ULUA
Today, I went on a drive from Kyotango Town to Nantan City to Kameoka in Kyoto Prefecture. During lunchtime, I searched on Tabelog for a restaurant in Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture, using the keyword "tonkatsu" and found this restaurant, Katsuichi. The restaurant has a parking lot next to it with plenty of spaces. There are posters all over the place with the owner's words: "Restaurants like this are either really delicious or really bad." Since the restaurant was full of customers during lunchtime, I assumed it was delicious and gave it a score of 1000 points! From the menu, I ordered the Rosu Katsu set (180g) and also the Hire Katsu (120g) as a single item. A small pot with dressing and sauce, along with a sesame mortar, was brought to the table. The sound of the tonkatsu frying in the kitchen was pleasant, and when it was ready, it arrived. The set meal included cabbage, tonkatsu, rice, miso soup, and pickles. The cabbage had a topping of salted kelp. There was only one type of sauce. I poured the sauce into the sesame mortar and dipped a piece of Rosu Katsu in it. As soon as I took a bite, it was like a dream! The well-seasoned meat, the umami of the pork, a hint of sweetness spreading in the mouth, and finally, the sauce wrapping it all up. Unlike the tonkatsu that relies heavily on the taste of the sauce, this one had a distinct flavor, making me question if I even needed the sauce. I tried the second piece without sauce and it was delicious! Next, I tried the Hire Katsu, which was tender and flavorful, but I still preferred the Rosu Katsu at Katsuichi. When I crave tonkatsu, I usually go to the chain restaurants with yellow signs, but finding a tonkatsu that can be enjoyed without relying on the sauce made me feel very happy. "It was so delicious!" It took me 2 hours to get there from home, but I will definitely come back again. "Thank you for the meal!" "Yum!"
