Concept izakaya of the Shinsengumi at the Ikedaya site. I was interested in it before, but I came because they are collaborating with Hakuoki. I like Okita Souji, so I reserved the Okita Souji course. I had to wait about 10 minutes at the reception, but the result was quite satisfying. Once seated and ordered drinks, the appetizers (forgot to take a picture), salad, and sashimi all came out at once. Maybe they were preparing this in advance, so that's why we had to wait? Then the hot pot was served quickly. The hot pot was a size for one person, but with other dishes, it was just right for two people surprisingly. Then came the pizza, potato, shrimp cutlet, and finally octopus with vinegar miso. Why octopus with vinegar miso at the very end? Usually, it's served first, right? The pizza is like pizza toast. Personally, I was most surprised and happy to see Seagram's Seven Crown included in the all-you-can-drink option. For 3500 yen, I think it's a good deal for this amount of food. Next time, I might visit for individual dishes. If you're a Hakuoki fan, I recommend giving it a try.

The reservation was for 2 people but there were seats prepared for 4 people, the food we ordered came before the appetizer, and the cutlery was not fully set up, which was disappointing in terms of service. It felt like the staff was new, but I wish the manager, who was also on the same floor, had provided more support. Ordering drinks and food through the touch panel was convenient, and they were brought to us quickly, which was good. The collaborative drink was sweet and easy to drink, and the bonito sashimi was delicious.

Whale tempura can be eaten for around 500 yen. The tempura was delicious and there was a generous serving. Ordering was smooth as you can do it on your smartphone. Alcohol and cocktails were a bit pricey, but you can enjoy the atmosphere at the site of Ikedaya. The cocktails are named after Shinsengumi members, which can be fun for kids too.

I heard that Hana no Mai has opened a shop at the famous location of the Ikedaya, known for the attack by the Shinsengumi, so I went to check it out. The staff were all dressed in the traditional attire of the Shinsengumi, and the menu featured items named after historical figures like Sakamoto Ryoma and Kondo Isami. Since it was my first time, I ordered the Sakamoto Ryoma's Staircase Platter for 2160 yen. It included chicken hot pot, mini sashimi, tempura, grilled mackerel, and more, all beautifully presented and quite satisfying for the price. The quality of each dish wasn't extremely high, but considering the price and the setting, I was quite pleased. Ordering was only available through a smartphone, so non-Japanese speakers or those not comfortable with smartphones might find it challenging. Overall, it was a good experience. Thank you for the meal! (^^)

It's a great place to drink at the site of the Ikedaya Incident where the Shinsengumi were involved. Since I was in Kyoto, I ordered a salad with Kyoto leeks and whitebait, and a grilled Kyoto leek on a hot plate with yam. The grilled Kyoto leek on a hot plate with yam was creamy and delicious.

It was a great experience! I was able to see the actual site of the Ikedaya Incident and had a variety of meal options to choose from. As someone who follows a nutritional therapy, I was able to select dishes that I could eat. I ordered the mackerel set meal and the blowfish hot pot, both of which were delicious. I also appreciated the self-service hot water pot available for me to drink hot water for taking medication. The individual dining tables with roll curtains made it feel like a private room, allowing me to enjoy my meal in a calm atmosphere. (I couldn't find the image of the grilled fish set meal page online, so I uploaded it here.)

The Ikedaya Incident was an event in the late Edo period on June 5, 1864, where the Shinsengumi attacked Choshu and Tosa loyalist samurai who were hiding at the Ikedaya inn in Kyoto. The restaurant "Ikedaya Hananomai" was built on the site of the incident, and it used to be a pachinko parlor. The fact that it has now become an izakaya is very pleasing. The restaurant has done a wonderful job with the interior, including the famous long staircase and the second-floor exhibition hall. It is a chain restaurant, but the menu incorporates the historical nuances of Kyoto during the late Edo period, which is very enjoyable. The Omi shamo sukiyaki hot pot is delicious, with the hot soup made from shamo meat and vegetable bouillon. Additional options like chicken meat and vegetables can be added, and the meal concludes with a tasty porridge. The night was wonderful. It had been 8 years since my last visit... I should come back sooner next time.

The experience was so shocking that I decided to enter the store. The atmosphere of the place felt somewhat touristy. I ordered without high expectations, but the food was actually quite delicious. Orders were placed using a touch panel, which was a bit confusing. Still, the feeling of being able to dine at Ikedaya was special. I tried the chicken hot pot, and it was delicious.

The restaurant has recreated the atmosphere of the historic inn Ikedaya, which is associated with the Shinsengumi, and offers many photo spots for tourists to enjoy. They serve dishes like chicken tataki, bonito tataki, and horse meat sashimi at a high cost-performance ratio. You can also enjoy a drink-all-you-can plan at a discounted price with a coupon. The menu item called "After the Battle" is unique and interesting. Reservations for seats only are available, and there is a special offer of a 2-hour drink-all-you-can plan for 999 yen (excluding draft beer).

It was raining and cold, but I ended up ordering cold soba noodles with tempura. The entrance to the restaurant had a Shinsengumi theme, and once inside, they greeted me loudly. The restaurant was located underground and served lunch like a izakaya. It was a regular lunch. Thank you for the meal!

I took my friend to a restaurant in Kyoto that had a concept and atmosphere that perfectly matched the city. It's a great place to visit while sightseeing. The menu includes dishes made with local chicken and a variety of izakaya dishes, making it a great spot for a night out with friends.

