In Kyoto, there used to be a bakery called Seikodo where they sold deep-fried bread with curry-flavored fish sausage. I remember the sausage being coated with curry paste. Nowadays, you can find many variations of this, with the bread being yellow and curry-flavored. I recently came across a bread labeled "New Bird" at a shop and bought it out of nostalgia. It tasted decent, but I no longer find the sausage appealing. I believe I saw Seikodo's sign around 10 years ago, but I wonder if the bakery still exists today. (It seems they went out of business around 2000.)

On May 23, 2019 (Thursday) from before 12:15 pm, I had been passing by Otemegane Shopping Street during lunchtime and saw a panel with a picture of a delicious-looking katsu sandwich in front of a shop. I thought to myself, "I want to try it once." I didn't particularly feel like eating anything that day, so I decided to visit "Shizuya Otemegane Store" to have the katsu sandwich. When I entered the shop through the automatic door at the entrance, I noticed a staircase leading to the second floor on the right. The panel outside mentioned that the eat-in space was on the second floor, so I went up the stairs without hesitation. However, a staff member stopped me from going up and instructed me to first place my order at the counter on the first floor before heading up to the second floor. I followed the instructions and ordered the "Special Beef Katsu Sandwich Set" for 880 yen (tax included) with iced coffee as the drink. Upstairs, there were about 7-8 tables for two people each and a sofa table for four people by the window. There were also a microwave and a water dispenser in the back. I waited for about 7 minutes before my order was served. The "Special Beef Katsu Sandwich" looked just like the picture on the panel. The katsu was crispy and freshly fried, with a nice thickness and a good amount of fat, making it delicious. It was sandwiched with what seemed to be green leaf lettuce and sliced cheese. The bread was lighter than I had imagined, but I was satisfied with the overall taste. The iced coffee was average. While I thought the price of 880 yen was a bit high, considering the freshly fried katsu sandwich with decent volume, it seemed reasonable. I also realized that buying bread from the first floor and eating it on the second floor could make for a more affordable lunch next time.
