When running along Shichijo Street near Kyoto Station, I always notice the word "buffet". Upon closer inspection, I see that on the first floor of Hotel Station Kyoto Nishikan, there is a restaurant called "Yu Yu" that offers a buffet. I happened to be wandering around Kyoto Station and decided to stop by. In front of the restaurant, the recommended buffet menu for the day was "Teriyaki Pork Fillet" for 950 yen per person. I paid the fee at the hotel counter and entered the restaurant across the street. The restaurant had about 14 tables, which was a decent size. I secured a seat and went to get food, with over 20 different dishes to choose from. I decided to try a bit of everything. The buffet included tempura (shrimp, white fish, pumpkin, green pepper), pork fillet with teriyaki sauce, simmered chicken, simmered fish, omelette, various salads (cucumber, mayo, etc.), bonito sashimi, fried chicken, cold shabu-shabu, somen noodles, rice, miso soup, desserts, and more. I felt pressured to eat everything I took. Although I managed to finish, I couldn't eat the rice like chirashi sushi because I was already full. The taste overall was nothing special, but the ability to eat a lot was satisfying. There was a man who had piled up over 5 plates of jelly desserts, so it seems you can indulge in your favorite items. The value for money is high due to the almost unlimited amount of food you can eat, so the price is reasonable. The taste, service, and atmosphere were decent. It can be challenging to find traditional eateries around Kyoto Station, but there are many hotels on the first floor or basement that offer buffet restaurants, which can be convenient when in need.