I visited Nanomai, a restaurant that has the ambiance of the historic Ikedaya inn where the Shinsengumi made a name for themselves during the Kyoto trip. Although the original Ikedaya has been demolished and replaced with a pachinko parlor, Nanomai has recreated the atmosphere of Ikedaya in their establishment. The interior is decorated with panels and dolls related to history, making history fans happy. The staircase leading to the second floor even resembles a scene from a historical drama. During my visit for lunch, the menu consisted of lunch sets and collaboration cocktails. While the menu items were not directly related to the Shinsengumi, ordering a cocktail came with a Shinsengumi coaster. Intrigued by the coaster, I ended up ordering three cocktails named "Saito's Anger," "Hijikata's Stubbornness," and "Okita's Quick Thinking." Although I am not very familiar with anime, I was told that the coaster designs were from an anime called "Hakuoki." Overall, it is definitely worth a visit for history fans.

The trip to visit historical sites related to the Shinsengumi is definitely here. When you enter the restaurant, you are greeted with the sound of "Goyou aratame" (a traditional greeting). The interior has a grand staircase, flags of sincerity, and panels of Hakuoki, with the staff wearing light blue haori jackets, automatically boosting your excitement. The menu offers a variety of collaboration dishes with Hakuoki, but the lunch menu was completely different from what was advertised on the website. Perhaps due to the impact of the Wuhan coronavirus? I ordered a seafood bowl, while my companion ordered the Shinsengumi Bento. The bowl seemed small at first glance, but it was actually quite filling. The tuna was average, but the large conger eel was sweet and generously topped with sauce, making it delicious. In addition to the red miso soup, the cold chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard) was smooth and had a rich sauce. It paired well with the non-alcoholic cocktails. The taste was that of a chain izakaya, but being able to fully enjoy the world of the Shinsengumi made for a happy lunch.

This shop used to be a pachinko parlor in the past, but after renovating the interior and turning it into an izakaya, it became quite popular. However, it seems to have calmed down a lot now. The izakaya is part of the Hananomai chain, and the food is delicious, but the alcohol is a bit pricey. If a few men go there to eat and drink, it always ends up costing over 5000 yen per person. The location in Sanjo is convenient for meeting up, so it's better suited for using as a first stop to enjoy the atmosphere of Ikedaya like an attraction, have a drink or two, and then move on to the next place.

The scene of the Ikedaya Incident is now a izakaya called Hana no Mai. I went there to have a meal. The appetizer was Hamo with Ume plum, which is lovely and Kyoto-like. You can order from a touch panel menu. The battery runs out quickly, but if you tell the staff, they will replace it. We had dishes like smashed cucumber, Yuba, marinated firefly squid, grilled Jidori chicken, duck meat wrapped in magnolia leaf, fried chicken cartilage, potato fries, extra-large hokke fish, and salmon fried rice.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is incredibly elaborate. It's a place that history buffs would appreciate. I have been traveling and visiting this place for a few years now. In the past, it was quite difficult to get a reservation on Saturdays, but recently it seems to have become a bit easier to get in. Perhaps it's because the dishes are becoming less eye-catching. To be honest, the restaurant seems more geared towards tourists, so I think it would be better to increase the number of Kyoto-style dishes. I feel like there were more of them before. It's a shame that the restaurant's appearance doesn't match the food. However, dishes like conger eel and yuba were somewhat reminiscent of summer in Kyoto.

On the last night of our trip to Kyoto, my companion wanted to visit Hanano Mai in Sanjo Ikedaya! We were able to enter without a reservation. We started with a toast with draft beer, followed by appetizers, assorted grilled chicken skewers, edamame, salad, and assorted tempura. The food, being from a chain restaurant, was safe and delicious. After quenching our thirst with draft beer, we switched to highballs for drinks! My companion, a fan of the Shinsengumi, was deeply moved as we enjoyed our drinks. Thank you for the meal.

I visited Hanano Mai, located on the site where the Ikedaya incident, related to the Shinsengumi, took place. The interior of the restaurant had Shinsengumi-themed decorations and the staff wore light blue haori jackets, creating a lively atmosphere. I had made a reservation for the Saito Hajime course for 4000 yen, which included all-you-can-drink. The seafood dishes, especially the sashimi, were delicious, and other dishes were satisfying as well. However, despite being named after Saito Hajime, the course didn't have a strong Saito Hajime vibe. It might be more enjoyable to order Shinsengumi-themed dishes individually if you are interested in the Shinsengumi.

I visited this place three years ago and this is my second visit. The food comes out very quickly. We started at 5:30 pm and there weren't many people outside. After about 1 hour and 30 minutes, more people started to arrive. It seemed like a year-end party, but most people were foreigners. We ordered 7 dishes, which were just average. The female staff members were kind and I appreciate their service.

Kirin Classic Lager is available in medium bottles, which is great! Before living in Aichi Prefecture, I lived in Kyoto for four years. That was about 30 years ago, so I don't remember seeing Ikedaya back then. On the second day of our Kyoto trip, my wife and I came here for dinner. I thought we would be able to eat in a place with a view of the stairs, but we were guided downstairs instead. We had negiyaki, pizza, and tamagoyaki. Well, at least there was Lager available, so it was fine.

"Located at the site of the Ikedaya Incident during the turmoil of the Bakumatsu period, is the restaurant "Ikedaya Hananomai". Inside the restaurant, there are sets and stairs that recreate the Ikedaya Incident, and the staff wear traditional attire, adding to the unique atmosphere. The menu includes dishes like the Ikedaya Stairs Sashimi Platter and other creatively named items. The menu consists of izakaya style dishes, with a variety of Kyoto local specialties. It's a satisfying restaurant where you can enjoy a meal at a historical site!"
