There were no balloons here. I ordered a coffee for ¥580. The bitterness was okay, not too strong. I didn't feel a sharp bitterness, and it didn't feel refreshing. The interior has a high ceiling which is nice, but the seating is average and feels close to the next table. The food menu is also not great. I probably won't come back.

Visited the café "Maeda Coffee" at the Kyoto Museum of Culture. Established in 1971, this renowned café in Kyoto is located in a former bank vault designed by architects Tokuma Katayama and Uheiji Nagano, now designated as an important cultural property. I ordered the Ryunosuke + Kyara (¥1100). Ryunosuke is a beloved blend with a mild bitterness and a hint of acidity, making it easy to drink with a light roast. Kyara consists of coffee jelly and mocha ice cream, a combination commonly found in old cafés like Mikado Coffee in Tokyo. The vanilla ice cream pairs perfectly with the jelly and mocha ice cream, creating a delicious treat. What's great is that the café is located inside the museum, so it's not too crowded, which adds to the experience.

It was located inside the Kyoto Museum of Culture. The shop was small but felt spacious because of the high ceiling. The retro atmosphere and friendly staff made it a comfortable place to be. I was full, so I tried the "Aimi" ice milk tea, which was sweet from the start. It was delicious. My companion had pound cake, which they said was delicious, so I bought matcha and black tea banana flavors to take home, and they were really tasty. I wish I had bought more.

Visited the restaurant for dinner. Although I have been to Maeda Coffee before, this was my first time at this particular branch. I arrived around 6pm on a weekday, just before closing time, so there were no other customers. After a short wait, I was seated at a table for two and placed my order. I tried the Cheese Potato Toast (1370 yen) which was creamy and delicious, with warm potato salad and tomatoes on crispy bread. The colorful dish was very appealing. I also had their famous Cappuccino Parfait (1180 yen) which had a nice crunchy texture from the biscotti. The coffee soft serve with cinnamon was fragrant, and the layers of vanilla soft serve, black beans, chestnuts, and coffee jelly at the bottom were all delightful. It was a shame I couldn't finish the parfait before closing time, but both dishes were very tasty. I would love to come back for the parfait when I have more time.

I visited this tea shop. It has a nice atmosphere. It feels like Kyoto. Lovely. The customers also look stylish somehow. I ordered the coffee jelly and soft serve ice cream, as well as the British-style milk tea called "Kyara". After waiting for 15 minutes, they arrived! Oh, they look delicious. First, the jelly... Oh, it's not too strong in coffee flavor and has just the right amount of sweetness. Delicious. It moistens my slightly dry throat. I can't stop eating with the spoon. And then, the milk tea. Delicious. Easy to drink. I like it. The cup is cute too. I felt once again that Kyoto is a nice place at this cafe. The shop isn't very big, but it's a wonderful place. Thank you for the meal. I want to come back again.

Today, I went to a cafe inside the Kyoto Cultural Museum near Karasuma Oike. The cafe I was looking for was located in a courtyard at the back of the building. It's called "Maeda Coffee", and it's located in a building that used to be the vault room of the former Japan Bank Kyoto Branch. The thick door gave a sense of the vault room. The cafe was full, so I had to wait a bit after putting my name on the waiting board. While waiting, I visited the "Toshio Suzuki and Studio Ghibli Exhibition" at the Kyoto Cultural Museum, which was a good way to pass the time. After about 30 minutes, my name was called, and I was able to enter. The interior had antique-style furniture, creating a retro atmosphere. It's a space that cafe lovers would enjoy! Looking at the menu, there were collaboration menu items with the "Toshio Suzuki and Studio Ghibli Exhibition". The menu was diverse, ranging from sweets to sandwiches, and even pasta and curry. I ordered the homemade chicken curry, which had plenty of vegetables blended into the curry sauce. The chicken was plentiful and well integrated with the sauce, giving it a rich and deep flavor. For dessert, I also ordered a collaboration menu item with Studio Ghibli, the "Straw Hat Strawberry Float" inspired by Totoro's Mei's straw hat. It was a cute strawberry float with a cookie straw hat, accompanied by peaches and cherries. It had a refreshing taste, and I enjoyed it. Overall, I had a relaxing time in the unique setting of the former vault room.

