I discovered a restaurant where I had lunch on Saturday and decided to go in. It is located between Nishiki Market and Kawaramachi-dori in Kyoto. The interior is bright and inviting. I ordered the daily lunch special, which was pork ginger grilled set meal. It included ginger grilled pork, salad, spinach side dish, rice, miso soup, and pickles. The flavors were gentle and typical of Kyoto, but the pork slices were thick and satisfying to eat.

I made a reservation but was completely ignored upon arrival. After insisting, they finally checked and confirmed my reservation, but only after 20 minutes of waiting. The alcohol was weak and not satisfying. The all-you-can-drink course for 4,500 yen was not worth it at all, as the food portions were large but the quality did not match the price. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

Today's work took me to Shijo-Karasuma again, and for lunch, I decided to go to Sake to Meshi Nishikidou. The Nishiki Market was incredibly crowded with tourists, school trips, and chaos trying to make up for the economic downturn caused by the pandemic. I ordered the Salted Mackerel Set. It arrived in about 5 minutes - rice, miso soup, salad with yuzu dressing, pickles, and salted mackerel with free refills of rice! The salted mackerel had a mild saltiness, and I topped it with grated daikon and soy sauce... delicious! It had a lot of bones though. It seems they also operate as an izakaya at night. Sake to Meshi Nishikidou is known for their Nikomi and Nikudofu dishes, so I'd like to visit as an izakaya next time. I had some errands in Shijo and checked out a couple of lunch spots, but both were disappointing... Feeling hungry, I was walking aimlessly when I spotted this restaurant. Luckily, there were seats available at the counter, so I was seated right away. Just that alone makes it a great restaurant!! I had the obanzai set meal for ¥1150 and a drink for ¥220. It was Kyoto-style obanzai, which looked beautiful and tasted delicious. The miso soup was piping hot and I burned my tongue, but it didn't have much flavor. The atmosphere was also great, and I felt comfortable dining alone. I would definitely recommend it to my friends. Thank you for the meal! \(^o^)/

Located near the famous Nishiki Market, this restaurant is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. I ordered the daily special set meal, which featured a dish called "Grilled Cod with Butterbur Shoot Miso". This dish was new to me and had a unique flavor. The cod, being a mild white fish, allowed the miso flavor to stand out. The butterbur shoot miso added a distinctive bitterness that evoked a sense of spring. Overall, the dish was lightly seasoned, including the miso soup which lacked a strong dashi flavor. Perhaps it was not made with bonito dashi, hence the mild taste. However, I enjoyed the unique bitterness of the butterbur miso in the main dish. It was a delicious meal.

The photo shows the Meat Sucking Teishoku (1,480 yen) and Obanzai Teishoku (1,100 yen)! I wonder if they run an izakaya at night and a teishokuya during the day? I just walked in without any prior knowledge, but I was very satisfied with this lunch during my trip to Kyoto! I had only tried kushikatsu at Kushikatsu Tanaka once before, but I felt it was delicious all over again! (^^)/

There was an egg from Miki Egg Shop, and I had egg over rice. It is a famous egg shop. I wanted to eat pork cutlet curry rice, but it seemed like a large portion, so I gave up. For lunch, I usually have pork with ginger stir-fry set meal. It also came with a salad. The nutritious pork and the deep aroma and flavor of ginger will give me energy for the afternoon.

The area around Nishiki Market in Kyoto was very crowded on Sunday, so we decided to eat at this restaurant a little further away. I had the obanzai set meal, which had flavors similar to izakaya dishes. It was nice that you could have unlimited rice refills. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I planned to have lunch at Tengu Dining, but when I arrived, it was full with a group of customers. They told me they weren't sure when they could seat me, so I decided to try this place nearby after a long time. Today, I had the daily special set meal (Pork with Saikyo Miso) for 900 yen. It included the main dish of pork with Saikyo miso, deep-fried eggplant, salad, macaroni with tomato sauce, rice, miso soup, and pickles. The pork was from the loin, so it was light. The deep-fried eggplant had a sweet flavor, but I felt it needed a bit more salt. In terms of cost performance, it was a bit lacking, considering the high cost of living. I hope they can do well despite that. The service was good. Thank you for the meal.

I made a reservation for 18:00. The restaurant is located within a 5-minute walk from Nishiki Market. When I arrived at 18:00, the restaurant was not crowded. The spacious interior layout makes it very convenient. The clientele seemed to be on the older side, with many middle-aged and elderly customers. I ordered a seafood bowl set meal. It was great to be able to enjoy a hearty set meal even in the evening. I also ordered some drinks and appetizers. The set meal was a bit pricey, but considering the generous portion, it was worth it. The seafood bowl set meal was delicious and satisfying. The restaurant played famous Showa era songs and had many Showa era posters displayed. Despite the casual izakaya atmosphere, the spacious interior, crowd level, and portion size make this restaurant highly recommended. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.

Today's lunch was at the restaurant called Nishiki Shokudo near Tengu Dai Hall. It is a retro-style eatery where enka music plays, and you can enjoy drinking even during the day. Since I was in Kyoto, I decided to try the Obanzai set meal for 1,100 yen. The lineup included chicken tempura with grated daikon, dried fish, dried radish, tarako (cod roe) with white konjac, chicken and daikon stew, salad, miso soup, rice, and pickles. You can get free refills on the rice. There seemed to be a lot of daikon dishes. Although they looked like a lot on the small plates, I found the portion size a bit lacking. Unfortunately, the rice bowl was chipped, which was disappointing. It's a shame when a restaurant doesn't pay attention to the quality of their dishes. Thank you for the meal.

