I stopped by when I was in Ginza. I went into the shop and saw that they still had shaved ice on the menu. When I asked what kind of shaved ice they had, I was told it was a mix of plum and apricot. Since I had never tried it before, I ordered that. I also ordered warm green tea and sweet potato yokan. The shaved ice arrived first. It was a small serving with a light red syrup drizzled on top. It had a refreshing sweet and sour taste. There were bits of fruit pulp as accents. At the bottom, there was a sweet and sour agar jelly hidden, which made it enjoyable until the last bite. Then came the tea and sweet potato yokan. I asked for a rich tea today, and they brewed me some Ariake tea from Kagoshima. It had a fragrant aroma and a smooth richness that made me feel relaxed. The elegant sweet potato yokan had a smooth texture with a perfect sweetness from the mashed sweet potato. I was told that this would be the last day for this sweet. I'm glad I got to try it. One of the charms of this shop is being able to learn about the changing seasons through their sweets. Thank you for the delicious sweets and tea today. I will visit again.

I visited the restaurant because I wanted to eat shaved ice. The plum shaved ice was very delicious. The taste was perfect, but I have three complaints. 1. It was served in a glass like you would drink water from, instead of a shaved ice cup, so it melted quickly and was hard to eat. 2. You can't order just the plum shaved ice. It's only available as part of a set with Japanese sweets and tea, which feels like a forced pairing. 3. The plum shaved ice only comes in a small size. I also ordered matcha and kuzuyaki. It was my first time trying kuzuyaki, and it tasted like a black sugar-flavored mochi, which was enough after one bite. It also looked plain. Lastly, they served a warm drink with cherry blossom petals floating on top. It was tasty with a nice cherry blossom scent. The total cost was 1485 yen. I will try going back next year to have shaved ice again.

<8.28-9.23 Bar Evening Calm Small Exhibition️>8.15, a story about how my annual enjoyment is gradually increasing Last year, I was shocked by Chanoha's tea leaves, which I started on a whim. This year, I was able to receive the limited edition ice Goho bin, which is only available for a short period in the summer. The store, located in a corner of Matsuya B1F, which is always crowded, was full even on weekdays during the Bon festival week. I entered at a good time and immediately placed my order. Everyone was enjoying warm tea and seasonal Japanese sweets. I sat at the end of the L-shaped counter, trying to blend in. The order was completed quickly. The size, as in the previous year, may not come across well in the photos, but it's really big. It took a bit of time for the ice to be served. The refreshing plum syrup and fine ice were as delicious as ever. It was a soothing coolness. The fact that there are many parts without syrup is rather nice and balanced. Inside, there are plums, plums, apricots, blueberries, agar, etc. They all appear suddenly towards the end, so it was a continuous surprise last year. You can also have a drink brewed here. This time, I tried the recommended Japanese black tea. It was gentle and warmed my body that had cooled down again. Although it makes you feel relaxed with something warm, there are people waiting in line behind you, so I quickly give up my seat. I'm glad I could experience this taste again this year. Thank you for the meal. Here is an update on the story of being able to do sauna activities in the summer with a sauna hat. I took note of some unexpected effects. In addition to reducing the phenomenon of hair becoming rough due to heat, the visible amount of white hair has also decreased. It seems that the dryness or heat of the dry sauna affected the melanocytes. Since using the sauna hat, there are many roots of fallen hair that have turned black again, and when I look in the mirror, I feel like I have gone back 2-3 years. It's good for things to naturally decay, but it was still nice to see them return, so I wanted to share. Where will you go tomorrow?

This is a shop that I always visit whenever I go to Ginza. The interior is a quiet and soothing space that doesn't feel like it's inside a department store. I look forward to the seasonal flowers and trees inside the shop. In the past, they used to offer various teas with a full course meal, but it seems like it's no longer available after the pandemic, which is a shame. The traditional sweets and tea are delicious, but I always look forward to the shaved ice they offer for three months in the summer. In the bustling Ginza area, this shop provides a relaxing and comforting atmosphere. The prices are reasonable, and it's a great place where you can feel comfortable dining alone.