Once a year photography event, KYOTOGRAPHIE. This year, as usual, it was held from April to May, and I visited various venues over two days. After exploring the venues around Karasuma, I took a little break here. Hot Mix Sandwich & Set Drink (Hot Coffee) 1400 yen. Lately, when I go out alone, I tend to eat sandwiches for lunch. I wonder why? And if available, I prefer toast or hot sandwiches. Luckily, they had a Hot Mix Sandwich here. It's a one-plate dish, but there's plenty of vegetables, which is nice. The cabbage was abundant, almost overflowing, and I was completely satisfied. The sandwich was a basic egg, tomato, lettuce, but the bread was thick and satisfying to eat. On that day, there was also a Ghibli-related exhibition at the museum, so many customers were enjoying the collaboration lunch, but I was happy with my hot sandwich. It was delicious. Next time, I would like to try the cake.

After seeing the exhibits at the Kyoto Cultural Museum, I stopped by for a late lunch. It seems like it used to be the old Bank of Japan's vault room, so it has a very nostalgic feel. It was a Saturday, so it was crowded and full. We had to write our names on a waiting board near the entrance and wait outside on a bench for about 15 minutes. When our turn came, we were seated at the farthest table in the back, so it was hard to place an order. I had to go up to the counter to order. There was a collaboration menu for the Suzuki Toshio and Ghibli exhibition, but I opted for something normal. I ordered the Hot Mix Sandwich for 1,200 yen and added a drink set for an additional 200 yen, choosing an iced coffee. The hot sandwich had a combination of lettuce, tomato, and boiled egg, and was very delicious and filling. The iced coffee was okay. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

Maeda Coffee, beloved by the people of Kyoto. I tried the Mocha Ilgacheffe coffee beans, Benkei. Ilgacheffe in southern Ethiopia is known as the No.1 coffee producing region in Ethiopia, and is loved worldwide for its exceptionally high quality coffee. It offers a fruity aroma and a clean, refreshing taste. When brewed slowly with a medium grind, a sweet aroma fills the air. With a mild bitterness and acidity, it has a crisp and refreshing flavor.

I wanted to eat Napolitan, but it wasn't on the menu at this restaurant, so I ordered Hayashi Rice with miso instead. The miso flavor was quite strong, but it was still enjoyable to eat. The chairs were comfortable, and I was able to relax and read a book. It was a weekday, but customers kept coming in one after another.

On the first day in Kyoto, I originally wanted to have tea at Chorakukan, but it was too crowded so I had to give up. It seems even on weekdays it's quite busy. I changed my plans and went shopping instead, then visited Maeda Coffee Bunbou-ten. The shop was full, so I had to wait for about 10-15 minutes. I was seated on a sofa for two people. I wanted to order a cappuccino and a café latte, but surprisingly, the espresso machine was broken so I couldn't order any espresso-based drinks. I ended up ordering a hot and an iced café au lait, and an espresso parfait. Since I couldn't have any espresso drinks, I tried to make up for it with the parfait (laughs). It was topped with biscotti and was quite filling and delicious! I was able to use my Go To Travel ticket.

In July in Kyoto, there is the Gion Festival. The Kyoto Museum of Culture also had an exhibition with the theme of the Gion Festival. To go along with this, the shops inside the museum offered limited-time products that collaborated with the museum's exhibition. One of the traditional ingredients in Kyoto, "white miso," was used to create a parfait. The parfait was aptly named "White Miso Gion Festival Parfait." It combined white miso with whipped cream and added a touch of Japanese unique seasoning, the essential Japanese spice, sansho pepper. This parfait had a true Japanese taste. It was topped with a biscuit shaped like the wheels of the floats in the Gion Festival. Not only was it visually appealing, but it also tasted delicious, as expected from Maeda Coffee Shop!

I went to see the Czech exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto. It was quite interesting, but I decided to have lunch nearby because they had a parfait with an intriguing name. However, I was the only customer. It seems that not many people are visiting the Gion Festival exhibition at the museum either, probably due to the impact of the new coronavirus. The toast I ordered took longer to make than the other customers' orders. The presentation was impressive, with a large wheel of cheese and fresh wheat gluten. Underneath, there was sponge cake, which felt a bit odd. The white miso was interesting but too salty. Perhaps the concept didn't quite work out.