I had work nearby and hadn't eaten lunch, so I decided to stop by this place around 3 PM. The lunchtime rush was over, but there were still a few customers coming in. The menu had a dinner restaurant vibe, but they also had a good selection of affordable lunch options. I ordered the obanzai lunch and it arrived in about 5-10 minutes. The presentation, variety, and portion size were all well-balanced, and the seasoning was just right. I found a great restaurant! It's recommended for when you can't make it for lunchtime. I enjoyed my meal! Thank you!

A convenient restaurant that serves lunch and dinner with a wide variety of dishes, perfect for drinking between lunch and dinner hours. I ended up staying longer than planned because of the extensive menu. I ordered dishes such as rich beef tendon stew, chanja, fried potatoes, and homemade potato salad, focusing on izakaya menu items. The taste was decent.

Located right near Nishiki Market. I arrived on January 2nd at 1:30 PM and the restaurant was fully booked. I chose the Hiroshima jumbo oyster fry set meal for 1350 yen. The oyster fry came with a light tartar sauce that included Kyoto pickles. The oysters were large and delicious, but I found the tartar sauce to be too light for my taste. I preferred using the separate sauce that came with the meal. The restaurant was new and clean, with a retro Showa era concept that was well-executed. The cost performance was decent.

Yesterday, I found this diner while walking around here after a long time. Diners are nice. When I see a diner around here, I can't help but think of Toru. My expectations naturally rise. But when I looked at the menu, everything was expensive. Everything was over 1000 yen. It didn't feel like a diner at all. The fried chicken set was 950 yen. I kind of regretted going in. But when the food came out, there was more than I expected, so I felt a little relieved. It was neither good nor bad. It was nice that they accepted electronic money.

I missed taking a photo, but the fresh wheat gluten dengaku was too delicious!!!! The side dishes were also excellent, as expected near Nishiki Market in Kyoto. There were many options and the seasoning was great, very tasty. We left early because the group next to us was too noisy, but next time I want to relax and enjoy my drink more.

I went to the New Year's first sale and visited this restaurant. It was quite empty passing through Nishiki Market. The restaurant was also empty when we visited before 12 o'clock. Lunch seems to be mainly set menu. I ordered the daily special, Pork sauté with demi-glace sauce for 900 yen. It came with salad and simmered hijiki, and I was full ♡ The miso soup tasted like homemade miso soup. My husband ordered the Soft Pork Belly Stew Set for 1,250 yen. It was quite filling, but the meat was a bit tough despite the name haha. It seems you can eat what you buy at Nishiki Market here, so I would like to try that next time!

Having a meal with a friend who lives with an elderly person. The friend insisted on going to a place where there is absolutely no risk of infection! At first, they suggested a cafe that seemed empty, but when we passed by this restaurant, they said, "Let's go here!" It's because this place has a lot of cleanliness and spacious seating, so you can enter with peace of mind ❤️ It's also convenient for when we have difficulty choosing a restaurant for a meal, with me going to a second place and my partner going to the first place due to our work schedules. My partner ordered the "Today's Night Set Meal." On that day, it was the "Sashimi Assortment Set Meal." It comes with a lot of side dishes like salad and simmered dishes, which is nice~ Especially the potato salad with shiba-zuke is great. I ordered the "Kinako Creme Brulee." It is baked on the surface and has a moderate firmness inside. You can really taste the kinako flavor in this homemade Japanese dessert. By the way, as I mentioned before, the bento boxes here are amazing! Normally, bento boxes come with rice and side dishes, but here the rice is packed separately for only 500 yen! The bento boxes, dinner, and dessert are all very convenient, and we visit here often. My friend in her late 40s was delighted by the nostalgic enka music playing in the background.

The area near Kawaramachi also surprisingly becomes a lunch refugee. Luckily, this place offers all-day service. I love lunch at izakayas. I explored with my friend. The karaage set meal with salad was delicious and the karaage had a good volume. It would be nice if they offered different flavors for the karaage. My friend tried their specialty, the "niku-sui" set meal, where raw meat is slowly cooked in hot broth. I didn't try it myself, but it seemed to be delicious. They have a wide variety of options, so we will definitely come back. Food rating on Tabelog: 3.25

I ordered the following menu items:
- Chicken Karaage Set Meal for 900 yen (includes white rice, 6 pieces of chicken karaage, miso soup, pickles, and a small side dish)
- Rice Ball with Shirasu (baby sardines) for 200 yen
Total cost: 1,100 yen
Review: This restaurant is located in Kyoto's bustling downtown area and offers lunch service until late. It's a spacious and welcoming eatery, with many customers enjoying drinks even during the daytime. The quality of the food was high, and the portions were generous, leaving me satisfied. The dishes had rich flavors that paired well with the rice. Additionally, rice refills were complimentary. The rice ball with shirasu in the photo was packed with plenty of baby sardines, making it quite filling. I left feeling full even with just the set meal. I would definitely consider returning to this restaurant for dinner as well!
