I was already full, but I couldn't leave without eating the Isotome. So, I bought just one rice ball and planned to eat while walking. However, they also gave us two cups of tea on top of that. The freshly made rice ball was slightly warm and incredibly delicious! I couldn't resist adding some rice crackers as a snack. Thank you for the generous hospitality.

I went to Shibamata and bought Shibamata mochi at Takagiya, an established shop. You can eat it on the spot, but since I had already eaten grass dango, I bought packaged ones to eat at home. They look like grilled mochi with a nice sear on the outside. The mochi is made with mugwort, giving it a nice green color. The outside is firm while the inside is chewy. It goes well with the red bean paste filling, making it a delicious grass daifuku. I would like to try it freshly made next time.

Yoshinoya's Ladder from Yoshinoya, haha. Speaking of Yoshinoya, it's not the beef bowl, but the popular grass dumpling shop nearby. Since I came to Shibamata, I definitely wanted to compare them. This is a relatively large store and stands out. There were various items on the menu, but this time I decided to go with the grass dumplings without hesitation. The sign also says "Famous Grass Dumplings."
Ordered Items:
- Grass Dumplings: 200 yen
The dumplings were soft and chewy with a refreshing scent of mugwort. They were easier to eat compared to Yoshinoya and had a more common taste. The sweet bean paste was not too sweet, and when combined with the dumplings, it created a great balance. I had Yoshinoya earlier, so it wasn't as impactful, but it was delicious. It's interesting how different each shop is. If I had an endless stomach, I would like to try comparing all the stores someday. I was able to pay with PayPay. Thank you for the meal!

I wanted to try the skewered dumplings in the shop, so I ordered the "Iso Otome" with seaweed. They also served warm green tea in a pot. In addition, I ordered a cold matcha as a side. The glass teacup looked cool and refreshing... but when I think about it, it's already autumn, isn't it? It seems like autumn is coming late this year.

There was a peaceful atmosphere in Shibamata, relatively unaffected by the current tourism fever. It was a Friday morning, so all the shops around were empty. The interior of the shops had a traditional and nostalgic feel, like a time warp back to the past. I tried the Kusa Dango, which was chewy and had a perfect balance of sweetness in the red bean paste filling. The tea was also delicious. Although I was just passing through on my travels, I thought it would be nice to relax here and enjoy a cup of tea.

The shop selected as one of the top 100 shops is right in front of me. The shopping street is full of grass dumplings. I bought a pack of 12 for 800 yen. The grass dumplings I made that day were delicious. I understand the connection to Tora-san, but if asked if this place is particularly delicious based on taste alone... If you blindfolded someone and had them try the grass dumplings, they probably wouldn't be able to tell. It would be better to make this shopping street into a top 100 shop.

Arrived around 10:30 on Sunday morning. No wait, bought some grass dumplings that could be purchased individually, and when I said I would eat them while sitting on the chair there, they brought out cold tea on a small tray. The dumplings were just one bite or two bites for a woman, but they were delicious and I could enjoy the atmosphere of this town. Thank you for the meal ^ ^ I will definitely come back when I'm in this area!

Famous for its traditional Japanese sweets and desserts, this shop is a popular filming location for movies other than the Tora-san series. It is known for its grass dumplings and shaved ice. It is a landmark in Shibamata and a must-visit spot for tourists. On a clear autumn Sunday around 11 am, I easily entered the café space and ordered the dumpling set for 700 yen. It came with a tea pot, and the seaweed soy sauce dumplings called "Iso Otome" were excellent. The dumplings were delicious, and sipping tea made me appreciate the essence of this place as a Japanese person. It felt calming and soothing. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the famous traditional Japanese sweets shop "Takagiya" located a 3-minute walk from Shibamata Station. It is a must-visit place on the approach to the Tenso Shrine. I went on a weekday before 2 pm to avoid the long lines I encountered on a previous Sunday visit. I ordered the Mitarashi dango set for 700 yen and a matcha (ice) for 500 yen. The dango set included grass dango, grilled dango, and Iso Otome. The grass dango had a perfect balance of sweetness from the red bean paste and bitterness from the grass, making it delicious. The grilled dango had a sweet and savory flavor, highlighting the chewy texture of the dango. The Iso Otome was like a savory pancake and was very tasty. I enjoyed every bite, including the matcha, until the end.

