Located at the southwest corner of Shichijo Shimmachi, it's the Nakau Shichijo Shimmachi store. The building is quite old-fashioned, dating back to the Taisho era, and is designated as a registered tangible cultural property. I visited to pay my respects and enjoy a parent and child bowl after a long time. The interior of the store has been modernized with LED lighting, and there are no traditional lanterns or lamps. I ordered the classic menu items - parent and child bowl (regular), haikara udon (regular), and salad (sesame dressing). As of September 2023 (tax included), the parent and child bowl (regular) costs 450 yen, haikara udon (regular) costs 290 yen, and the salad costs 150 yen. The main dish, the parent and child bowl, is reasonably priced considering the high cost of living. The egg and chicken are tender, and the seasoning is moderate. It's served with sansho pepper for added flavor. While the taste is good, there's a slight sense of carelessness in the preparation. The salad portion is quite small compared to other beef bowl restaurants, and it lacks shredded cabbage. The haikara udon is consistent with minimal variation, with warm udon served in a Kansai-style broth with thick noodles. If you're used to cold udon, it may seem soft. Adding shichimi spice enhances the flavor. In these times, it may be challenging for companies to maintain the same level of quality while cutting costs. Overall, I enjoyed the parent and child bowl, haikara udon, and salad.

Kyoto Station is close by, the second closest after the Kyoto Hachijo Exit store. The sign is classic, typical of Kyoto, not the usual red sign of Nakau. It's a self-service store. Even though it's self-service, the prices are the same. I had breakfast, which included egg and pork miso soup. I like pork miso soup, but the taste seemed a little different this time. It had a stronger citrus flavor. I think I preferred the previous taste. Maybe it was just a coincidence?

I was drawn in by the sign in front of the shop and ended up going inside. I bought a meal ticket at the ticket machine, waited at my seat for a few minutes, and then received my eel rice bowl. When I opened the lid, I saw eel tail meat and shredded omelette on top. I immediately tried a bite of the eel. It had no fishy smell, the meat was tender, not too fatty, and had a refreshing taste. The portion of the meat was not very large. The sauce was on the light side and had a refined taste. Overall, considering the price, it was not bad. The shredded omelette may be necessary to fill the space, but for those who want to eat eel, it may not be needed. At 900 yen, it seems cheap for what you get, but when you think about it in terms of a regular lunch, you could get a set meal with rice and miso soup. If I'm going to spend 900 yen, I'd rather have a set meal with side dishes. It's not bad at all, but I don't think I'll eat the eel rice bowl here again.

This is in Kyoto. The restaurant is located near Kyoto Station, at the southwest corner of Nanajo and Shimmachi. I happened to pass by the front of the restaurant and decided to give it a try even though I only had about 10 minutes before my appointment. I thought lunch might not be possible, but I decided to go for it. When I entered the restaurant, I saw a customer struggling to buy a meal ticket at the automatic ticket machine, and I started to think lunch might not be possible after all. However, when I turned around, I saw another automatic ticket machine on the opposite side, so I quickly purchased a meal ticket there. After buying the ticket, the order was automatically placed, and I waited at my seat. After about 4-5 minutes, my number was called, and I went to the counter to pick up my food. It had been a while since I had visited Nakau, so I was a bit nervous. I managed to get my katsudon and found a seat to enjoy my meal. The taste was not exceptionally delicious, but considering the price, it was good enough. Simple is best! The amount of sauce was just right, not too much. However, I still felt a bit lonely.

Near Kyoto Station, I couldn't find Nakau anywhere. Where is it? Oh, this building? With stained glass? This is Nakau? It's located on the first floor of a modern architectural building that is a registered tangible cultural property. Nakau and Matsuya, even the chain beef bowl restaurants in Kyoto are different from the usual. Anyway, when you enter, it's a self-service style Nakau. They serve charcoal-grilled chicken bowl and beef soba. The creamy egg is a very deep yellow color, it's quite unique. The chicken in the charcoal-grilled chicken bowl tastes very charcoal-y as expected. The beef soba has soba topped with beef bowl ingredients. Nakau has introduced a new dish called "Charcoal-Grilled Oyakodon" on January 26, 2023. It's made by grilling the chicken in the signature "Oyakodon" over charcoal to lock in the flavor and enhance the depth of taste. The chicken thigh meat grilled over charcoal has a juicy and bouncy texture, making it very satisfying to eat. With each bite, the juicy chicken flavor mixed with the creamy egg spreads in your mouth, while the aroma of charcoal stimulates your appetite. Please enjoy this unique dish, "Charcoal-Grilled Oyakodon," at your nearest Nakau or at home.

This is a convenient store to visit when you are in a hurry. Today, I tried something different - the Chicken Karaage Don (small size) for 430 yen, and I added a special egg using the scratch card I got from Nakau. The dish arrived in just 5 minutes, with a generous portion of juicy chicken karaage covered in a special sweet and savory sauce. The rice was also delicious, and the dish was very satisfying. The karaage was crispy and flavorful, and the addition of the special egg made it even better. The yolk was rich and the egg whites were fluffy. Overall, it was a delicious meal.

