Midtown Hibiya on the second floor is my favorite store. The matcha kuzu-ni here is just amazing. Last time I visited with a friend and tried the parfait for the first time. It was delicious, but I still wanted to try the matcha kuzu-ni. This time, I went alone on a Saturday afternoon after shopping in Yurakucho. It was still before 2 pm, but there were already 4-5 groups waiting in front of the store. I was the only one dining solo. Luckily, there was one empty seat at the counter facing the aisle, and I was seated almost immediately. Lucky me! Every time I visit, I think that the existing set menus are slightly different from what I want. This time was no exception. I decided to ask if I could customize my order, and they were very accommodating. I chose the matcha warabi mochi and matcha kuzu-ni tea set, with an additional matcha ice cream. I also had cold white peach hojicha tea. The tea was served first, followed by the three sweets. The matcha kuzu-ni was chewy and delicious, while the matcha warabi mochi was soft and delightful. The matcha ice cream was a perfect addition, especially on a hot day. The combination of the three sweets was heavenly. The white peach hojicha tea was refreshing, although I still prefer hot tea. I enjoyed every bite and sip, and I left fully satisfied. The total cost was ¥1,980, which was just right for me.

The matcha nerikiri was softer and easier to eat than I had imagined, with the matcha flavor not too strong. The mochi with red bean paste inside was a perfect match. Among the items I bought, personally I liked the mochi the best. The matcha cheesecake was not mind-blowingly delicious, but it was still good!

It was past 3 o'clock, so I waited for a bit. While waiting, I was given the menu to look at, and then I was seated at the counter. I ordered a cake set where you can choose 2 items, and a hojicha parfait. The cake set was a good deal because you could also choose a tea, so I chose black soybean tea this time. It was subtly sweet with a nice aroma, and the staff even showed me how to make the second brew.

I visited the store right after it opened on Sunday. There were a few customers already inside, but no one waiting in line. Since there were three of us, we were seated at a table. We quickly ordered the set of matcha warabi mochi, matcha kuzu nerii, and cold-brewed matcha. My companion ordered matcha cream anmitsu, gyokuro, and matcha. Our dishes arrived promptly. The matcha warabi mochi was chewy and rich, very delicious. Next, we tried the matcha kuzu nerii, which had a bouncy texture and a perfect balance of sweetness and richness. It was truly amazing! My companion also loved it! It's no wonder this place is known for being the birthplace of matcha sweets. Later in the afternoon, when passing by the store, there was a long line outside.

I had a matcha parfait. It had rich matcha ice cream with mochi and castella, and the pineapple added a nice tanginess. Under the lightly sweet panna cotta was a sweet red bean paste, which was delightful. It was quiet in the morning on weekends, so I enjoyed a tea set with multiple rounds of tea. I arrived around 1 pm on a weekday and the half-filled interior of the restaurant, a long-established tea shop in Kyoto called Kyohayashiya, which has a cafe-style shop called Midtown in the same building. I was torn between ordering a parfait or a set of two sweets and tea, but I ended up ordering the latter for 1760 yen. It arrived in about 3 minutes, a beautiful and shining green color. The tea was a refreshing hojicha, while the sweets were matcha kuzu nerimochi and matcha warabi mochi. The hojicha had a clean and smooth taste that paired well with the rich matcha sweets. The matcha kuzu nerimochi was surprisingly large and had a unique texture similar to a rich tofu, with a mild sweetness followed by the bitterness of matcha. It was a refined taste that I haven't experienced much in Tokyo. The matcha warabi mochi had a stronger green color and a more elastic texture than the kuzu nerimochi, with a subtle sweetness and a strong matcha flavor. I regretted ordering two similar items and wished I had tried the cakes or ice cream instead. The flavors were spot on, but I could have chosen a more varied selection.

After leaving Senhikoya, I moved to this place. It's a store called Kyoto Hayashi. Of course, I came here for shaved ice, but it's a tea specialty shop, so unlike other stores, it comes with Uji Kin-to with Uji water as a set drink. It also includes additional Uji tea, shiratama, and matcha ice cream, so it's a good deal. However, the ice is not packed tightly, so when you put a spoon in, the ice spills out, which is a bit disappointing. The drink is cold-brewed Gyokuro. Finally, my sweat has stopped. Maybe I'll have shaved ice again next time.

I visited the tea specialty shop in the afternoon for dessert. It was a Sunday afternoon and there were 3 or 4 groups waiting in line. It seemed like many people were using the cafe, so the turnover rate was fast. I ordered the rich matcha parfait. There were two types of matcha parfait, but since it was my first visit, I ordered the one that felt more special. You could choose between ordering it separately or as a set, so I got the set with a hot hojicha tea. There were also two types of hojicha tea available. Since the air conditioning was strong inside Midtown, the hot drink was just right with the parfait or shaved ice.

