plate meal for 1300 yen, with a drink for 1500 yen. I chose lemon squash with pulp, and my companion chose ginger ale. The lemon squash was delicious, and the ginger ale was made with freshly grated ginger, very authentic! The drinks were not compromised in quality. I believe that a restaurant with delicious post-meal drinks is a great place. The lunch was colorful and stylish, and most importantly, delicious! It exceeded the usual cafe level. The food and dessert, which seemed like they were made by a woman, were actually made by a man, which was a pleasant surprise. I added a lemon cake for 300 yen. The lemon cake looked perfect and tasted great, even though it wasn't very sour. It was moist and flavorful. My companion chose a canelé, which he also enjoyed. The lady in charge of serving was young but very pleasant, despite being busy. The restaurant was clean, bright, and had a nice atmosphere. The restroom was also clean, and they were diligent about disinfecting the doorknobs for COVID-19 prevention. My companion had no complaints and praised the place. It might be the best cafe I've been to in Kyoto. The food, cleanliness, atmosphere, and service were all excellent. I initially hesitated between this place and KILIN next door, but I made the right choice with this one. I trusted the high ratings from a reviewer I always refer to, and I was not wrong.

This is Cafe KULM, located about a 1-minute walk from Ohara Bus Stop towards Jakko-in. It is a new restaurant that opened in November last year, and I was not aware of it until now. I visited for the first time during Golden Week. The popular nearby restaurants were full and had long waiting times, so I happened to find this place and decided to give it a try. And it was a big hit! (Although we still had to wait for about 20-30 minutes.) The restaurant has four 2-seater tables and a counter with 6 seats, it is bright and clean with glass walls. It faces a narrow path, so there is quite a bit of foot traffic, but it's not a big issue if you don't mind. (laughs) This time, there were three of us and we ordered the following: Smoked Salmon & Ohara Salad Plate for 1,000 yen - Fresh vegetables with a mild smoked salmon, and the grilled bamboo shoots were a nice touch. Ohara Vegetable and Prosciutto Pizza for 1,300 yen - Plenty of fresh vegetables, balanced well with the prosciutto. Homemade Pizza (4 Cheese and Honey) for 1,000 yen (a la carte) - The cheese had no strong flavor, and the honey added a nice taste. It was much tastier than the pizza from the popular restaurant nearby. Set Drink for 300 yen - Especially recommended is the Kumamoto Fuchinokaiuchi Bontan Soda. Lemon Cake from Nama-guchi Island for 300 yen - Moist and delicious, better than it looks. Cheese Cheesecake like Pudding for 500 yen - Rich cheese flavor, might be delicious even without syrup. You might want to adjust the amount you pour. Everything was delicious. The quality and price are really good. I could sense their culinary sense. The couple who run the place provided excellent hospitality, such as giving us separate plates for sharing and three spoons for dessert. I didn't want to comment because I was afraid it would become too popular and hard to revisit, but it will undoubtedly become the number one restaurant in Ohara in the future even without comments. It may sound like an old woman's concern, but I know of several restaurants that misunderstood their popularity and ended up closing, so it's tough, but I hope they continue to do their best with their current quality and price. If they ever have doubts, I recommend that they read the book by Kazuo Inamori or even my own work for inspiration.

I enjoyed a leisurely lunch at "KULM" while soaking in the natural beauty and fresh air of Ohara. Located next to the popular cafe "KIRIN" along the road leading from Ohara bus stop to Jakko-in Temple, I had a hard time choosing from the tempting menu. Eventually, I decided on the "2 kinds of curry" with Keema curry and Green curry, both made with local vegetables and deliciously authentic. The owner, who trained at an Italian restaurant, clearly knows his stuff. For dessert, I had a pudding-like cheesecake and coffee, brewed meticulously with beans from the famous Uf coffee using a Hario dripper. Sitting by the babbling stream and under the blue sky, I lost track of time and relaxed completely during this lunch experience.
