The restaurant is located about a 17-minute walk from Exit 4 of Kiyomizu-Gojo Station. Although the order was reversed, I visited Kiyomizu-dera after the Heian Shrine. I visited Kiyomizu-dera in the same month last year, but there were hardly any foreign tourists last year, so it was empty. However, this year, there were many foreign tourists, and it seemed to be reviving. When you visit Kiyomizu-dera, you have to buy Yatsuhashi! I ordered Matcha Yatsuhashi for 600 yen, Mango for 250 yen, Strawberry for 250 yen, Niki for 250 yen, and Matcha for 250 yen x3. The mango was surprisingly delicious and fruity. The strawberry tasted like strawberry jam. The Niki and Matcha were classic and consistently delicious. Thank you for the meal! Ψ( 'ч' ☆)

I received some Yatsuhashi from the original store, Nishio Yatsuhashi Kiyomizu Store in Kyoto as a souvenir. This is a product from a long-established store founded in 1689. I still love the classic Yatsuhashi with cinnamon. It's reliably delicious and I finish it in no time. It's a recommended traditional souvenir from Kyoto.

This is a shop where almost everyone stops after visiting Kiyomizu Temple. In the summer, they serve cold tea, and in other seasons, they serve hot tea along with Yatsuhashi. Even during the pandemic, they still offer tea and Yatsuhashi samples, and school trip students flock to the shop. I personally like the hard Yatsuhashi, so that area was less crowded. They sell hard Yatsuhashi in cinnamon and matcha flavors. If it's just for myself, I would buy cinnamon, but this time I bought matcha as a souvenir. I bought the Matcha Yatsuhashi (3 pieces x 10 packs) for 540 yen. It's my first time trying the matcha flavor, and it's incredibly delicious. Unlike the normal one, it doesn't have the cinnamon flavor, but the matcha aroma is really nice. It feels like they are using high-quality matcha. It's much better than other matcha-flavored snacks, with a wonderful aroma. It was a big hit with my colleagues. Thank you for the meal.

The shop is about a 17-minute walk from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station. It is located near Kiyomizu Temple, just a 1-minute walk from Sannenzaka. I had originally planned to go to Arashiyama, but it was crowded so I changed plans and went to Kiyomizu Temple instead. After seeing the temple, I didn't plan on buying anything from the closing souvenir shop, but ended up buying some Yatsuhashi at the last minute. I didn't intend to buy anything, so I forgot to take photos of the exterior, etc. I'm sorry. I threw away the receipt for the Niki Choco Banana so I don't remember the exact price, but I think it was around 600 yen. In the past, there were only Niki or matcha flavors, but now there are many unique flavors like ramune, making them colorful. They are in a size that can be easily finished and at a casual price, reminding me of when my son and daughter bought them as souvenirs on their school trip. My son loves Niki and ate them all (lol). The Choco Banana had too strong of a banana smell, so I couldn't taste the bean paste or chocolate (lol). The chewy texture of the skin was good. Maybe the original flavor is the best after all? Thank you for the meal. The Kyoto-Shiga trip was very enjoyable. Thank you for your company for a long time.

Visited on November 28, 2021, the famous store "Honke Nishio Yatsuhashi Shimizu Store" located in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, about a 20-minute walk from Kiyomizu Gojo Station on the Keihan Main Line, overlooking Kiyomizu Temple. The shop is located at the foot of Kiyomizu-zaka and offers a view of Kiyomizu Temple (^ . ^) There were a lot of tourists, it was crowded with people~ My son was eager to try the soft serve ice cream, so we bought the "Yatsuhashi Shop's Soft Serve Ice Cream for 350 yen." It was a mix of strawberry and vanilla flavors. Although the shop is famous for its Yatsuhashi, the soft serve ice cream had nothing to do with it, but surprisingly, they gave us a Yatsuhashi as a spoon. The soft serve ice cream itself was of good quality, rich and very delicious. As for the Yatsuhashi, my son didn't like it, so I ended up eating it. It's nice to enjoy food while sightseeing at Kiyomizu Temple~ Bon appétit~♪♪

During a stroll along Shimizu-zaka, I indulged in some food tasting. At "Honke Nishio Yatsuhashi Shimizu-ten," I tried their agemochi. The chewy rice cake had a satisfying texture, and the combination of rich soy sauce flavor and seaweed aroma was quite delicious. Thank you for the meal.

