A quiet house in a residential neighborhood. Starting with a simmered abalone dish, we enjoyed sashimi, charcoal-grilled dishes, sake-steamed dishes, clear soup, and a clam rice porridge. It was a feast of shellfish! In addition to shellfish, we also had eel and beef rib, which were delicious (lol). The charcoal-grilled dish was carefully tended to by the landlady until it was just right to eat. You could feel her love for shellfish. The origin of the shellfish varies by day, and of course, the taste differs as well. On this day, we were lucky to have received large clams from Mie prefecture, which were plump and juicy, with a harmonious blend of broth and clam essence. We ordered a la carte instead of a course, and with some decent drinking, we were very satisfied with around ¥10,000 per person.

I visited after a long time. Even though it's getting colder, I suddenly felt like eating shellfish. They have it at sushi restaurants, but I get excited about being able to indulge in a variety of shellfish here. On this day, they served sakura tsubo shell, fresh oysters, tsubo shell, surf clam, scallop, turban shell, horned turban, large clams, and clams. Both raw and grilled were fresh and chewy. It was very delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Actually, despite the name, there is a wide variety of fish dishes available, so even people who don't like shellfish can enjoy it enough, but I still want to go all out with shellfish here. The black abalone looked delicious, so I chose the course that included it. After appetizers like princess sazae and isokirikai, there was a sashimi platter with fresh turban shell, ark shell, and clam, followed by seared black abalone with charcoal, grilled clams, large clams, northern surf clams, and scallops, and finally clam tempura with clam tsukudani rice. Everything was fresh with large, satisfying portions. I was surprised by the 8000 yen price. The atmosphere of the restaurant, which has been around for 40 years, and the disappointment of having to top up different brands of sake from the top, are the only downsides, otherwise it would be even more recommended. Oh, I made a reservation using the Tabelog reservation system. It was quite convenient. I wish everyone would use this.

I recently held a gathering with a senior colleague who loves shellfish called the "Shellfish Club." We went to a shellfish restaurant near Ginkakuji Temple called "Ginkakuji Kai." It is located in a remote area that takes about 15 minutes by taxi from the city center. The restaurant is situated in a residential area not far from Imadegawa Shirakawa Street. You can easily spot the restaurant from afar with a sign that reads "Shellfish" (laughs). The interior of the restaurant mainly consists of tatami seating, creating an atmosphere suitable for entertaining or banquets. For some reason, nostalgic music like ENYA or Taro Hakase was playing (laughs). We ordered the "Abalone and Shellfish Course" on that day. The meal started with an appetizer consisting of three dishes, including vinegar-marinated shellfish and raw sea squirts. I'm not particularly fond of sea squirts, so this amount was just right for me. We also ordered extra rock oysters, which were quite creamy. The turban shell, horned turban, and large clams were grilled over charcoal. You can choose the seasoning from special broth, miso, etc. The miso had a rich flavor and went well with the shellfish. Of course, there are also many seasonal dishes besides shellfish. Despite its remote location, shellfish lovers should consider visiting this place.

On Saturday, I was invited by Dalmashu to a lunch meeting. The restaurant we visited specialized in shellfish dishes, which was quite unique. Located in a narrow alley near Ginkaku-ji, the restaurant was a traditional establishment with a waiting room and private rooms. Dalmashu, who discovered this place through a magazine, was already seated when I arrived. We started with a toast of Lager beer and ordered the lunch shellfish course, which we were looking forward to. The first course was a clam and rapeseed with yuba in a broth, which was delicious and perfect for the season. Then, the highlight of the meal was the grilling of various shellfish on a charcoal grill. We started with sazae shellfish, followed by oysters from Mie Prefecture, and a platter of three different types of shellfish - turban shell, tsubugai shell, and torigai shell. Each shellfish had a unique flavor and texture, and we enjoyed them with different sauces. The restaurant surprised us with a generous serving of abalone sashimi as a special treat, which was incredibly fresh and flavorful. We also tried grilled turban shell liver and enjoyed the unique taste and texture. Despite drinking a lot, we were treated to a delicious clam rice soup or clam ochazuke as a finale. The meal ended with a choice of dessert - either a chocolate mousse or condensed milk ice cream. Overall, the shellfish-focused course was excellent and well worth the price. The experience of enjoying a variety of fresh shellfish dishes in the heart of Kyoto was truly remarkable.