Founded in 1868, this restaurant serves a specialty called "Kusa Dango," which is a chewy and slightly sweet rice cake with a hint of mugwort flavor. The restaurant is the model of the protagonist's family home, Toraya, in the movie series. The interior has a nostalgic charm from the Meiji and Taisho eras, and there are many exhibits and signatures related to actors like Aomi and directors like Yamada Yoji. The restaurant has a sit-in area and a take-out section, with the former located on the left side facing the Shibamata Taishakuten temple. In addition to Kusa Dango, their oden is also popular. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the past.

Along the approach to Shibamata Taishakuten, there is a long-established traditional Japanese sweet shop famous for its grass dumplings. Across the approach, there is a souvenir shop for takeout only, and a tea house where you can dine in, which is said to be the model for Tora-san's family home in the popular Showa-era movie series "Otoko wa Tsurai yo." Inside the shop, you can find valuable black and white photos of Atsumi Kiyoshi and director Yamada Yoji, allowing you to feel the atmosphere of the Showa era while enjoying the famous dumplings. The dumplings come with hot tea, but you can also enjoy cold tea, beer, and other sweets such as oden and chameshi. In the summer, they also serve shaved ice. This time, I tried the "Dango Set" which allows you to enjoy three different types of dumplings. The grass dumplings were generously topped with sweet bean paste, making it difficult to rotate on the skewer (laughs). The mitarashi dango had a slightly spicy taste, suitable for adults. The ambiance here is great, so I recommend relaxing in the tea house rather than getting takeout.

After many years, I am eating a set of dango at Kashiwa Shiba-mata Takagiya. The set includes soft dango with sweet and savory mitarashi sauce, dango with a fragrant mugwort flavor, and seaweed-covered dango with soy sauce base. I am enjoying the dango while drinking tea. After visiting the Tenmangu Shrine and buying souvenirs for my family (mugwort dango), I am reminiscing about my childhood visits to the shrine. Delicious! Full of memories! I will definitely come back!

I arrived at Shibamata Station on Thursday around 9:30 in the morning, and from there, it took less than 5 minutes to walk to the Taishakuten Sando. As soon as I entered the Sando, I saw Takagiya, a long-established shop on the right. The shop was already open, but I decided to first visit the Taishakuten Shrine and then the Katsushika Shibamata Tora-san Memorial Hall before returning to the shop around 11 o'clock. Initially, I planned to only buy the famous grass dumplings, but the Iso Otome next to it also looked delicious, so I bought that as well. After walking to Kameari, I enjoyed tsukemen at Tsukemen Michi before returning home in the evening to savor both types of dumplings. The grass dumplings had a refreshing mugwort flavor that paired well with the sweet red bean paste. The Iso Otome, with shredded seaweed, was a perfect match for the soy sauce dressing.

【Store Name】Takagiya Osho
【Order】Grass Dango
【Impression】The grass dango at Takagiya Osho truly reminded me of the dumpling shop from the Tora-san movies. It felt like I had slipped into the world of the film, with a sense of nostalgia and warmth washing over me. The dango had a chewy texture with sweet red bean paste inside. As I savored the dumplings, memories of iconic movie scenes flooded back, creating a heartwarming experience.
【Staff】The staff at Takagiya Osho exuded warm hospitality. They treated each customer with care and greeted them with smiles. This welcoming atmosphere made the dining experience even more special.
【Location・Access】Takagiya Osho is conveniently located near Shibamata Station, making it a perfect stop for tourists. Surrounded by historic scenery, you can enjoy a luxurious moment savoring delicious grass dango.

