Yamachan, wearing a skirt, appears and goes on a buying spree for her favorite bread in Kyoto. When she went at 3 pm on a weekday, there were only 3 pieces left of the Carne bread she always buys. So, she also bought 3 pieces of the Pepper Carne, which is always left because it's 10 yen more expensive due to the pepper seasoning. She was told that someone had bought a large quantity earlier in the day, so this was all that was left. A few days ago, it was also featured on TV, so it's a good souvenir. On this day, they even put a cooling pack in the bag, probably because it was too hot. Since it needs to be refrigerated, it's better to have a cooling bag if you're buying it as a souvenir. The store in Gion often sells out by early afternoon due to the high foot traffic, so if you want to make sure to get some, the store in Sanjo is recommended as they always have it even in the evening. Carne can be considered a specialty of Kyoto and it's incredibly delicious.

Gion branch of Shitsuya. The store is smaller than usual, with fewer menu options. You can dine in the store, but seating is limited, so it's more of a place to stop by for a quick break or to take out food to enjoy at home, in a hotel, or outdoors if the weather is nice. However, Shitsuya is still Shitsuya. The carne and pepper carne are still delicious. The ingredients are simple, but the faint aroma of margarine and the chewiness of the soft French bread are perfect.

On this day, I went directly to Kyoto for some errands. Let's have breakfast at Shizuya Gion store. I picked a Poteta Mix Sandwich (half) from the display for 300 yen, then ordered an iced coffee for 380 yen at the register and paid. After receiving the coffee, I took it to my table. The sandwich was quite thick and a bit difficult to eat for someone with a small mouth, but it was delicious! The iced coffee was also good. Thank you for the meal!

The final meal of my Kyoto trip was at the local gourmet spot "Shitsuya" and I tried their Kyoto Karne (ㅅ´꒳` )♪*゚ After admiring the majestic view of Nanzenji Temple and the mysterious atmosphere of Suirokaku, we had a light lunch. This was my first time here, but I visited based on recommendations from others. Loved by the people of Kyoto, their simple sandwich I♥U was delicious! Simple is best, even though it's just ham and onions, the lightly roasted bread was crispy and fluffy. Despite its simplicity, it was so tasty! Even if you're not from Kyoto, you'll love it. I will definitely come back next time ❤︎.*❤︎.*❤︎.*

I visited a traditional local bakery for breakfast. When I was young in Kansai, I used to eat their bread with restraint, but this time, after many years, I indulged in their classic sandwiches and cream puffs. It felt like my long-held desires were finally fulfilled, and I am satisfied ☺️

In Kyoto, there is a well-known bakery called Shizuya. They have a store in Gion in front of Yasaka Shrine, and I always buy their bread for the Shinkansen. You can also buy their bread at Kyoto Station, but if they're sold out, you'll regret it, so it's worth carrying the extra weight to make sure you get some. The must-try item is the "Carne," which is a soft French bread filled with thinly sliced boneless ham and onions. The original Carne is a soft bread with a salty ham and crunchy sliced onions, all enhanced by the margarine spread on the bread. It's so simple but incredibly addictive. I devoured it in no time. This is the ultimate "simple is the best" bread. I bet it would be even better toasted, but I couldn't wait. Next time, I'll definitely bring some home. In addition to the Carne, their beef cutlet sandwich is also a standout item. It's a thick sandwich with two layers of meat in a sweet and tangy sauce. As expected, it's delicious. It's always a struggle at bakeries like Shizuya because there are so many tempting options. I couldn't resist trying the cream-filled bread and the Hokkaido melon bread. The melon bread was snatched by a child, so I had to settle for the cream-filled one. And it truly lived up to its name with a generous amount of cream inside. Each item was delicious. I have vowed to always bring home some of Shizuya's bread on my next visit. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I spotted a sandwich that looked like a makunouchi bento and bought it without hesitation. It contained egg, tonkatsu, beef cutlet, egg salad, boneless ham, cucumber, and tomato sandwiched together. The cutlets were topped with miso sauce. It was a luxurious makunouchi bento.

This is a review of a bakery chain located at the corner of Gion intersection in Kyoto, known as the soul food of Kyoto residents. I visited this bakery at the beginning of a two-day Kyoto trip and again before returning to Tokyo on the second day. I purchased the special Carne margarine that had been on my mind for a year. This margarine, manufactured by Adeka Co., Ltd. in Arakawa-ku, Tokyo, is said to be the key to the taste of Carne. I discovered it a year ago but it was too heavy at 500g so I gave up at that time. Later, I regretted not buying it. This time, I decided to get it as a revenge, purchasing one margarine for 900 yen and one Carne for 230 yen. The product name has been changed to "Kyokarune" and there is also a "Pepper Carne" available. I ate the Carne, now called Kyokarune, on the Shinkansen ride back home. The combination of fluffy bread, crispy onions, and light salted boneless ham was exquisite, all held together by the margarine. I wanted to recreate that taste memory before it faded, but surprisingly, I couldn't find a similar bread. The original is a soft French bread modeled after a German bread called Kaiser Semmel, but I prefer a round bread that matches the shape of the ham. I found a bread called "Ako Roll" at Tokyu Food Station Mini in Jiyugaoka, made by a Danish bakery. The ham used was a bulk package of Shinshu ham. I sliced the onions at home and made it for the first time, and it turned out quite tasty. Using the same margarine is the key to the level of reproduction. Since I still have plenty of margarine left, I want to try other menu variations including Pepper Carne. Finding the right bread to go with it is also a challenge. PS. I used this margarine to make a regular sandwich later on. It was delicious, but the taste of the margarine seemed to get lost among the various ingredients. Simple combinations like ham and onions seem to work best.

