Located on the second floor of Itoya Yatsuhashi in Kyoto's bustling district of Kyogoku Ichibangai. I stopped by for a break. There were two groups ahead of me, so I wrote my name on a sheet of paper and waited. When I was shown to my seat, I was informed that orders are placed at the counter and must be paid in advance. Once you place your order, they will bring your items to your table if you display the ticket they give you. I ordered the Uji ice cream. It was topped with rich matcha, and the combination of the bitter matcha and sweet syrup was delicious.

On a hot day, I stopped by a shop while walking from Nishiki Market to Teramachi because I was tired. It turned out to be a shop selling Iizutsu Yatsuhashi. The first floor sells various types of Yatsuhashi, and the second floor is a self-service cafe. I ordered an affogato at the counter and they brought it to my table, it was a mix of self-service and table service. It was a nice touch to have a piece of baked Yatsuhashi on top. I often eat raw Yatsuhashi, but it had been a while since I had baked Yatsuhashi. It had a crispy texture and a subtle cinnamon scent, which made it delicious in its own way.

I ordered something like green tea. It was neither good nor bad. Nothing special. There was too much ice, and it was hard to eat with soft serve ice cream. I should have asked for no ice. They also gave a sample of Yatsuhashi.

Nishiki Market is a great place to take a break and relax. The atmosphere is not too noisy, which is nice. The staff, especially the female employees, are friendly and the place is clean and well-maintained. It's a good spot to rest after walking around Kyoto's busy streets. No complaints at all. The shaved ice and drinks were delicious, and I will definitely come back again. Highly recommended!

This is a shop located on Kyoto Gyokko Ichiban Street, on Teramachi Street, just above Shijo Street. On the first floor, there are showcases lined up with various sweets from Iizutsu Yatsuhashi Honpo. Going up the stairs to the second floor, you will find a clean and tidy space with long tables neatly arranged. As indicated on the sign on the first floor, you can enjoy a light meal (pasta or bread) for lunch. I ordered the mentaiko pasta for 850 yen + lunch salad set for 180 yen, and the meat sauce pasta for 850 yen + lunch salad set for 180 yen. Both were delicious. The casual menu allows for a quick meal, and the clean and pleasant atmosphere makes it a great place to have tea as well.

The famous confectionery shop Yatsuhashi no Izutsuya on Kyoto Teramachi Street has a first floor that mainly sells Yatsuhashi and other traditional Japanese sweets, as well as a variety of Japanese miscellaneous goods. The second floor houses a cafe, and even a hand-baked Yatsuhashi experience corner. Despite recent controversies in the news, it's nice to see this long-standing 200-year-old shop taking on new challenges with a new store. I visited the shop this time because it was too hot and I just wanted to take a break. I ordered the popular "Strawberry Shaved Ice (900 yen)" among the seasonal shaved ice offerings. Other options include "Mango Kiwi Shaved Ice with Soft Serve (900 yen)," "Uji Kanetoki (850 yen)," and "Honey Lemon Shaved Ice (850 yen)." I paid at the entrance, and the "Strawberry Shaved Ice" arrived after about 10 minutes. It was indeed filled with plenty of fruit jam as indicated on the menu... It was delicious, but maybe a bit too sweet. I felt the taste was a bit overwhelming. However, the spacious seating and the lack of crowds allowed me to relax and enjoy the cooling effect on my overheated body as originally intended, so I was overall satisfied.

After having lunch in Kyoto, my wife suddenly wanted to have some sweets in a row. We decided to explore around Kawaramachi area to find a new shop, and luckily stumbled upon this cafe. As the name suggests, this shop is operated by the famous Yatsuhashi shop called Izutsu Yatsuhashi Honpo. Looking at the menu, there were plenty of satisfying options that my wife would like! The menu seemed to complement the main product of the shop, Yatsuhashi, as each menu came with Izutsu Yatsuhashi's proud Yatsuhashi. We were drawn to the menu using matcha, so my wife ordered pancakes and I ordered a parfait. Both dishes were impactful just like the photos on the menu, and we were quickly full. It warmed our tired bodies from exploring Kyoto. The set with drinks was reasonably priced, satisfying both our hearts and bodies. It was surprisingly not crowded for a Saturday afternoon, allowing us to relax. However, the fast-food style of having customers return the heavy empty Japanese dishes to the return counter after eating was disappointing for a recommended shop with hearty menus. Despite the reasonable cost-effectiveness, there seemed to be a cost that matched the appearance, reminding us of the importance of balance in everything.