【Visit Background】My wife wanted to use expiring Jalan points to visit the Katsushika Shibamata Torasan Memorial Hall, so we enjoyed sightseeing in Shibamata and had dinner at "Kawasenke" before stopping by "Takagiya Rousho" for takeout on our way back. It's worth noting that "Takagiya Rousho" is said to be the model for Torasan's family's dumpling shop in the Tora-san series, while the model for the building is "Kameya Honpo."
【Takeout】
- Assorted rice cracker set (soy sauce, seaweed, chili pepper, sesame, shrimp, sugar)
- Individual rice cracker (salt)
【Impressions】
For those who want to enjoy all the rice cracker varieties, I recommend getting both the "Assorted rice cracker set" and the "Individual rice cracker (salt)" to try them all out!

The atmosphere of the shop, the customer service of the staff, and the taste were all so good... Although I am not from the same generation as Tora-san, I don't know much about it, but I entered this shop because of the large number of signs on the way back from visiting the Empress Shrine. I was surprised to see the young faces of actors whose names I know. The staff saw me sweating and immediately brought me a glass of water, they were really kind and wonderful. As you can see in the photo, the anmitsu and kusa dango were both delicious!
juck.

I had water manju with sweet bean paste and Shibamata mochi. The water manju had an average level of sweetness for a traditional Japanese sweet, but I would recommend it for those who have never tried it before, especially in the summer. Its refreshing taste is perfect for hot weather. The Shibamata mochi had a firm texture and a gentle sweetness that was reminiscent of a mother's love. The red bean paste was delicious, and the mugwort added an extra layer of flavor that was truly delightful. It had been a while since I last visited, but this place is really nice. As a fan of Japanese sweets, I want to cherish this shop.

After visiting Shibamata Taishakuten, I felt like having something sweet so I ordered at the counter before taking my seat. I decided to take the grass dumplings as a souvenir, so I ordered anmitsu. When I sat down, I was served Japanese tea with a teapot, and I enjoyed a relaxing time until the anmitsu arrived. The view from the table towards the entrance was nostalgic and comforting, creating a unique atmosphere that made me feel at ease. However, the direction seemed a bit confusing as it was opposite to what I had imagined from movies. Nevertheless, I arrived at the anmitsu. The anmitsu looked simple but the balance between the sweet bean paste and salty beans, along with the chewy agar and black syrup, provided a delicious and soothing experience. There were many foreign tourists as well, which made me happy to see how popular Tora-san is worldwide. It had been a while since my last visit, but the special atmosphere and scenery of the approach made me decide to come more regularly, reminiscing about Tora-san. Katsushika Shibamata Takagiya is a long-established shop. Bravo!

I visited the Taishakuten Temple after a long time. I used to work at the souvenir street here in the past, it feels nostalgic. I stopped by this shop for a break to replenish my fluids and sugar. I paid at the entrance and went to the seating area at the back. Of course, when you come here, you have to try the grass dumplings. And since it suddenly became hot like a summer day, I chose Ramune. The staff opened the Ramune in front of me and shared some trivia. Apparently, Ramune in a glass bottle from top to bottom is only available in Shibamata. There are no craftsmen making glass bottles anymore. The glass supposedly makes it go down smoother (lol). The soft, lightly sweet grass dumplings and the nostalgic Ramune. A refreshing drink to relax with! I also learned that Tora-san used to film movies here in the past. It's a historic town, and although it was a short break, I feel refreshed. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the store around 9:30, shortly after it opened, so I was the only customer. The spacious store has tatami seating and is filled with photos of the actor who plays Torasan. There were mixed opinions on the grass dumplings, so I tried the kuzumochi instead. It was delicious, with plenty of black honey on top. I had a relaxing time in the spacious store.