Ordered a hojicha shaved ice. The sweetness was quite mild, allowing the hojicha flavor to come through. Personally, I'm not a fan of the ice topping - it's hard to eat. The shiratama also got hard quickly because I didn't eat it fast enough. The portion was huge, but I managed to finish it somehow. The ice crumbled like an avalanche! I also tried the matcha, and the bitterness was delicious!

I ordered a set of two desserts, kuzuneri and matcha chocolate cake, along with a tea set. The tea was really delicious. It was served in a teapot, so I could enjoy several cups leisurely. The sugar candies that came with it were cute. The kuzuneri had a rich sweetness to it. The chocolate in the cake was a bit firm, but had a strong chocolate flavor.

I wanted to eat delicious shaved ice, so I did some research and decided to go to Hibiya Midtown because it seemed like I could get in without waiting in line (even though it was a bit crowded). This shop is perfect for matcha lovers, and I ordered the Kogetsu Matcha shaved ice. It was topped with matcha ice cream and shiratama, and it was incredibly delicious. I thought it was a specialty shop, but they also offer other menu items like udon and parfaits besides matcha. They have a wide variety of tea options, and you can choose different sets. Matcha kuzu paste and matcha chocolate cake tea set (limited time cold-brewed Gyokuro) and matcha warabi mochi anmitsu tea set (Gyokuro). Matcha kuzu paste has a unique jelly-like texture that I've never tried before. The matcha chocolate cake is incredibly rich and heavy. The matcha warabi mochi anmitsu has a great balance of flavors. For traditional Japanese sweets, Hibiya has Hayashi Shinbei, and Ginza has Nakamura Fujikichi.

In the hot weather, I stopped by here for some tea with sweets (they had a variety of options to choose from). I ordered a set with a choice of sweets and it was listed as a cake set on the receipt. I already knew I wanted the matcha kuzumochi! After some deliberation, I also chose the matcha kuzumochi. I forgot about the cold brew tea, but it was a refreshing 36 degrees outside. Next time, I want to try a warm tea. The matcha kuzumochi was delicious, with a soft and fluffy texture. There weren't many customers, so I was able to relax. The service was attentive but not intrusive. I drank water quickly at first, and they noticed right away and brought a refill promptly. The water was soft, which was a nice touch. I enjoyed my meal. I had lunch at a place that serves Nishikyo miso keema udon. In addition to the udon, they also served hojicha rice with a soft-boiled egg, and dessert with tea, all for around 1500 yen. The hojicha rice can be enjoyed on its own, or topped with the keema sauce from the udon and dashi broth, which was a sophisticated way to enjoy it, similar to the style of hitsumabushi in Nagoya.

As a dessert for the night, I bought some matcha kuzu paste to take home. When I chilled it and ate it, it had a taste similar to matcha Bavarian cream, with a jelly-like texture, and it was delicious. It was so good that I'm thinking of buying it again next time. Thank you for the meal.

I visited on a regular day and the place was quite popular with almost all seats taken, with people starting to line up. The location inside Hibiya Midtown is great and the place is new and clean. The staff were very friendly. I tried the curry udon which was more cost-effective than the sweets. I had the Keema curry udon with Nishiki miso, which was unique and quite delicious. It had a easy-to-eat flavor. The dish came with broth, rice topped with a soft-boiled egg, which was creative and enjoyable. I had a one-bite size mini matcha anmitsu as well, and they also offer free refills on tea, making it a good deal. I would like to try the dessert set next time ♥

The matcha Mont Blanc and shiratama and red bean topped shaved ice contains matcha ice cream and whipped cream hidden inside, making it delicious until the very end without getting tired of it. It's not overly sweet overall, and the portion size is just right. It also comes with extra matcha syrup. The restaurant has both table seating and a counter with outlets, which is convenient for when your smartphone battery runs low.

The whole thing is dyed a deep green color and looks delicious. It looks like a forest and is beautiful. It is topped with plenty of matcha sauce, matcha Mont Blanc cream, red beans, and shiratama, resembling a parfait. It is huge and impressive. Under the matcha Mont Blanc cream, there is whipped cream hidden, and the combination of matcha and cream tastes very good. As you eat further, you reach the matcha ice cream. Alternating between ice and ice cream keeps the taste fresh. The red beans are not just on top, but also inside, providing variation in taste. There is a separate matcha sauce that you can add for even more deliciousness. I recommend choosing hot tea as your drink. The shaved ice is so huge that it can make you quite cold. The price is a bit high at 2,420 yen (1,980 yen for just the dessert), but for matcha lovers, it is a very satisfying dish.

The store was crowded, but I was able to purchase my takeout quickly. I bought Kuzu Mochi ¥498 and Matcha Mochi ¥367 for my snack. It was a hot day, but I was relieved to know that the ice pack was free for up to 2 hours. Kuzu Mochi is more well-known, but personally, I preferred the Matcha Mochi. I will definitely come back again.