It's been a while since I visited Kyoto. I wanted to eat Maeda Coffee's Neapolitan, so I visited after a long time. The store is located in the back of what seems like a museum, and it is quite small. I was looking forward to having the Neapolitan, but it wasn't on the menu! I wonder if they don't serve it at this store, or if they have removed it from the menu. What a shame! However, I ordered the meat sauce pasta instead, and it was delicious! It had chunks of tomatoes and onions, giving it a homemade feel. The taste of the meat sauce was rich and I really liked it. I usually think that pasta at cafes is instant, but this one was really tasty! Thank you for the meal~

Good evening♡ I wanted to take a break around Sanjo area, so I decided to visit this place. Instead of going to a chain store, I chose a regular shop. When I visited, the museum was closed but the café and souvenir shop were open. They were located in a retro building that used to be the former Bank of Japan. The interior was a bit small, but since there were few people, it had a relaxed atmosphere. Everyone there was quiet, which created a very nice ambiance. My companion ordered the Ryunosuke blend, which had a strong bitterness and acidity. I ordered a café au lait, which came in a cute cup. It was made with Ryunosuke as a base and then milk was added. I was surprised that the acidity I tasted when I had Ryunosuke alone was gone! The bitterness was still present but milder. They had a variety of cakes on the menu, so I look forward to trying some sweet treats next time while taking a break.

Cafe located in the annex of the Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts in the Imperial Palace. No entrance fee is required to use this cafe. It used to be the vault room of the former Bank of Japan Kyoto Branch. Two people came in the afternoon for a short break. The cafe has a high ceiling and a relaxed atmosphere. We ordered the special mixed juice (¥650), Garasu (¥790), and black bean and soy flour biscotti (¥300). Garasu is a dessert made by Maeda Coffee with cappuccino soft serve, vanilla ice cream, and coffee jelly. The biscotti comes with a ribbon so you can take home any leftovers. There are many cafe magazines available. According to them, the founder of Maeda Coffee used to work at Inoda Coffee before starting his own cafe. Both cafes are truly Kyoto-born. Next time, I want to try their coffee.

Before enjoying an art exhibition at the Kyoto Museum of Culture, I visited the "Maeda Coffee Bunhaku-ten" located in the annex of the museum. The Maeda Coffee Bunhaku-ten is situated in a former vault room, which gives it a solemn and heavy atmosphere with its thick door. The interior of the shop also exudes a sense of grandeur. The food menu includes pasta, sandwiches, cakes, and parfaits. I ordered a Kyoto-style "Muu" (450 yen) and a cafe au lait (540 yen). If you opt for a cake set, you can get a 50 yen discount on your drink. The Kyoto-style "Muu" consists of layers of matcha mousse, matcha jelly, and whipped cream wrapped in sweetened rice cake. It has a subtle sweetness, but the rice cake makes it a bit difficult to cut and eat. I enjoyed sipping on my cafe au lait and soaking in the historic retro atmosphere of the place.

Maeda Coffee in Kyoto is located inside the Kyoto Cultural Museum. I often visit Inoda Coffee, but I haven't been to Maeda Coffee much due to my limited range. I think I went to the Meirin store a long time ago. On this day, I was looking for a place to rest for a bit during a late lunch. It's inside the Kyoto Cultural Museum in Sanjo, but you can enter even if you're not a museum visitor, so don't worry. - Roll sandwich (¥680) + tea (set price ¥150): It comes with an egg salad sandwich, a ham and ketchup sandwich, and a side salad. The salad includes tomatoes, potato salad, and plenty of cabbage! It's a good way to get your vegetable intake (laughs). The dressings are tomato-based and sesame-based, both served with bottles. The roll bread has plenty of egg salad and the ketchup goes well with the ham. The interior has a retro atmosphere, being in the former vault room of the old Bank of Japan Kyoto branch. It's perfect for a little break. Cafes around Sanjo are usually crowded on weekends, so it's good to know about this place. The calm atmosphere inside the museum is nice. Other places nearby to relax are PAUL and a few others around the Kyoto Cultural Museum.

This shop is located inside the former Bank of Japan vault, so it is surrounded by a somewhat fantastical atmosphere. The menu had a wide variety of cakes, but more than half were sold out, which was disappointing. I didn't feel like eating cake anymore, so I just ordered coffee. I ordered a coffee called "Ryunosuke," and it had a strong acidity flavor that I love. Since all the employees were part-time workers, they seemed to lack knowledge about coffee. Even when I asked about the flavor and taste of this coffee on the menu, they couldn't answer. I think they could improve the way they brew coffee too. If you work in a specialty coffee shop like this, even as a part-timer, I would like to see them gain a solid knowledge about coffee.