Today, I visited the Ginza, Higashi-Ginza, and Ginza Itchome areas. This is a tea shop located in a department store basement. While they mainly sell tea, there is also a tea room at the back where you can enjoy tea. Looking back at the photos later, I couldn't believe it was in a department store basement. Memories can be vague and uncertain. The concept of a "tea room in a department store basement" seems like a dream created by my subconscious mind from the depths of information gathered. Oops! I watched a film by Mamoru Oshii before writing this review, so I ended up using complicated words that I don't even understand myself. I love Mamoru Oshii's work, though. It's amazing how he does things his own way, like in "Angel's Egg," even though it might not be the best for sales. Anyway, back to the tea room that seems like a department store basement. The tea shop entrance looks normal, but the tea room inside is a completely different space. Soft lighting, bamboo leaves, and a bamboo fountain create a quiet space where you can focus on tea away from the noisy department store environment. The tea room only has about 6-7 seats, creating an intimate atmosphere. Many of the customers were foreigners, and the staff spoke English fluently. I wonder how people find out about these kinds of places, even Japanese people probably don't know about them. They offer a set of tea and wagashi (Japanese sweets) or options like shaved ice or courses. Since the time limit was about 30 minutes, I chose a neutral option. Here's what I had: - Matcha: Refreshing matcha served in a glass with ice. The freshly made matcha was delicious, with a smooth and rich taste of bitterness, followed by a hint of astringency and sweetness in the aftertaste. They also offer refills, which was nice. - Starlight: A wagashi dessert inspired by stars floating in space, with a tangerine ball inside a translucent agar jelly. It had a smooth texture with a moist red bean paste filling. - Ito Maki: A delicate wagashi with a thin layer of pink kimono fabric on top, filled with a smooth red bean paste. The bitterness of the matcha complemented the sweetness of the red bean paste. It was a delightful experience to leisurely enjoy tea in a solemn atmosphere. It was a wonderful time. Thank you for the meal!

Snack ■ Matcha and Sweets ¥935 (tax included) Located on the basement floor of Matsuya Ginza, a tea specialty store called "Chano Ha Matsuya Ginza Store" opened in 1982. The store sells tea leaves and Japanese sweets, and also has a tea room where you can enjoy freshly brewed Japanese tea. The interior of the store is very calm, with dim indirect lighting and plants that evoke the four seasons of Japan, making you forget that you are in a basement. With only 6 counter seats, the quiet atmosphere is further enhanced. I ordered a set of matcha and sweets. The menu also includes other tea and sweets options, as well as seasonal sweets. After about 8 minutes, a cool glass tray with matcha and fresh sweets arrived. The freshly brewed matcha was exquisite. The process of brewing tea is also a highlight of this store. It's also nice that you can get a refill of matcha. The combination of sweet red bean paste and the bitterness of matcha was an elegant moment. If you feel like tasting Japanese tea in Ginza, or want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Ginza, why not visit the "tea room" at Matsuya Ginza?

Great atmosphere, amazing matcha hot drink followed by cherry blossom tea, with an additional matcha cold drink and a complimentary refill. Traditional Japanese sweets displayed at the entrance. Limited seating but surprisingly not much of a wait to get in. Definitely want to go back in the summer. Thinking of trying to make matcha at home now.

Today, I indulged in luxury in Ginza! After finishing my errands, I realized that it's now the season for new tea. So, I decided to visit "Chano Ha." I opted for the "Sencha confectionery set (935 yen)" with an additional tea (440 yen). I chose the recommended "Mizuki (kudzu confectionery)" for the sweet, but I was unsure about which type of tea to pair it with. I sought advice from the staff and ended up choosing the "Ogasawara (Miryoku) Mild" from Makinohara, Shizuoka and the "Azera (Miryoku) Strong" from the upper reaches of the Tenryu River in Shizuoka. The differences in color and taste between the two types of green tea were astounding. The process of making green tea involves ten steps, and it was clear that the differences in the second step influenced the final product. The "Ogasawara" tea had leaves that expanded and swelled up in the teapot, while the "Azera" tea had a more traditional appearance. Comparing the two teas side by side really highlighted their unique characteristics. It was a valuable learning experience. Lastly, the "Mizuki (kudzu confectionery)" was a refreshing and springy traditional Japanese sweet, perfect for the season.