On this day of the weekend, I went to Kyoto for a one-night, two-day trip mainly to visit a grave. I arrived by Shinkansen around 11:30 AM, and it felt like the tourists, including inbound visitors, had all returned to Kyoto after a year. After dropping off my luggage at the hotel in front of Yasaka Shrine in Gion, I decided to have lunch. Since popular tourist spots can be unpredictable, I decided to visit this bakery chain located at the corner of the Gion intersection, known for its sandwiches filled with ham and onions like Carne and beef cutlet sandwiches. It was around 12:20 PM, and despite the prime location right in front of Yasaka Shrine, there were only 2-3 people in the small seating area at the back, who seemed to be locals. I picked up the "Shin-Shizuya's Makunouchi Sandwich" for myself for 630 yen and a cream puff for my friend, which they said was delicious even when warmed up, for 210 yen. I also bought an iced coffee for 380 yen and an orange juice for 460 yen at the counter and took a seat. The Makunouchi Sandwich consisted of omelet, beef cutlet, tonkatsu, vegetables, and egg salad, each in a slice. The omelet and beef cutlet were delicious, as I had tried them several times before. While Kagurazaka had Madrag and Inoda Coffee was famous for beef cutlet sandwiches, this place's sandwiches were quite tasty considering the price. The other three items I tried for the first time were also good. The slightly higher prices for drinks were a bit of a downside, but choosing this place was the right decision as I was able to have a quick lunch. My friend also mentioned that the cream puff was very delicious. The next day, after checking out of the hotel, I visited this store again to purchase the famous Carne and margarine for Carne. I will report on that in a separate review later.

I had passed by it countless times without noticing, but finally decided to check out this bakery that I had been seeing on Instagram. And let me tell you, it was seriously amazing! The carne! What is this? It's so good! I kept saying that as I devoured it in an instant! And then I was drawn to the triangular cream bun! What? Huh? This is insane! I couldn't stop exclaiming as I finished it in a flash! I also polished off an egg sandwich, and took out a triangular cream bun and a bun shaped like a coppe bread. I drank two cafe lattes within less than 30 minutes! Why doesn't Tokyo have this? Why won't they expand to Tokyo? I seriously can't stop thinking about it. I want to eat it every day! A former bread hater has miraculously transformed into a bread lover in an instant! When I visit Kyoto, I will definitely go there! I will definitely get takeout! Ah, I want to eat it right now! Please open a store in Tokyo! This is my earnest wish.

Before going to Kyoto, we were talking about how Kyoto is famous for its thick omelette sandwiches, and we remembered buying them from Shizuya last time. We didn't plan to visit the store this time, but we stumbled upon one near Yasaka Shrine and decided to buy some. Shizuya has multiple locations, but this was the only one we encountered during our trip, so we were glad we bought some. We also tried Kyoto Karune for the first time, and even though we ate it back in Hiroshima, it was a nostalgic and delicious taste. It's surprising that these kinds of sandwiches are not widely available. The simple and satisfying flavors were enjoyable. Kyoto really has a strong bread culture.

140th bakery♡ I visited because I wanted to try the Kyoto soul food called "Karne" that I saw on TV. When I went, there were many Karne options. When I tried to buy some on my way back, it was the last one. I was lucky! (´∇`♥)♡♡ - Cream Pan (plenty of cream) 210 yen - Kyoto Karne 230 yen - Pepper Karne 240 yen - Shizuya Beef Curry Pan 220 yen - Gyoza Pan 240 yen - Domestic Crush Cheese 260 yen The Cream Pan, although it doesn't look that special (sorry), was fluffy and the custard cream was so smooth and sweet like a dessert. Shizuya is not new to me, but the Karne was my first time trying. The seasoning is just margarine spread on the bread. It's a sandwich with ham and spicy sliced onions, which I really liked. I want to buy more next time I go to Kyoto!

It's the second day of my trip to Kyoto, but since I arrived last night, today feels more like the first day. However, I'm not feeling well. I only had two cans of beer on the Shinkansen (350ml each) and three cups of sake at an izakaya, but I didn't expect to feel this off... I'm not so much tired as my stomach isn't feeling great, so I have no appetite. Still, I feel like I should eat something, so I decided to have breakfast at a café. Since I happened to be near Gion, I chose a café I liked before and was drawn to it naturally. I didn't have much of an appetite, so I went for the breakfast set with raisin toast and tea. The raisin toast was simple but tasty. I just needed to eat something, so I didn't really take the time to savor the flavor. I had a boiled egg, finished my tea, and then headed off to my next destination. Next time, I hope to enjoy some katsu or curry after making sure I'm feeling better.

