Kuma Log 3.6‍❄️ Last night, I watched the WBC game with Hana-chan and Sato-chan at the izakaya "Nomi-dokoro Akamaru." Hana-chan found this place, and we watched the Japan-Korea game on a big screen TV in the second-floor tatami room while drinking a lot of sake (I was forced to drink). They had a variety of sake, and my favorite was "Saku" from Mie Prefecture, which got me really excited↑ Unfortunately, we didn't run out of Saku, so there was no Saku running out call from Sato-chan. It seemed like an old establishment, with a few regular customers already drinking even though it was early. The specialty seemed to be horse meat, so I ordered a platter of horse sashimi and a green tea highball. The green tea highball was delicious, with a strong flavor. However, I thought the prices were a bit high.

Kyoto's last stop, I had been here before and remembered, so I am grateful. This time, it was a busy time and the restaurant was almost full. Still, I was happy to have conversations with the staff. I forgot to take pictures of some dishes because we were chatting, but all of them were delicious and highly recommended. The sake was also recommended, with many options made from Yamada Nishiki rice, known for its strong aroma. We had 4 servings of hot sake, and all of them were delicious. We stayed for about 2 hours, and it felt like the regular customers were there the whole time without leaving. If you plan to visit during busy times, it's recommended to make a reservation.

They have a great selection of various types of alcohol, especially Japanese sake, and a variety of dishes, so I highly recommend it! The local beer is also cheaper to drink compared to other places, but I was too intrigued by the Japanese sake to even try the beer, which is a shame. I will definitely go back!

This is an izakaya in Nishiin, Kyoto, that opens a little early. They have seats and a TV. The friendly mama prepares dishes efficiently, and the drinks are great. The menu includes buri kama for ¥550, tonkatsu for ¥450, and various drinks. The buri kama is big and delicious, perfect with sake. The tonkatsu is crispy and a good value at ¥450. At Saiin, there are few places where you can drink from lunchtime. I arrived early and the place was still quiet, so I had the whole place to myself to start with. The female owner was very talkative and kept chatting with me the whole time. It felt like talking to a friend. I mainly came for sake, and I had a large serving of sake with grilled mackerel which was delicious and satisfying. They offer 140ml servings of sake, with options for 500 yen and 800 yen, and I went for the 500 yen one. They have some rare sake options, so it's fun to explore. Their tonkatsu from the butcher shop was only 450 yen, which seems like they barely make any profit from it! Surprisingly, they have a variety of sauces available as well, so if you like fried food, it's fun to try different sauces. I will definitely visit this place again if I'm in the area. Just before I left, a lot of customers came in and the place was almost full. I guess I timed it right!

Today, I went to have dinner in the area of Saiin. Akamaru is an izakaya styled like a traditional Kyoto townhouse located just a short walk from Hankyu Saiin Station. It is said to have 300 types of sake from all over Japan, making it a well-known izakaya among connoisseurs. Upon entering, I was amazed by the rows of sake lined up in the refrigerator. The owner mentioned that there are no duplicates, so with 5 bottles x 3 rows x 3 tiers = 45 bottles per shelf, and with 8 shelves, they easily exceed 300 types of sake! As someone who doesn't drink alcohol, I opted for a soft drink instead. The atmosphere inside was quite casual, with sake enthusiasts enjoying themselves. We were served edamame as an appetizer. Looking at the menu, the food options seemed reasonably priced for an izakaya. I decided to try the dishes named after the restaurant. I ordered the Akamaru Salad, a fresh salad with cherry tomatoes featuring the restaurant's logo. It was filled with chopped ham and plenty of vegetables, providing a satisfying crunch. Next, I ordered the recommended dish of Stir-fried Japanese Beef Liver with Leeks. The piping hot dish was delicious, with the combination of liver and leeks being a classic flavor. Even without being able to enjoy the sake, I had a good time soaking in the atmosphere. I'll definitely come back when I can drink!

I heard that it was the head chef's birthday the other day, so I hurriedly went to the restaurant on the night of the 17th by myself. I have never seen a place with as much sake as there is at Akamaru-san's restaurant. They also have a secret menu for food, which is one of my favorite places. Since it was a celebration, we opened a bottle of champagne. I couldn't stay long as I was already drinking at another place, but I was glad to be able to celebrate the head chef who always takes care of me. I enjoyed the evening with my favorite shoulder ham as a snack. Please continue to take care of yourself and keep up the good work. Thank you always.

I wanted to drink sake, so I came to this second bar. There is a standing area and a seating area, and this time I chose to sit. The owner here is unique and funny to talk to. They recommend sake based on your preferences. There are a variety of snacks available, and the place was full on this day. They also have a variety of local whiskies. After enjoying a BBQ, we visited this restaurant that offers about 100 different types of local sake. The entrance of Akamaru-san is standing style, and there are counter seats at the back. However, this time we were able to reserve the sunken kotatsu seating that we had been eyeing for a while. The room has a cozy atmosphere like a relative's living room, but it is connected to the counter and window, making ordering and food delivery smooth. Still feeling a bit under the weather from a cold, I stuck to "Shikuwasa Chu-hi" drink. The appetizer of "edamame" turned out to be "black edamame" and was surprisingly delicious! After toasting with bottled beer, the group quickly moved on to sake. We tried the reasonably priced "Sake of the Week" at 120ml for 500 yen. The snacks included "salted mackerel," "fried potatoes," "ume crystal," and "real wasabi kelp." The members enjoyed selecting their favorite sake one after another. Akamaru-san not only has a great selection of sake but also an impressive variety of sauces. With about 10 different sauces available, we ordered fried food and had a sauce tasting competition. We tried the "chicken tenderloin with large shiso leaves (for 2 people)" with the spicy "original sauce" poured over grated daikon. We tasted each sauce in small dishes, which was a first to experience such a variety of sauces at once. The "squid rings" with tartar sauce were also delicious. Akamaru-san is recommended not only for sake lovers but also for those who enjoy sauces. The comfortable atmosphere led to a stay of over 4 hours. I would like to visit again on a Saturday from 2:00 p.m. when I am feeling better. *The operating hours on weekends and holidays are surprisingly from 2:00 p.m. to midnight! At the start of the new year, Akamaru was bustling with people as usual! Although the counter seats at the back were just about empty, the rest of the restaurant was almost full. Instead of trying various types of Japanese sake, I opted for shochu on the rocks and ordered ham katsu, krikoro, and other dishes to savor with different sauces. There was a spicy habanero sauce available, but in the end, I still preferred the usual Worcestershire sauce the most (lol). It's fun to try different sauces, so I recommend coming here to taste them. The octopus was also nice and chewy.