I attended a tea seminar hosted by an acquaintance and learned about this cafe. The cafe was small with only 5 seats at the counter, and it was fully occupied. There was one person waiting, and I decided to wait as well. I was able to get a seat without much waiting time. The menu included a limited-time Azuki Zenzai with tea (Sencha or Matcha) for 1,650 yen, tea (Sencha or Matcha) with sweets for 880 yen, and Gyokuro with dried sweets for 1,210 yen. I chose Sencha without hesitation. I learned at the seminar that the most common tea variety in Japan is "Yabukita," but I requested a different variety called "Yutakamidori," which they were able to prepare. The tea was a deep green color, almost resembling Matcha. It had a refreshing taste with no bitterness and a clear aftertaste. The atmosphere of the cafe was cozy and relaxing, perfect for enjoying tea and sweets.

During my trip to Hakone, I tried the Chimoto's yomogi mochi and it was delicious! The soft, gentle sweetness of the mochi made me want to keep eating it forever (lol). I was thinking of going to Chimoto in Meguro to buy Yagumo mochi, but since I didn't have any plans to go to Meguro, I found out that you can buy Yagumo mochi at Chano-ha in the basement of Matsuya Ginza, so I bought some there. The eat-in corner was full, so I got 5 pieces to go. The mochi was indeed soft, fluffy, and chewy, and it was delicious. Thank you for the meal ^^

After watching a movie, I wanted to eat shaved ice, so I aimed for Kakigoriya Okame, but there was a long line. I heard there was a shop called Chano Ha inside Matsuya Ginza, so I came to check it out. There were only 5 seats, but the calm interior made it worth the wait. We ordered the shaved ice and tea set (1320 yen), with hojicha shaved ice and matcha tea. I added sweet potato wagashi to my matcha tea (330 yen), and my wife added edamame wagashi (330 yen). The hojicha shaved ice had a fluffy texture, similar to Taiwanese shaved ice, with hojicha flavor. It's recommended to drizzle the honey provided, but it's a bit sweet, so it's better to use it sparingly. The matcha tea was delicious, and the sweet potato wagashi was also tasty, but the edamame wagashi had a restrained sweetness that was really enjoyable. They even served cherry blossom tea at the end, making me feel like a kaiseki meal was about to begin.

"Sakanaya" is a Japanese tea specialty shop located in the Matsuya Ginza underground food street. One of their popular summer menu items is the "Ice Gohoubin," a voluminous shaved ice dessert. It features a bottle filled with syrup-soaked plums, apricots, berries, and other fruits, all arranged on a bed of agar. Unlike the popular sweet and oily sauces commonly found on shaved ice desserts, this one offers a refreshing sweetness that highlights the fruits' natural acidity. The ice has a soft pink gradient, creating a magical appearance in the dimly lit store. The final touch of syrup soaking into the dessert changes its texture, making the "Gohoubin" a unique and memorable treat. Despite the long queues outside other shaved ice shops in the hot Ginza area, this shop offers a cool waiting environment, adding to its appeal during the summer."

I was told in a comment that you can also buy the Yagumo Mochi at Chanoyu at Matsuya Ginza, so I went to check it out. I needed to dispose of used Nespresso capsules and was planning a Mt. Fuji climb, so I thought it would make a good snack. Chanoyu is located near the entrance of Gato Festa Harada, on the right side. They also have a cafe. They were selling the Yagumo Mochi in sets of 5 (1080 yen) or as a set with green tea. I had only bought 2 at Chimoto, so I hesitated a bit but ended up buying the set of 5 since it lasts a bit longer. The Yagumo Mochi was presented more as an original snack from Chanoyu rather than the way Chimoto promotes it. If you've only bought it here, you might not be familiar with Chimoto. However, the Yagumo Mochi is still delicious! When I was exhausted and losing my appetite on Mt. Fuji, I tried eating it and I was able to. It's fluffy, soft, and delicately delicious. Highly recommended!