If you love shellfish, you will definitely enjoy this restaurant. The atmosphere of the restaurant feels a bit cozy and welcoming. There is no tense atmosphere, it just naturally blends into the town. The surroundings of the restaurant may make it a bit difficult to find if you are not familiar with the area. They offer various courses, and I chose the shellfish course for 6000 yen. Other courses include abalone, shrimp, conger eel, and they change seasonally. When I visited at the end of March, I enjoyed clams, turban shells, ark shells, surf clams, oysters, whelks, and large clams. The meal included appetizers, three types of grilled shellfish, three types of sashimi, grilled shrimp and mushrooms with mayonnaise, and a choice of rice porridge or tea-soaked rice with clams. For dessert, you can choose strawberry and condensed milk ice cream or cold sake. Each dish was carefully prepared and fresh, offering a variety of flavors to enjoy. The different ways to enjoy each shellfish, such as with broth, miso, or ponzu sauce, were impressive. It is clear that the restaurant has put a lot of thought into their menu. I felt that this restaurant is more suited for business entertaining or travelers rather than locals like us. Considering the location in Kyoto and the quality of the food, I think I would have been even more satisfied if the price was 1000 yen cheaper. (Just to clarify, I don't mean that cheaper is always better, but in terms of overall value including atmosphere, service, food, and location.)

The taxi driver will need to go round and round in a residential area to find this restaurant. I first visited this place 15 years ago with my parents. It's a great option when you want to avoid casual places where shellfish lovers might not feel comfortable. They offer a course menu where they serve sashimi and grilled dishes, preparing each type of shellfish in the most delicious way. The winter Taiyaki shellfish shabu-shabu is amazing! I'm not a fan of dishes that are overly processed, so I really like this restaurant as they bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients. If you're planning to visit the Silver Pavilion, you might want to consider this place for some shellfish.

This is an image of a casual and cozy traditional Japanese restaurant, where you can enjoy a variety of small dishes. There are table seats and counter seats, and the efficient owner seems to be working hard. I chose to sit at the counter where I could watch the chefs in action. I visited without a reservation, as I wasn't sure when I would be able to make it due to my errands near Ginkakuji Temple. I found the restaurant easily and arrived without any trouble. Although I usually love shellfish, that day I wanted to try some grilled fish, so I ordered individual dishes instead of the shellfish course. Everything I ordered was incredibly delicious. Each dish came out at the perfect timing, with hot dishes served hot and cold dishes served cold. The boiled komatsuna and fried tofu, crunchy turban shell, whelk, ark shell sashimi, tempura of shrimp and conger eel, and especially the perfectly grilled golden snapper with crispy skin and tender flesh were all outstanding. I wondered how ayu (sweetfish) cooked in this style would taste from the next season. The large clams, round eggplants, and other dishes I ordered were all excellent, but the standout was the delicious rolled omelette with a glossy surface. The half-thick sōmen noodles were also delicious. I usually don't enjoy sitting at a counter where I can see other people, but even at famous traditional Japanese restaurants where the chefs talk about where each ingredient is from and whether it's male or female, this place kept the necessary conversation to a minimum, allowing me to enjoy the food without distractions. And the best part was the great value for the quality of the food. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I think this is an irresistible shop for shellfish lovers. Firstly, I don't think there are many specialty shellfish shops. The prices are not cheap, but there is a wide variety of shellfish available, so you can be satisfied. I had everything from ark shells to abalone, and various other types of shellfish. It seemed like there were a lot of raw options. However, since they only serve shellfish, it might be a bit tough for those who are not fans of shellfish. But the taste and freshness were excellent. You can eat as much shellfish as you want! If you love shellfish, you should definitely go. I already want to go back after a long time.

We went to a company banquet at this restaurant. Despite its somewhat old-fashioned and run-down appearance from the outside, the food that came out was amazing. It was a full course of shellfish dishes, and even though I'm not a big fan of raw shellfish, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of dishes served. From traditional Japanese dishes to Western-style dishes, including abalone shabu-shabu, everything was delicious and I was able to enjoy it until the end without getting bored. And to top it off, the price was surprisingly affordable, at less than 10,000 yen. The senior executives who were hosting the banquet seemed very satisfied and mentioned that they would like to come back again. It seems that there is only one large tatami room available for banquets, so it is recommended to make a reservation early. Even though I would like to come back with a few friends, the excellent food at such a low price makes it ideal for budget-friendly entertaining.

I love shellfish, and I was very satisfied! They only serve what they caught that day, so everything is fresh and delicious. It's rare to find a restaurant with employees from Kyoto. Apparently, celebrities also visit this place incognito.