I brought home some bread from "Sizuya Gion Shijo Store" located at the ticket gate street of Keihan Gion Shijo Station. Although there are many stores in Kyoto, this popular bakery can only be found at Hirakata Station in Osaka. I bought a bunch of Carne bread that I had tried before and found delicious. Carne (230 yen including tax) is a bread with a crispy outer layer and a soft hard bread texture. Inside, there is ham, onion, and margarine sandwiched, making it simple but delicious. The slight bitterness of the onion surprisingly goes well with it. The homemade margarine is also superb! Since the expiration date was on the same day, I devoured it all at once.

In the morning, after visiting the Hachiman Shrine, I wanted to have a meal at a cafe, but it seemed that none of them were open in the 8 o'clock hour. I ended up going into the only open bakery. They recommended something called "Danish Pepper Carne," so I ordered that along with a sandwich. Carne seems to be a sandwich with ham and sliced onions inside the bread. It didn't seem particularly new or exciting, but it turned out to be surprisingly delicious. It was cheap but had a flavor that was addictive. I might want to buy it again.

I bought an omelette sandwich and a karinto manju. They are available at the station, so I couldn't resist stopping by. The most popular item is the cream bread. I tried it on a different day and the custard with a subtle sweetness was to my liking. The omelette sandwich I bought that day had a strong egg flavor. I was expecting a taste similar to a rolled omelette, so I was slightly disappointed. (It was my mistake for thinking it was a rolled omelette sandwich...) I was happy that I could pay with PayPay. I'm curious about the other bread options.

Carne is definitely good, but... the cream is incredibly delicious. A large amount of cream is truly tasty. The egg sandwich is also delicious, but these two are the top contenders. I haven't tried the new items yet, but I always buy them. I'm always trying out new things. It was delicious!

I stayed at APA Hotel Gion and enjoyed the night in Gion yesterday. For breakfast, I usually search for a nearby bakery to eat, so I searched on Tabelog for "current location" and "bread", and found several good-looking bakeries, but all of them open at 10:00! So I searched for the closest bakery and found this bakery here. Well, I decided to go check it out. It was a 2-minute walk from the hotel, right across from Yasaka Shrine - a perfect location. The storefront sign was promoting "Kyoto Karune" and "Danish Karune" - I had never heard of "Karune" before. Anyway, when I entered the bakery, they had four different kinds of "Karune" available, claiming it to be the "Soul Food of Kyoto!" So, I decided to buy one. I thought of getting the normal one, but I wanted something with a little punch, so I bought this one: "Pepper Karune" for 240 yen. I also bought a "Mixed Sandwich (Beef Cutlet, Omelette)" for 590 yen. It turned out to be a Beef Cutlet Sandwich instead of a Pork Cutlet Sandwich, and an Omelette instead of a Rolled Omelette - quite unique. There were other options, but I decided to stick with these for this morning. When I returned to the hotel, I bought a coffee from the Starbucks Coffee on the first floor of APA Hotel, took it to my room, and remembered that "Karune" is best warmed up in the microwave. So, I used the microwave on the same floor and warmed it up for about 20 seconds. It became soft and warm. I started with the "Pepper Karune" that I had just warmed up. When I bit into it, the bread was soft and delicious - I could see why it's so popular. It truly is the soul food of Kyoto! Maybe I should have bought the basic "Kyoto Karune" as well? Next time, I'll try some other varieties. Next, I tried the Beef Cutlet Sandwich. Personally, I prefer the Pork Cutlet Sandwich. Then I tried the Omelette Sandwich. I was expecting something like the Dashimaki Sandwich from Komatsu's "Asagao" or Osaka's "Futaki," but it was different. It didn't have dashi and wasn't sweet. I remembered that it was called an "Omelette Sandwich." I felt a bit unsatisfied after eating it. I think I understand why it's called the soul food of Kyoto now! It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I love Carne so much. Whenever I go to Kyoto, I always make sure to buy some. There are quite a few stores in Kyoto, so it's convenient to purchase. I feel like the flavor increases when I toast it lightly in a toaster. I always buy some to eat on the spot and bring some home as well. It's a favorite of my family.

I went to Shitsuya to buy some carnes. When I try to buy them at Kyoto Station, they are often sold out, so if I come this far, I will buy them here. It's not something extravagant enough to come all the way to Kyoto to buy, but it's a classic taste that is delicious when you eat it. It's a simple and delicious sandwich made with a slightly firm round French bread used for Kaiser sandwiches, with ham and onions sandwiched in between. It also had margarine spread on it to keep it warm. It's so tasty that you can eat as much as you want because the balance of ingredients and bread is perfect. Today, the classic carnes were sold out, so I bought the pepper carnes with a hint of pepper and the cheese carnes with sliced cheese. They were delicious in their own way. I also bought a beef sandwich as a souvenir. They all lived up to my expectations and I am satisfied.