Located on Teramachi Street, Izutsu Cafe is a well-established shop known for its delicious Yatsuhashi (traditional Kyoto sweet). The cafe has a spacious retail space on the first floor and a semi-self-service cafe on the second floor. The interior is spacious and features a clean, modern Japanese-style design. Though not very noticeable, they also serve breakfast from 9 am. I chose the toast set from several breakfast options, with buttered toast and coffee. Of course, the set came with Yatsuhashi. Everything was delicious.

At the southern end of Shinkyogoku Shopping Street, a little up from there on Kyogoku Ichiban Street, there is a cafe on the 1st floor with a store selling Izutsu Yatsuhashi and other select shops. The cafe has an open entrance facing the street on the 2nd floor, with stairs to the 2nd floor and a cafe sign on the south side. The interior of the cafe is designed with a Japanese feel, with white and brown as the base colors and a spacious, softly lit atmosphere. While walking on a hot day, I was drawn to the peach shaved ice sign in front of this store, thinking "Let's cool down!" I tried the white peach shaved ice with plenty of fruit, with cut peaches on top of rich syrup. The ice was finely crushed for a crunchy texture, and the syrup was dense and sweet, blending well with the peaches. Of course, it was served with Izutsu Yatsuhashi, making it a delicious treat. While strolling through Shinkyogoku, I discovered that Kyogoku Ichiban Street was being renovated, and I found a cafe there. I ordered the Izutsu Parfait, which uses Ogura red beans. Later, I found out that it uses an ancient variety of red beans. While eating it, I noticed a light sweetness and a plump texture, and realized that using high-quality red beans makes a difference. The soft serve on top also had a subtle cinnamon flavor, and the warabi mochi with black honey was a delicious addition.

【When?】Weekday, after 2 pm【With whom?】Alone【Purpose?】Late light lunchI visited a self-serve café located just off Shijo Street near Teramachi Street. I have been here a few times in the past when I wanted to satisfy my sweet tooth. This time, I decided to have a late lunch and opted for the hotcake and drink set. There were two coffee options: blend and recommended. Since I tried the recommended one last time, I chose the blend this time. Both were delicious when enjoyed black. The hotcake came with kinako (soybean flour) ice cream, black honey syrup, and sweet bean paste toppings. I thought it was vanilla ice cream at first, so it was a pleasant surprise in my mouth. The café has a relaxed atmosphere, suitable for solo diners or groups. Despite being in the middle of Kawaramachi, it's always quiet and a hidden gem. The complimentary Yatsuhashi (Kyoto sweet) is a nice touch, and I always end up buying some to take home.★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

I entered from Shijo Street and stopped by "IZUTSUCAFE" at the corner of Shin-Kyogoku Street, where my friend wanted to try their fruit parfait. The cafe was renovated a couple of years ago, with the cafe now located on the second floor while the first floor still offers the experience of making Yatsuhashi for souvenirs and students. The cafe on the second floor was not very spacious, with my choice being the seasonal White Peach Parfait for 740 yen, which included peach jelly and sherbet topped with rich soft serve ice cream. My friend ended up ordering the Matcha Roll Cake with Soft Serve Ice Cream for around 500 yen. It came with the classic Yatsuhashi. It was not too crowded, so we were able to relax and enjoy our treats. The address is 310 Higashitakamatsucho, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, and the phone number is 075-255-2121. They are open from 10:00 to 20:00.

In the heat, I walked around and finally arrived at a shop. This is Kyoto, so of course I had to get matcha shaved ice. It was a bit expensive, but I also ordered milk as a topping. Shaved ice nowadays can cost almost 1000 yen, huh? Most of the staff seemed to be student part-timers, and the service was lacking in hospitality. A bit disappointing. The shaved ice itself was not bad, in fact it was delicious. Nowadays, shaved ice often comes with ice cream, but I prefer just the ice when it's hot. The ice was not the fluffy type, but more on the crunchy side. Still, it's just so expensive.

