"I never would have thought to turn it into ice cream." That was my surprise when I found the ice cream bars with fresh Yatsuhashi inside at this store. When it comes to Yatsuhashi in the summer, I have seen the traditional Yatsuhashi wrapped in a mochi-like dough and chilled to eat at other specialty Yatsuhashi shops. However, on this day in August, I discovered a different summer treat at the "Seigoin Yatsuhashi Main Store Kumano Branch" that I visited. What I tried this time was the "8 Ice Bar," an ice cream bar with pieces of fresh Yatsuhashi inside. This product was created in collaboration with "Cricket," a famous jelly shop near the Golden Pavilion, using the leftover Yatsuhashi dough that was previously discarded during the Yatsuhashi production process. The flavors available are Cinnamon, Caramel, and Matcha, and I chose the Cinnamon flavor to enjoy in the simple eat-in space at the store. The ice cream bar had a texture and flavor reminiscent of Yatsuhashi, with a mix of coldness and the taste of Yatsuhashi, perfectly complemented by the apple pieces included (note: apples are also included in the Caramel flavor). The "8 Ice Bar" is currently only available at the Kumano Branch and Inari Branch, with no dry ice service or online ordering. If you are interested, be sure to visit the store to experience a new way of enjoying Yatsuhashi.

Recommended store for leisurely enjoying and purchasing Yatsuhashi in Kyoto. The store was spacious and empty, with no other customers before 5 pm on weekends. The layout of the store made it easy to see the products. [Purchased item]: Mini-sized fresh Yatsuhashi (Matcha) for ¥270. I found information on Twitter that putting Yatsuhashi without filling on ice cream is delicious. I decided to buy Yatsuhashi for the first time in about ten years. After returning home, I tried it. It was indeed delicious! I might prefer it over Yatsuhashi with filling. It goes well with vanilla ice cream. It's cheap, and I think I will definitely buy it again. Thank you for the meal!

I was in the Sakyo-ku area of Kyoto today and happened to come across a shop selling Yatsuhashi, so I decided to stop by. Seigoin Yatsuhashi Sohonten is a long-established Yatsuhashi shop founded in 1689. They had various types of Yatsuhashi displayed, including fresh Yatsuhashi. According to the staff, Yatsuhashi came first, followed by the creation of fresh Yatsuhashi. They also had limited edition Yatsuhashi with pictures on the surface for sale. I purchased the limited edition Yatsuhashi and headed home. The Yatsuhashi featured illustrations of the half-human, half-fish monster "Amabie" believed to ward off epidemics, and the "Yogen no Tori" which predicted epidemics and offered protection from them. The Yatsuhashi came in packs of three pieces each, with six packs in a cylindrical container. The cute illustrations caught my eye! I tried one and found it to have a crispy texture like senbei with a hint of cinnamon flavor. It was nostalgic and delicious. It's nice to try something different once in a while!

Kyoto's famous confectionery, Yatsuhashi ♡ Located at the corner of Higashioji-dori and Marutamachi-dori. There is also a main store nearby, but it's easy to stop by this store on the way to the art museum. Located at the intersection corner, it is bright and easy to enter. Yatsuhashi is a famous Kyoto confectionery, but personally, I prefer the crispy type that is baked rather than the soft type wrapped in a triangle with sweet bean paste. For those who don't like sweet things, I recommend the crispy type. There are many flavors available, but my favorite is the coffee flavor ♡ The bitterness of the coffee and the sweetness of the Yatsuhashi go well together, and it's my favorite. They also sell beans from Mizusei, so I bought some as well (laughs). Wasabi-flavored crispy beans. Crunchy and spicy ♡ This was also delicious. Thank you for the meal! ・Kyoto Machikado 432 yen ・Small bag 270 yen Total 702 yen

Located at the corner of Higashioji-dori Street and Marutamachi-dori Street, this shop has two entrances. Just like the main store I visited last time, the atmosphere here is charming and the interior is spacious and comfortable. The staff are elegant and very friendly. They offer a wide variety of Hachihashi sweets, including regular ones, ones with sweet bean paste, and crispy ones, as well as seasonal items. This time, I bought a coffee-flavored product in a smaller size for 270 yen. The unique taste of Hachihashi and coffee blend together perfectly. I actually prefer it over the regular flavor. The bitterness of the coffee is also noticeable, making it so delicious that I want to buy it every time. The smaller size is perfect for casually sharing with friends, which I also like. Thank you for the delicious treat!

