I was walking from Gion to Sanjo Ohashi when I was drawn in by the inviting atmosphere of this place. Looking at the menu, it seemed like a place that serves udon, soba, and rice bowls. The interior had a nice, traditional feel to it, so I had high hopes. After some deliberation, I ordered the classic Kyoto dish of herring soba, while my wife went for the champon udon. The dishes arrived promptly, and the herring was huge! The broth was delicious, but unfortunately, the noodles lacked firmness. My wife's champon udon was just okay. However, the restaurant kept filling up with locals who all confidently ordered the Chinese soba - that must be their specialty! It all made sense now.

I walked from Kasuga Shrine in Saiin to Sanjo Ohashi. Before watching the Yowatari Shinji at Awata Shrine and the Otoyo Procession, I decided to grab a bite to eat. I found a restaurant called "Chikara Mochi Shokudo" located around the middle of Sanjo Street and Shijo Street on Tabelog. When I entered the restaurant, there were no other customers, and it had a nostalgic atmosphere of the Showa era. I later found out that I entered the restaurant around 3:30 PM, and it closes at 4 PM. I wanted to try a curry dish, so I ordered the "Age Curry Donburi (¥780 including tax)". The dish arrived quickly. The aroma of the Japanese-style curry from the bowl was delightful - the curry was slightly thick and creamy. The fried chicken and green onions blended well with the curry. The taste allows you to enjoy both the savory soba broth and the curry. Young people may not appreciate it, but personally, I found it more delicious than popular restaurants with long lines!

I went again. I like it more than the popular nearby restaurant "O***". The Chinese noodles have a nostalgic taste! The egg bowl is also deliciously gooey! The prices are reasonable, so I will visit again. Lunch in Gion can be tricky. It's a hidden gem!

Once upon a time, there was a soba restaurant. Today, I had ramen and egg rice bowl. The price is cheap, so I'm satisfied with this taste. It's a bit light in flavor, but it would be delicious if the broth was stronger. There are many other restaurants with the same name "Chikara Mochi" but it's not a franchise, right? It's a good option for lunch sometimes, so I will visit again.

My rating for this place is 4.1 for food, 3.8 for service, 4.2 for atmosphere, and 4.0 for value for money. Unfortunately, I have tried to revisit this place multiple times, only to find out it was closed for a regular holiday (Fridays) or temporarily closed. Finally, I saw the "open" sign and decided to go in (there was no curtain). I felt like having Chinese soba today, priced at 690 yen. The interior of the restaurant is still classy, with a heavy atmosphere and traditional decorations. The Chinese soba was served in a special bowl, with a delicious smell. The toppings included bean sprouts, green onions, two slices of char siu, and two slices of kamaboko. Ramen enthusiasts might find this broth a bit plain, but I personally love this kind of Japanese-style Chinese soba. The clear soup, along with the flavorful char siu, added depth to the mild broth. The noodles were slightly soft but not mushy, making it easy to eat. I sometimes struggle to finish the soup, but this time, I was able to drink it all up naturally. The only thing I would point out is that the pepper was already sprinkled on top, which I didn't particularly like. However, it wasn't too much, so it didn't bother me much. Despite the cold weather outside, I felt warm from the inside out after leaving the restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

I'm hooked on the so-called Chinese soba at a place known as an udon shop! This shop is located at the southeast corner of the north entrance of Gion, with a lovely old exterior. Inside, it's quite spacious with only table seating available. There is only one precious two-person table. I ordered the Chinese soba for ¥690. It has a delicious soup similar to salt ramen, appropriate noodles, two types of char siu (pork), bean sprouts, and delightful fish cake. If you're a fan of Chinese soba, be sure to visit this place!

Nostalgic and melancholic, I was drawn to the storefront. I visited a antique shop I had been looking for in a taxi. There are many antique and art shops around here. I was admiring the goods and starting to get hungry. The smell of curry udon hit my nose. Actually, I had been curious about this restaurant while looking for the antique shop. The smell is unmistakable. I entered through the retro door. A Coca-Cola fridge is stylishly placed next to the entrance. It's nice to see a bottle opener there. The main dish, meat curry udon, was exquisite! I finished every drop of the broth. The broth is refreshing, so the balance with the curry was good and I could drink it all. The udon noodles were smooth and had a good texture. It was delicious. I definitely want to visit when I come to Kyoto. The atmosphere around is also very nice. The many traditional townhouses and low buildings create a calming atmosphere. I love Kyoto. Thank you for the meal.

Nawa-te Street and Shimmonguchi Street. This is a calm area where many antique shops gather. I visited "Chikamochi" here for the first time. I entered alone at 1:30. The faint smell of curry immediately tickled my nose. At that point, I decided to order something curry-based. The menu caught my eye, "Katsu Curry Don." Huh? Not just Katsu Curry? I probably haven't tried this before. Alright, I'll go with this. There were two other customers. The Katsu Curry Don arrived quickly. Huh? Wow, it's incredibly delicious. I have tried various curry dishes at places like Sankoubou (Niku Curry Chuka) and Tengu Shokudo (Sukiyaki Curry Don, Fried Meat Curry with Keysoba), and Kyoto's Japanese-style curry is generally of high quality. However, this one made me exclaim in delight. It's a different dish from Katsu Curry. The curry has a rich umami flavor. There's a hint of Japanese spices. And the green onions, they are crucial. The Katsu is surprisingly well-fried. Even when dipped in the thick curry, the moist coating remains intact and can be enjoyed deliciously. I finished every last bite. This kind of experience makes me happy. The presence of the Chikamochi group in Kyoto greatly influences the variety of lunch options available. By the way, they no longer sell rice cakes or ohagi. I have provided the store information, but please be aware that their operations may be a bit relaxed.

I visited this place after a long time and as I passed by the front of the store, the atmosphere felt historical. I immediately entered and the inside of the store also had a very Showa era vibe. The menu consisted of rice bowls, noodles, and alcohol, I believe. I had heard from an acquaintance before that the "Curry Udon" at this store was delicious, but since this was my first visit, I decided to go with the classic "Chuka Soba". I also ordered a beer since I had walked a bit to get there. After a while, they brought me the Chuka Soba. It had chashu, fish cake, bamboo shoots, and a little bit of green onions. The appearance was nostalgic, and the soup had a slight soy sauce color in the chicken broth. When I took a sip, it tasted just right for me. The portion size didn't seem too big, but I'm sure the udon and soba are delicious as well. However, what caught my attention was that the Chuka Soba was priced at 690 yen per bowl, which felt a bit expensive. But since it's close to Gion, maybe it can't be helped.

I parked my car in the parking lot and as I opened the door, I was greeted by the delicious smell of donburi and eggs. As I walked a little further, I caught a whiff of curry... I couldn't resist and walked into the restaurant that caught my eye. Inside, I saw someone enjoying a parent and child donburi, while another person was being served curry udon. I ordered the Woodland Donburi. It was a unique dish with well-seasoned shiitake mushrooms and chopped aburaage topped with eggs. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nostalgic and cozy, with pleasant aromas all around.

I arrived at Shinodaya at 11:45 on May 20, 2018 and it was full, so I ordered the Chicken Curry Bowl for 820 yen here. It was delicious as always with a rich broth. There were no onions in it.
