I received a wonderful dessert from a couple who are very dear to me. They always prepare carefully selected treats for me because they know how much I love sweets. This cute "Petit Ohagi" was a first for me! Not only the size, but also the colors are lovely. It seems that foreigners often say "kawaii! kawaii! So cute!" when they see Japanese sweets, and "kawaii" has become a common word nationwide. The shop "Kotafuku" wishes for many small fortunes. Inside the box are 8 adorable ohagi lined up. And all 8 of them have different flavors! From ancient rice ohagi to black sesame ohagi, Earl Grey and lemon ohagi, Kyoto matcha ohagi, roasted tea ohagi, kinako ohagi, and walnut and cinnamon ohagi. I was excited to try them all. They are made with completely natural ingredients and the anko is made with Hokkaido-grown azuki beans blended with sugar. The mochi is made with attention to detail, adjusting the water content according to the temperature and humidity of the day to ensure a soft and fluffy texture. Each ohagi was delicious, but my favorite was probably the red bean ohagi. The unique flavors like Earl Grey and lemon, and walnut and cinnamon were also very fragrant and tasty. Thank you for always giving me such cute and delicious souvenirs. It was a feast!

I took a break at the ohagi shop "Kotafuku" near the approach to An'yo Kinpira Palace. This shop was previously featured on "Matsuko's Unknown World." They offer about 10 flavors of ohagi, including ancient rice, berry, yuzu lemon, and pistachio. It's a fun experience. Many items were sold out, so I tried the classic sweet bean paste flavor. It was a small, elegant, and delicious ohagi. Thank you for the meal. Koneko To Issho Project.

Next to Asakusa Kinpira-gu Shrine, there is a new ohagi shop that offers about 10 different types of ohagi that look great for Instagram. Despite appearing to target young people, the shop is actually run by a kind old man who serves each customer attentively. I purchased the an butter and yuzu lemon flavors. Both were delicious with their chewy mochi rice. The an butter had the expected taste, recommended for butter lovers. The yuzu lemon was refreshing with a hint of sweetness from the anko filling.

"Kotafuku" is a new shop that offers a unique combination of "really delicious tofu" and meticulously handmade "ohagi" made with additive-free ingredients. The shop is located a little west of the intersection of Higashioji-dori and Kitaioji-dori, in front of the entrance to Yasaka Shrine. The shop has a simple and modest appearance with the words "Kotafuku" on the right and "Kyomei-san's tofu" on the left. In the glass display case, freshly made ohagi is lined up daily. The shop offers various types of ohagi depending on the season, available for purchase individually or in boxes of 8 or 12 pieces. The prices range from 220 yen to 270 yen per piece. Despite their colorful appearance, all the ohagi have a subtle sweetness and elegant traditional taste, with a small and cute shape that allows you to try many varieties. These make great snacks or souvenirs. Additionally, the shop sells "Kyomei Foods' Kyonin-an oboro tofu," made with domestically sourced soybeans, priced at 1404 yen for 950g. The tofu has a creamy texture and a natural sweetness, making it suitable as a side dish or dessert. The name "Kotafuku" conveys the wish for as many small blessings as possible. The shop offers cute and delicious ohagi and tofu, perfect for souvenirs. Highly recommended!

I had always wanted to try the ohagi from a certain shop that caught my interest! I received it as a souvenir during a meal gathering in Gion. When I opened the box, I couldn't help but exclaim in excitement. There were various small and cute ohagi, and they were all very delicious. They had different fillings like sweet bean paste, coarse bean paste, kinako (roasted soybean flour), sesame, ancient rice, Saikyo miso, Kyoto matcha, kinako walnut cinnamon, and Earl Grey with lemon. We shared them among the staff and enjoyed them a lot. Everyone was very pleased. Thank you for the treat!

Grandma's colorful ohagi was popular at "Gion Kotafuku" and has been renewed. Located near Kennin-ji Temple and Yasaka Kinkaku-ji Shrine, Gion Ohagi Kotafuku, a shop that was popular for Grandma's colorful ohagi, has been reopened under new management by a tofu shop that had a relationship with Grandma. I went to try it out right away! The ohagi here is very gentle and delicious. They are small and cute, with a variety of unique ohagi that I have never seen before. The ingredients are completely additive-free, with a refined red bean paste and sticky rice that remains soft and chewy even after some time. When I had my husband try it, he said, "My concept of ohagi has changed!" My son said, "There are different flavors! Which one do you want?" He just wanted the plain red bean paste one. Boring. The ohagi come in different flavors such as red bean paste, kinako (roasted soybean flour), ancient rice, miso, hojicha (roasted green tea), yuzu lemon, pistachio, and walnut with cinnamon. Each one has a completely different taste, making it fun to try and ask, "What about this one? What about this one?" I ended up eating almost all of them. Each ohagi is carefully and beautifully made, with a unique flavor, smoothness, and chewiness that impressed me. I was able to encounter ohagi like never before ☺️. It seems that the ohagi available may vary depending on the day.

It's been a while since I purchased ohagi from Kodafuku. The maker has changed from an old lady to the current one, who has moved to this location. This is my first visit since the move. I bought ohagi with various fillings such as whole bean paste, mashed sweet bean paste, butter, Nishikyo miso, sesame soy sauce, and roasted soybean flour. The colorful ohagi with whole grains was delicious. I can't remember the taste of the last time I ate it, but I always end up eating too much of this delicious ohagi. However, I still think I like whole bean paste the best!

