Chirimen sansho... delicious restaurant. I bought it when I visited Fushimi Inari Shrine before, and every time I come to Kyoto, instead of visiting Fushimi Inari, I come to buy chirimen sansho. I have purchased it from various shops before, but I think this shop's is the most delicious.

I purchased "Hannari" at a tasting and sales event on the approach to Toji Temple in the past and it was very delicious, so this time I stopped by the store while visiting Kyoto. I bought 2 packs of "Hannari" for my home and my sister's house, and as always, it was delicious.

This is a shop in Fushimi Inari that sells chirimen sansho (dried baby sardines with Japanese pepper). I bought the classic chirimen sansho, which has small pieces of Japanese pepper scattered among the fine dried baby sardines. The taste and balance are excellent. There are various flavors to choose from based on your preference. The small size of the dried baby sardines is a particular point of focus, and the crispy texture is great for both rice toppings and side dishes. The relatively long shelf life is also convenient, allowing you to buy in bulk without worry.

In February 2023, near Fushimi Inari, I happened to come across a shop that specializes in Chirimen Sansho, a type of dried and shredded Japanese pepper. They offer three levels of flavor intensity: "Usukuchi" (mild), "Hannari" (moderate), and "Koikuchi" (strong). I purchased the "Chirimen Sansho Hannari" (90g) for 1,000 yen excluding tax, and also got the "Asakura Sansho no Kurama-ni" (boiled Asakura pepper) for the same price. The Chirimen Sansho Hannari had a balanced and delicious flavor, not too strong, making it a great accompaniment to rice or as a snack with drinks. It was a good amount and would also make a nice souvenir. The boiled Asakura pepper had a rich and punchy flavor of pepper, perfect for enhancing dishes or enjoying on its own. Overall, both were delicious and worth trying.

This is a shop called "Gohachi" located on the Fushimi Inari approach. The shop owner, who trained in Kyoto, recreated recipes provided at the restaurant opened by their grandfather in Saga. The name "Gohachi" represents the grandfather's name and the wish for 40 (forty loyal customers). The shop opened in 2011. The products available at the JR Kyoto Isetan underground event included the following, all available for tasting: - Chirimen sansho (3 types: light, moderate, strong) - Sansho chili oil (4 types) I purchased the following item (prices include tax). The packaging design is nice: - Chirimen sansho light (100g, 1,080 yen): The lightest flavor among the 3 types of chirimen sansho. It has a generous amount of sansho with a refined spiciness. It goes well with rice. Requires refrigeration. Shelf life is approximately 20 days. Ingredients: Chirimen-jako, sake, hon-mirin, soy sauce, sansho (contains wheat and soybeans) It was delicious.

Ogako-chan brought me a souvenir from her trip to Kyoto, which was the "Chirimen Sansho" from Gohachido. My family loves Sansho pepper, and my mother even grows it at home. When I was a child, we had Sansho plants at our house, and the scent of Sansho would fill the air when you passed by. I love the tingling sensation in my mouth when I eat too much Sansho, so I was thrilled when Ogako-chan brought me the "Chirimen Sansho" this time. Although it was supposed to be a souvenir for me, my husband ended up eating most of it, saying it was perfect with sake. I almost felt murderous, but managed to have some too. The Chirimen was packed with Sansho seeds that burst with a fragrant aroma and a sharp, delicious flavor. It was great on rice, tofu, or even just on its own. Thank you for the delicious treat!

I received the dried chirimen sansho for the second time. The package was labeled "ko non" (thick non?), so I wonder if there is also "usui non" (thin non?) available? The dried chirimen sansho (ko non)... well, this color is a delicate shade. The taste is not too strong either. The spicy kick of the sansho is also present in the small dried fish. It goes perfectly with rice, onigiri, and of course, as a snack with alcohol.

The other day, I went to the oasis at Minoh Senba Market and they were offering free samples of chili pepper seasoned with Japanese pepper. It was delicious, with a perfect balance of soy sauce. There was also walnut chili pepper available, which was tasty as well. Additionally, the eight-flavor chili pepper had a unique taste with ingredients like wolfberry and walnut added to the mix. While big companies like Nagatanien have been releasing various products, nothing quite compares to the handmade craftsmanship of these chili peppers. When I got home, I enjoyed three bowls of rice with the chili pepper seasoning on fish.