There is a quiet tea shop here where the staff will make tea right in front of you. Watching them pour every last drop makes me feel at ease. You can also get a refill of tea. It's not too crowded, so it's a good place to stop by when you're tired in Ginza.

A Japanese tea specialty shop in Ginza. It is located within a 5-minute walk from Ginza Station, on the basement floor of Ginza Matsuya. I went there around 2:30 PM on a Saturday and there were 2 groups ahead of me, so I had to wait for about 40 minutes as there are only about 5 seats inside. They also sell a variety of tea leaves at the storefront. Inside the shop, there is a large tree with water flowing beneath it, creating a calming atmosphere as if you were watching a clear stream in nature. Today, I had the following: Most people seem to order a tea set with sweets, but they also have curry, among other options. They offer sencha, matcha, and gyokuro teas. I had the matcha and sweets set (880 yen). Since it's a counter-only seat, you can watch the matcha being prepared right in front of you. You can choose the type of sweet, and I chose white bean paste. The tea set arrived in about 10 minutes, served with iced tea. You can have up to 2 cups of tea. The sweet was like a grass dumpling with a prominent sweetness of white bean paste. It really goes well with the matcha. The ambiance of this place in the Ginza department store basement, with its calming and stream-like setting, along with the pricing, is sure to make it popular. Thank you for the meal!

I found some unique inari sushi at Chanomiya located in the basement of Matsuya Ginza! It's called "Yuzu Vinegar Rice Black Rice Inari" priced at 486 yen (including 8% tax) for a pack of 3. The inari sushi is slim and the scent of yuzu is gentle, making it suitable for everyone.

I had tried to enter a few times but it was always full so I gave up. In the basement of Matsuya Ginza, there is a modern Japanese space. There is an L-shaped counter with water flowing from a protrusion at the corner, creating a stylish design. I chose the sencha and sweets set (880 yen). You can choose from various types of tea and sweets. I chose a refreshing Uji tea. The lighting was slightly dimmed, and I enjoyed my tea while listening to the soothing sound of flowing water.

This is a review of a tea room located in the basement of Matsuya in Ginza. Despite its small size, the interior is well-designed and very cozy. I ordered a bowl of gyokuro tea with dried sweets for 1,210 yen. The first steeping was done by the staff and it was incredibly sweet and smooth, almost like drinking syrup. Subsequent steepings brought out the true flavors of the tea, with bitterness and umami. The dried sweets were made with wasanbon sugar, which was exquisitely sweet and refined. It was a delightful tea time experience. The location is very convenient, just a short walk from the Ginza underground passage. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

On July 15, 2021, I visited the basement floor of Matsuya Ginza for the first time. They also sell tea at the storefront. The cafe area has dim lighting and flowing water, creating a unique atmosphere. There are only five seats, so there may be a short wait depending on the timing. This time, we ordered "Matcha and Sweets" (880 yen). I had it with ice, while my wife had it hot. The matcha had almost no bitterness or astringency, it was creamy with a strong tea aroma and sweetness, very delicious. I tried cold matcha for the first time, and it was also good. The sweets that came with it were different for my wife and me, but taste-wise they were not that different. They were mildly sweet and refreshing, complementing the matcha well. I was recommended to have a refill for the ice without any additional charge, and the hot matcha came with cherry blossom tea. In the middle of Ginza, we were able to leisurely enjoy delicious tea and the atmosphere.

I heard that you can drink new tea in Uji. The new tea was delicious. The fuzz was floating nicely too. For those who are knowledgeable about tea and can brew it well themselves, it might be good, but for someone like me who is a green tea amateur, I wished the staff would make a second steep or a second cup for me. Also, the tea sweets were really mediocre. The kuzumochi was okay, tasty, but there was this unique plum-like sweet wrapped in cow skin that was really strange and had a weird taste. It made me wonder why they thought it was okay to serve that. Overall, it was a traditional tea shop.