I visited Nakau after a long time and was surprised to find out that it had become a restaurant that mainly serves oyakodon instead of gyudon. I had no idea... Nevertheless, I chose the "Japanese-style gyudon" which was listed at the bottom of the menu. I ordered a set of chilled tan-tan udon and Japanese-style gyudon (large size). After purchasing the ticket from the machine, I waited at my seat. When my number was called, I received my order at the counter. The round meat-like balls in the tan-tan udon were actually meat miso. I mixed everything well before eating. The udon, though frozen, had a good texture and was delicious with its sharp edges. The gyudon tasted just like the old days. It's junk food, but it's good. It somehow made me feel nostalgic, haha.

Before the holiday, I was having trouble entering any bar alone because they all had an intimidating atmosphere. So, I ended up going to Nakau for the first time in my life. It was perfect for a casual drink and the prices were cheap. I ordered a set of 10 pieces of Tatsutaage with a draft beer for 550 yen, and a Tan Tan Udon (regular size) for 490 yen. I also added another draft beer for 280 yen. The small beer mug was just right for a quick drink. I realized that there are different ways to enjoy Nakau. My range of options has expanded!

While looking for a soba shop on the way back to the hotel, I stumbled upon a tempura udon shop. I decided to purchase a 450 yen tempura udon meal ticket and eat inside the shop. The tempura was warm and freshly fried. I sprinkled shichimi on the udon and enjoyed the gentle broth. The udon noodles had a nice firmness to them, slightly softer than Sanuki udon. The broth was delicious, definitely a taste of Kyoto. It was a great way to replenish carbs after drinking. Since my hotel doesn't include breakfast, I want to revisit this place for morning udon.

I came on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. I ordered the new curry udon. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and relaxing. It was incredibly delicious and warmed my entire body. I am completely satisfied and feeling very happy. My mouth is full of happiness. The menu is extensive, so I want to try various dishes in the future. I am curious about the curry tantan noodles. Thank you for the delicious meal. I will definitely go again. I will savor every ingredient in this world with gratitude. Calling all delicious foods♪ The more I eat, the more power overflows♪

■Visit Date: October 21, 2020■Items Received: Oyakodon (Regular Size)■MEMOVisited on October 21, 2020. It was a random visit due to feeling hungry at an odd hour. Located within the retro-modern Fuji Rapid Building, Nakau stands out with its unique charm. The restaurant has counter seats by the window and table seats towards the back. Today, I had the oyakodon in a regular size. I really enjoy Nakau's oyakodon. The quality at this price point is impressive, and I sometimes crave the taste of Nakau. The hot and gooey texture and flavor are satisfying, but it can be a bit challenging to chew the rice when it's too hot. It was a great experience to savor the taste of Nakau after a long time.■Bloghttps://ay-style.net/?p=54155

I visited a shop when going to Higashi Honganji Temple early in the morning and had a meal there. It was not crowded, so I could enjoy my meal slowly. I chose the cheapest Hiyakara Udon, which was delicious enough. Thank you for the meal.

Actually, it was my first time at Nakau. My family of three entered the restaurant together. Once inside, we used the touch screen ticket machine. I had no idea what Nakau was all about - what they offered, what was recommended, or what kind of specialty they had. So, even when using the touch screen, I had a hard time deciding. I'm sorry. There was a big picture of curry on the poster, so I chose the curry set with salad and miso soup. Since it was my first time using the system, I wasn't sure about it... Water was served with the meal. It seems you don't have to prepare it yourself from the beginning. The curry had a Japanese flavor with a hint of spiciness and was delicious. The pork cutlet was also tasty (though a bit cold). It was a good value and delicious curry. It would definitely be a top choice for a quick lunch! Thank you for the meal.

From Kyoto Station, head up Shinmachi Street and you will see a modern building on Shichijo Street. Built around 1925 as the headquarters of Nikko-sha, a Ford dealer importing T-model Fords for sale. After the war, Fuji Rabbit took over selling and repairing scooters, hence their name is engraved. The facade features symmetrical decorative columns and an arched window in the center. The building is adorned with tire and T-model Ford stained glass, adding a touch of elegance. On the first floor of this building is Nakau, a restaurant where you purchase your meal from a ticket machine and pick it up at the counter. I ordered the low-carb tantanmen with konjac noodles for 340 yen. The konjac noodles are smooth and have a nice texture. The soup is sesame-based but quite mild, so adding some shichimi and soy sauce from the table made it just right. The meat miso has a rich flavor, and there is plenty of green onions. Nakau in the Fuji Rabbit Building offers a unique dining experience, making it a valuable place to enjoy modern architecture in a casual setting.

At Nakau, I only eat meat udon and oyakodon, but once summer comes, I always go for the chilled tantan udon! The chilled tantan udon set with a mini oyakodon and three pieces of karaage is a must-have! In seasons other than summer, tantan udon becomes meat udon for a change of pace... Sometimes I also enjoy curry udon. Nakau is truly amazing! The food is irresistibly delicious! I can't help but go there whenever I have some time... And on the way back, I find myself humming that famous tune... It's such an incredible place every time. Thank you for the wonderful meal as always.

Head west from Kyoto, towards Shichijo, and you'll find Nakau, a 24-hour restaurant on the left side. The retro building may seem out of place. They offer breakfast menu, but I couldn't find a set menu with Hi-Kara Udon. However, they do have a set with seafood options that include Hi-Kara Udon. I ended up ordering a regular Gyudon for 350 yen and a small Hi-Kara Udon for 140 yen from the confusing ticket machine. You pick up your order at the counter and seat yourself by the window. The Gyudon is labeled as "Japanese-style," but it tastes more like a typical instant meal and the portion is small. The Hi-Kara Udon, on the other hand, lives up to expectations.