A small and cozy little boutique shop! The photo shows sweet red bean paste, seaweed, roasted green tea latte, and sweet red bean butter. Personally, the classic sweet red bean paste was the best. It's best to eat it on the same day as the rice can become hard. In February, there were unique flavors like yuzu, coconut powder, and pink peppercorns.

This is a specialty shop for ohagi located near Yasaka Shrine. The shop was taken over by a tofu shop owner who used to be run by an old lady. I visited on a Saturday and was able to take my time choosing. There are so many varieties that it's hard to decide. The types seem to change depending on the season, so in mid-February, there weren't many colorful ohagi. If you only choose the standard ones, they can look plain in color. The ohagi was delicious. The red bean butter had a subtle sweetness with a good hint of buttery saltiness. They were small and easy to eat, with just the right amount. The yuzu flavor was also very good with a nice yuzu aroma. Since the types of ohagi seem to change with the seasons, I think you can enjoy them anytime you visit. By the way, I learned from a certain program that the third most popular ohagi in Kansai is nori (seaweed). They also had nori ohagi here. I had no idea... Next time, I definitely want to try the nori ohagi.

Today, I went to the Gion area in Kyoto. I visited the popular shop "Kotafuku" which specializes in colorful ohagi, as they had relocated. The shop is now operated by a tofu shop called "Kyoto Ajimishokuhin" and has reopened as a takeout specialty store near Higashioji Street. Previously, they sold a set of 8 colorful ohagi, but now you can purchase them individually for around 200 yen each. The variety of products has increased, and the staff, mostly young women, provided great customer service. I bought four different ohagi: Anbutter, Coconut and Pink Pepper, Ancient Rice with Seaweed, and Soy Milk Caramel. Each had a unique twist, such as butter with sweet red bean paste, coconut powder with pink pepper, seaweed with ancient rice, and soy milk caramel with nuts. The flavors were innovative and the textures were enjoyable. The ohagi at Kotafuku have evolved into modern and creative versions, offering a wide range of options for customers to enjoy. It will be interesting to see if they become a new specialty in Gion.

On January 15, 2022, I went on a winter trip to Kyoto with a friend. We used our own car and took the Hanshin Expressway and the Second Keihan Road to get to Kyoto. We parked at the parking lot of Yasui Konpira-gu Shrine and found out that the colorful "ohagi" shop we wanted to visit had moved and would open at 11:00. We discovered a new shop called "Kotafuku" instead. We also visited a sushi restaurant called "Izuju" before returning to Kotafuku. The shop used to be run by an elderly lady who started making ohagi by herself at the age of 70 but had to close due to her age. Now, the rights to make ohagi have been transferred to a tofu shop called "Kyomeishokuhin." We purchased a set of 12 ohagi flavors and white tofu from Kyomeishokuhin. We then visited Yasui Konpira-gu Shrine, where we saw the "Enmusubi-Enkiri-ishi" stone for cutting off bad relationships and tying good ones. We proceeded to have lunch at Gion Hanamikoji and enjoyed the ohagi later as a snack and dessert. The ohagi set was colorful and delicious, offering a variety of flavors.

In January 2022, I visited Yasui Konpira-gu Shrine in Gion, which is known for cutting off bad relationships and connecting good ones. After visiting the shrine, I checked out Kotafuku located next to the torii gate on the Higashiyama-dori side. Previously, I believe it was located behind Yasui Konpira-gu Shrine, but it moved and reopened here on January 2nd this year. Kotafuku is famous for its colorful ohagi (rice cakes), and on this day, there were a total of 12 varieties available in a set for 3030 yen. The flavors included tomato, soy milk caramel, hojicha latte, apple, coconut & pink pepper, coffee, an-butter, ancient rice, sesame soy sauce, kinako (roasted soybean flour), koshi-an (smooth sweet bean paste), and tsubu-an (chunky sweet bean paste). The lineup seemed more stylish than before. I took them home and enjoyed them right away. The visually appealing and bite-sized ohagi were easy to eat. Personally, I recommend the sesame soy sauce flavor, but the an-butter and ancient rice were also delicious. The tomato and apple flavors had a strong taste of the sweet bean paste. It was a delightful meal!

I went to Gion to find ohagi. It was a bit difficult to find as it was located in a back alley of Gion, but the sense of accomplishment when I arrived at the shop was amazing. I enjoyed ohagi while drinking tea inside the shop. The staff were very kind and the homely warmth of the interior made for a pleasant snack time. Thank you very much.

I received a souvenir at a Gion dining event that is held irregularly. It's an assortment of eight varieties of ohagi from Kodafuku, also located in Gion! The lineup of carefully crafted ohagi includes: ancient rice, sweet bean paste, sesame, pistachio, seaweed, roasted green tea, soybean flour, walnut, and cinnamon. Half of them were familiar flavors, while the other half were new experiences, but all of them were delicious. The combination of ancient rice with sesame, the modern twist of pistachio, and the comforting flavors of walnut and cinnamon were all great. However, in the end, the traditional flavors of sweet bean paste, soybean flour, and Kansai-exclusive seaweed seemed to fit the best. It's nice to discover new tastes, but it seems that you can't beat the familiarity of flavors you've known for a long time. I'm always grateful for the delicious souvenirs that bring me joy. Thank you for the meal.