On September 13, 2014, I visited Izutsu Cafe at Izutsu Yatsuhashi Honpo in Kyoto. The cafe is located on the 2nd floor of the building. It operates on a self-service cafeteria-style, where you order at the counter and bring your food to your seat. I tried the hot coffee house blend for 320 yen and the Izutsu parfait matcha for 720 yen, which comes with a complimentary Izutsu Yatsuhashi. Personally, I don't find the Yatsuhashi very delicious, but I really like the parfait.

I visited Izutsu Cafe in Kawaramachi, Kyoto. It is a cafe owned by Izutsu Yatsuhashi Honpo. It is located about a 3-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station, on the 2nd floor of Teramachi Street shopping arcade. You order at the counter on the 2nd floor in an eat-in style. There are around 45 seats available. It is easy for a woman to visit alone. I ordered the Uji Kanji shaved ice for 700 yen, which is a seasonal limited item. The taste of Uji and sweet bean paste is very good. The ice is fluffy and crunchy. Milk is spread underneath, making it delicious until the end. If it's not full, you can relax even if you are alone. You can read a book without worrying about the surroundings or the staff. In Kyoto, there is also "Tsuki to Rokupence" where you can indulge in reading alone and spend time leisurely. The indoor space and toilets are clean. This cafe is perfect for a break when you are tired from sightseeing in Kyoto or to pass the time until dinner. If you have some free time in Kyoto, be sure to give it a try.

Solo Trip to Kyoto in June - Part 6 This time, I was able to take the Shinkansen from Maibara and arrived in Kawaramachi around 10 am. I was planning to leisurely stroll around, but I stumbled upon this shop right after turning at the corner of Lipton. It's a place I've always wanted to visit. The first floor houses a shop selling Yatsuhashi (a traditional Kyoto sweet) and a tourist information center, while the second floor is a cafe. I decided to try their matcha parfait! The parfait was topped with red beans, soft serve ice cream, matcha sauce, matcha ice cream, two pieces of shiratama (mochi), matcha warabi mochi, whipped cream, and a bag of Yatsuhashi. There was also a chocolate piece shaped like the kanji character for "well" from Iizutsu. Although the parfait was a bit on the smaller side, it was delicious!

I went to Kyoto with my friends and found a cafe while wandering around looking for a place to rest after walking a lot. It is located on the second floor, with a shop selling Yatsuhashi and other items on the first floor. We visited around 4 pm on a weekday and were able to sit down easily without it being crowded. When in Kyoto, you want to try something Kyoto-like, right? So, I ordered a matcha parfait (680 yen) and my friend ordered a roll cake with soft serve ice cream on top (500 yen). The matcha parfait had sponge cake, whipped cream, matcha ice cream, matcha warabi mochi, shiratama, soft serve ice cream, and red beans on top. The soft serve ice cream was rich and delicious, and the warabi mochi had a nice texture. However, although it was tasty, it felt a bit too ordinary for tourists looking for Kyoto desserts. The fact that it was served in a regular glass was a bit disappointing. Also, the price of 680 yen for that amount seemed a bit high. Maybe that's just how it is in touristy areas?

My mother and I went shopping at Nishiki Market in Kyoto, and when we continued on to Teramachi Street, we stumbled upon this shop by chance. It's a cafe located on the second floor of the well-known Yatsuhashi brand, Itoh Yatsuhashi Honpo. We were tired from walking, so it felt like a fateful encounter for us. Of course, we ordered the matcha parfait, because we are in Kyoto. The matcha warabi mochi and matcha ice cream were both delicious. The price was reasonable at 680 yen, and it even came with Yatsuhashi cookies from Itoh Yatsuhashi. We also tried putting the Yatsuhashi cookies on soft serve ice cream, and it was also delicious. The interior of the cafe was stylish and had a calm atmosphere. While it's popular among tourists, we also saw a local enjoying tea and reading a book. We found a great spot!

There is a long-established shop of Izutsu Yatsuhashi located a little above Shijo on Teramachi Street. It is a popular spot for school trips. Recently, a cafe opened on the second floor. It is self-service and the interior is not overly decorated in a traditional Japanese style, so the prices are reasonable. While waiting for your parfait after ordering at the register, you can observe tourists from a seat overlooking Teramachi Street. The matcha parfait has a great taste, and I was worried about the low price, but it was delicious. The sweet red bean soup is not the typical white rice cake, but two large grilled rice cakes that are fragrant and tasty! The menu also includes light meals such as pasta and sandwiches, making it convenient as it opens at 10 am.