The souvenir does not contain any filling, just the skin. The skin alone is not too sweet, allowing you to fully enjoy the chewy texture. The cinnamon flavor in the Yatsuhashi is irresistible and I love it. The unique texture is also great, and the portion size is quite generous.

On the way to Kiyomizu-dera, I visited this place. They offer a complimentary cold cup of Uji tea. There is a wide and long counter with a variety of Yatsuhashi to choose from. I tried the cider, which was slightly sweet and refreshing.

Today's stop was at a shop near Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto, where I tried some Yatsuhashi. I was lured in by the samples. They served me warm green tea, but the teacup smelled like bleach. This tea must taste bad too. I ended up buying some unique flavors: chocolate banana and chocolate. The chocolate banana has a cinnamon smell, but the chocolate one is delicious without any cinnamon smell.

Every time I visit Kiyomizu-dera, I feel drawn to this place. Right after leaving Kiyomizu-dera, there is Nishio Yatsuhashi. Once again, I found myself entering the store as if being pulled in. I was immediately served tea. And even at times like this, there are samples available. I made sure to disinfect my hands before trying them. One black sesame... delicious! One orange... also delicious! The samples just keep coming. I enjoy Nishio Yatsuhashi because they offer various flavors. It seems like Nikki's Yatsuhashi is being overshadowed. I bought black sesame, orange, baked sweet potato, and chocolate banana flavors for myself. A pack of 5 costs 250 yen including tax, which is quite reasonable. We enjoyed them as snacks during our hotel stay. Yatsuhashi in Tokyo doesn't appeal to me much, but for some reason, I always crave it when I'm in Kyoto. And why does Yatsuhashi taste so much better in Kyoto? It's a mystery. Thank you for the meal.

As you climb up Gojozaka, you will find the famous Kiyomizu Temple. Kyoto appears to be suffering from tourism pollution, making it difficult to walk around. The area is filled with foreigners, many of whom are Chinese tourists in rental kimonos. Amidst this chaos, there was a shop offering unlimited samples of Yatsuhashi. Most foreigners were eating without buying, holding a cup of tea in one hand. They were eating with sticky and dirty hands, which was quite unpleasant. I quickly made a purchase and left the shop.

Recently, I was surprised to find that there are various flavors of Yatsuhashi available, from strawberry to chocolate and even sweet potato. Among them, I purchased the matcha flavor for 250 yen. It seems that matcha is the most popular flavor. The shop is located on the approach to Kiyomizu Temple, a prime location. I visited early in the morning, so it wasn't too crowded, but I imagine it gets very busy during peak hours. It's a nice atmosphere in the shop.

I was recommended to visit this place by someone who always buys Yatsuhashi here. The Yatsuhashi is made using traditional methods, not with chemicals, and has a gentle flavor. I tried the varieties with sweet red bean paste, matcha, and chestnut, and they all had a simple and delicious taste. I wanted to try the coarse sweet red bean paste, so I bought some. However, I haven't eaten it yet because my parents at home finished it. I plan to buy some for myself next time I visit. I really like that there are no artificial seasonings or preservatives, and the short shelf life.

When it comes to souvenirs from a trip to Kyoto, Yatsuhashi is a must-buy! This shop located on Kiyomizu-zaka, extending from the main entrance of Kiyomizu Temple, is one of the most famous Yatsuhashi shops, Nishio Yatsuhashi. The store is always crowded with people. The main attraction is the Yatsuhashi tasting! You are served green tea and get to try various flavors of Yatsuhashi. However, Yatsuhashi is so delicious and you might end up eating too much (danger, danger, haha). There are sweet flavors like chocolate banana or chocolate strawberry, as well as refreshing flavors like chocolate mint, so you won't get bored easily. This time, I bought the classic Yatsuhashi as well as the chocolate mint as souvenirs. I ended up spending nearly 5000 yen including some gifts for friends. I guess many people end up buying souvenirs here, which is why they can afford to be so generous with the tastings.