I bought some souvenirs before returning to Kagawa, the Udon prefecture, after finishing my errands in Kyoto. There are several famous traditional Japanese sweets in Kyoto, and one of them is Yatsuhashi. I had someone specific in mind who wanted Yatsuhashi from a designated shop, so I went to buy it. I bought regular Yatsuhashi and fresh Yatsuhashi for myself. When I opened the package, the scent of cinnamon was delightful. I enjoyed the Yatsuhashi as a snack over a few days. Since it was a bit hard, I broke it into pieces before opening the package and ate the broken pieces. The fresh Yatsuhashi was also delicious. It was called "Koto no Aki" from the Seigoin Yatsuhashi main store, and it was filled with red bean paste wrapped in a dough flavored with cinnamon and matcha. The moist texture of the dough was pleasant, and the red bean paste had just the right amount of sweetness. My partner particularly liked the matcha-flavored fresh Yatsuhashi and asked me to buy it again. When I delivered the designated Yatsuhashi to the person who requested it, they were very happy. It was expected since it was the specific Yatsuhashi they wanted, but it still made me happy to see their joy. My partner also enjoyed the fresh Yatsuhashi I bought for home, so it was worth the detour to buy them. - Hiraizumi: Seigoin Yatsuhashi Main Store - Traditional Japanese Cuisine - *Note: This content can only be viewed on a PC.

One of the most popular souvenirs from Kyoto is "Nama Yatsuhashi", but I found it a bit difficult to distribute as a gift at work. I discovered individually wrapped ones for the first time! Yatsuhashi is a traditional Japanese confection made from a mixture of rice flour and sugar, flavored with cinnamon. The appeal lies in its consistent taste. Using "joshinko" (rice flour), adjustments are made to the amount of water and steaming time depending on the season. The red bean paste used in the Yatsuhashi from "Sei" is all made in-house, using carefully selected plump red beans from Hokkaido.

When it comes to Kyoto, it's all about "Yatsuhashi". I've eaten so many of Seigoin's Yatsuhashi, both baked and unbaked, that I've lost count. It has become a standard, making it difficult to give a clear evaluation. Personally, I think it deserves even higher praise... (bitter smile) This place is right next to Kumano Shrine. Located on the northeast corner of the intersection of Higashiyama Marutamachi, this is the Kumano branch of Seigoin Yatsuhashi Main Store. The main store is very close by. There are many seasonal flavors available in unbaked Yatsuhashi, and now there are more varieties than a rainbow. The fillings are truly diverse. However, I personally love the unbaked Yatsuhashi with only the skin. It's inexpensive, and the unique texture and taste are addictive. I will continue to rely on Seigoin in the future! During this season, I recommend trying the "Seiryo" which is made with agar and best enjoyed chilled in the refrigerator.

When it comes to Kyoto, you think of Yatsuhashi! And when you think of Yatsuhashi, you think of Seigoin! But, Seigoin is actually a place name. I just learned that for the first time. Did you all know that? This shop was established in the 2nd year of Genroku era. I did a little research. In the 2nd year of Genroku (1689), they started selling dried sweets shaped like a koto, called "Yatsuhashi," at a tea shop in the forest of Seigoin on Kurodani Sanmon Road. This is said to be the beginning of "Yatsuhashi," and that location is the birthplace of our company (current main store location). So, this shop is the origin? There are several shops claiming to be the origin, but this one seems to be the most well-known. The shop's logo also looks similar, so please be careful. Recently, there are various flavors of Yatsuhashi. This time, I bought the strawberry flavor for the first time. I was a bit hesitant to try it, but surprisingly, it was delicious! The red bean paste inside also had a strawberry flavor! I recommend it. Sometimes, trying different flavors of Yatsuhashi can be fun. This is the Kumano store, but the main store is nearby. I feel like this one is less crowded than the main store. Thank you for the meal.
