酒恋
It was around the middle of July when I searched various travel sites on Jalan. Jalan is great - they sometimes give exclusive points as gifts. This time, I received 1000 points, so I immediately searched for a place to use them. I found a place called "Shuhoenkaku" located a 5-minute walk from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station in Kyoto. Surprisingly, even though it was during the Obon festival, they had a summer sale on Jalan where I could stay with 1 night and 2 meals included for only 10,000 yen per person (tax included). The reviews were good, the meals looked luxurious, and they offered free private baths, late-night snacks, colorful yukatas, and samue. As a special offer, we could choose between grilled Wagyu beef or a drink during dinner. Plus, the transportation cost within Kyoto city was less than 1000 yen one way! There must be some nice places for daytime drinking within walking distance too. So, I made a reservation right away! Of course, I also used the 1000 points gift for a reservation for two people, totaling 19,000 yen. On the day of the trip, we started with daytime drinking, of course. We got off at Gion-Shijo Station, one stop before Kiyomizu-Gojo Station, and walked a few minutes to "Hyakuren" where we had booked, and also found "Wine Izakaya" for a light lunch and daytime drinks. I will write about these places later. We checked in at Hotel Shuhoenkaku before 3 pm. It was about a 15-minute walk from Kawaramachi. The reason we checked in before 3 pm was that the private bath reservations started on a first-come, first-served basis from 3 pm. We were the second group, and we wanted to use the bath from 4 pm or 5 pm, but there were many people that day, so we ended up with a slot from 3:20 pm to 4 pm. We had to hurry! We went straight to the room, but the washlet was broken - the bidet function didn't work. We immediately contacted the front desk, and they came to check and repair it. While waiting for the repair, we were able to go to the private bath, so it worked out well. The bath was quite warm, so we had to add hot water, but it was nice with a wooden bath and tatami floor. When we returned the key to the private bath, the toilet had been repaired (the bidet was fixed). It was a bit of a hassle, so we immediately went to the nearby convenience store in our slippers to buy canned beer and wine. The staff said it was okay to go out in slippers for that. The room also had an empty fridge, which was very convenient! It could fit about 20 cans of beer. The room also had its own bath, and it was spacious with 12 tatami mats and 4 tatami mats. The view from the window was not great, just a bunch of mixed buildings, but the room itself was nice. We enjoyed evening drinks with canned beer and red wine, and at 6 pm, it was time for dinner. The inn did not offer in-room dining, so we headed to the dining area. There were about 5 table seats in the tatami room, perfect for my friend who didn't like sitting on the floor. Some dishes were already laid out on the table, and we immediately ordered the special drink. However, to our surprise, they said one medium bottle of beer was for two people. If we had known, we would have ordered one Wagyu beef teppanyaki (50g) per person instead. So, I asked if we could change the special offer from a drink to Wagyu beef teppanyaki, and they kindly allowed it. A regular medium bottle of beer was 500 yen (tax included), while the Wagyu beef teppanyaki (50g) was listed on the menu for 1500 yen, so it was definitely a better deal. We ordered the regular medium bottle of beer and toasted. Then, nine dishes were served for us to enjoy various appetizers. Next, a sashimi platter with three kinds of fish was served!