Visited the Yuba Cheese Honpo and tried their fried skewers with an empty stomach. Planning to have a separate dinner later, so just looking for something to fill the stomach a bit. Tried some Nishi Toshi pickles and then moved on to the next place where they served tea in small cups. Oh, this is the main Nishio Yatsuhashi store. Just like the Gion branch, here you can try samples while drinking tea! Customers lined up along the counter with samples and the crowd was lively. Tried some snacks and customers were ordering one after another. Even though I usually don't make a purchase after trying samples, the delicious taste makes me want to buy something. Last time it was strawberry & banana, but this time the lemon flavor was a hit. I told my wife, but the kid said they prefer the regular ones, so we bought matcha and nikki flavors. All the Yatsuhashi here are delicious and chewy. The matcha and nikki flavor, a box of 10 fresh Yatsuhashi, costs 540 yen including tax. The nikki flavor is not too strong, making it easy to eat, and the matcha flavor is not too overpowering. Nishio Yatsuhashi is definitely affordable. I give it a score of 77.

I went on a bicycle trip in Kyoto. Since there were a lot of people, I parked my bike at a bicycle parking lot. On the way to Kiyomizu Temple, I stopped by this shop. I had tea outside the shop, then went inside. There were many samples lined up. I tried them one by one to find my favorite. There were classic flavors as well as unique ones, and it was nice to be able to sample them. This time, I bought a small pack of unique flavors. The strawberry flavor tasted like strawberry jam, and surprisingly, it went well with the Yatsuhashi skin. The chocolate banana flavor is a favorite among children. The banana flavor is strong, so you don't really taste the Yatsuhashi. The chocolate mint flavor is quite adventurous (laughs). The mint flavor is not too strong, but you can still taste it. It might be good for creating a buzz. The classic flavors are delicious, but it's nice to have these unique ones once in a while.

Today is the last day of the long weekend. My family of three went on a day trip to visit the Western Japan Thirty-Three Pilgrimage Sites! After having lunch at "Menmen" in Yamashina, we entered Kyoto city and visited Imakumano Kannonji, Sennyuji, and Rokuharamitsuji to pray. It was getting quite hot as we made our way up to Kiyomizu-dera, the last stop for today! When I told my son, "Next we'll go to that temple up there," he said, "Oh no! I want to eat something." So I said, "If you climb up, there will be plenty of options!" And that's how we ended up at "Honke Nishio Yatsuhashi Kiyomizu Store" for some soft serve ice cream as a snack! My son chose mango for 300 yen, and my wife chose matcha vanilla for 300 yen (both prices include tax). We shared two cones among the three of us! Both flavors were rich and satisfying, with generous portions! Back in the day, soft serve ice cream used to be just vanilla, chocolate, or a mix, right? Well, that's a story from almost 40 years ago. Nowadays, there are so many options! It was a delicious treat! Thank you!

I visited Kyoto for the first time and decided to explore the famous spots, starting with Kiyomizu-dera. It was surprising to see even elementary school students on a school trip during Golden Week. As I walked down the Kiyomizu-zaka slope from the main entrance of Kiyomizu-dera, I came across a shop that I had seen on TV before. It is a store famous for Kyoto's top souvenir, Yatsuhashi. Just like Fukuoka's mentaiko and Sendai's sasakama, there are many manufacturers competing for the best Yatsuhashi in Kyoto. This particular shop focuses on offering a variety of flavors for souvenirs. Inside the shop, there are dozens of different flavors of Yatsuhashi displayed in a traditional Japanese setting. The staff offer samples for tasting at the storefront. I tried the black sesame Yatsuhashi, which had a nice texture from the black sesame seeds and a good balance of sweetness, along with the chewy mochi-like texture of the rice cake. The shop also had a variety of other flavors available for tasting, such as cinnamon, matcha, peach, ramune, and even baked Yatsuhashi. After indulging in so many samples, I felt compelled to buy something. I ended up purchasing the chocolate banana and chocolate strawberry Yatsuhashi as souvenirs (\540 including tax). These unique flavors were perfect for families with children. The red bean paste had cocoa powder inside, giving a slightly sticky sweetness and aroma of chocolate. The banana and strawberry flavors had a sweet scent added to the mochi, enhancing the sweetness of the red bean paste. I made sure that there was no cinnamon (nikki) in these flavors. This shop near the approach to Kiyomizu-dera offered a variety of samples and I ended up buying something as a result. Thank you for the delicious treats.
