Friday 7:58 AM
Visited SOT Coffee Kyoto Nanajo store for some coffee. They were kind enough to let me in a little early.
Single origin latte - 650 yen
Uji matcha cheesecake - 600 yen
The cheesecake was only available in matcha flavor that day. It was creamy with a smooth texture. They had the mascot character Torarin from the National Museum displayed. It's close by, after all. They have Wi-Fi available.
Friday 7:58 AM
Visited SOT Coffee Kyoto Nanajo store again, and they let me in a little early once more.
Espresso - 500 yen
Cheesecake - 600 yen
They had plain cheesecake available that day. I had planned to get the tuna muffin melt with a salty flavor, but I'm easily swayed at the register. When they said, "We have plain cheesecake today," I couldn't resist going for the special item. The espresso had a strong acidity, which paired well with the rich cheesecake. I got cheesecakes to go for my coworkers (1 matcha, 2 plain). It was a spontaneous decision, but they seemed happy. I'll visit again. Thank you for the meal.

Visited on Saturday around 8:30 AM. There were two groups of customers already there. I entered, placed my order and paid at the counter, then chose a seat at my favorite spot. This time, I chose the table closest to the front. I ordered the following items:
- Matcha Latte Ice (650 yen)
- Uji Matcha Cheesecake (600 yen)
Although the Temmabashi store also offers Matcha Basque Cheesecake, I decided to try this one as it has a different taste. It had a more sophisticated and adult flavor compared to the one at the Temmabashi store. The cheesecake had a moist and smooth texture and is so popular that it tends to sell out early in the morning. The restaurant had a traditional Kyoto feel, with tatami seating at the back. Each store has a different concept, so you can enjoy different menus at different locations. It's great that they open early in the morning.

Before 1 o'clock on Saturday, following a Chinese lunch, I found myself on the main street in front of Toyokuni Shrine. The street was wide and impressive at first, but quickly narrowed down to where the restaurant was located. I often pass through Honmachi Street that runs north to south on my way back, and I had noticed a new store that caught my attention. I ordered at the counter and sat on the bench along the wall to enjoy my meal. The back of the restaurant had a raised tatami area with hanging scrolls and traditional cushions, creating a nice atmosphere. The iced coffee was refreshing and delicious. I look forward to trying the hand drip coffee or nut latte next time. The original store and roastery is located in Temmabashi, Osaka, and has been ranked third in the world by the Coffee Review magazine. While it may be difficult to visit the main store, I am grateful to be able to enjoy the same coffee nearby.

You can enjoy specialty coffee that won the third place in the world in 2021 in the "CoffeeReview" magazine in Osaka Temmabashi at the coffee specialty store SOT COFFEE, which has also opened in Kyoto Shichijo! The store offers a wide variety of rare varieties and single-origin coffees with special processing methods that coffee lovers will surely enjoy. The exterior of the store, renovated from an old folk house, is full of Kyoto charm, and there is also a tatami-raised seating area at the back of the store, adding to the Kyoto atmosphere. Order: Coconut Latte - A latte with chocolate and coconut spread on the cup lid. Enjoy the crispy coconut and chocolate together like a dessert. Uji Matcha Basque Cheesecake - A Basque cheesecake with strong flavors of matcha and cheese, allowing you to enjoy both tastes. It is located near Sanjusangendo and Toyokuni Shrine, making it a perfect place to relax during your Kyoto sightseeing.

A popular cafe from Osaka opened in Hyogo last year, and now it's open in Kyoto since May this year (currently in pre-opening). I heard the grand opening will be in July!! The cafe offers authentic coffee and has a beautiful interior filled with Kyoto vibes. It's still a hidden gem since it's not well-known yet, so check it out now!

Today, I visited a cafe that recently opened in the Kyoto area near Keihan Shichijo station.
SOT COFFEE KYOTO is located on the main street leading to Toyokuni Shrine. It seems to be a branch of "SÖT COFFEE ROASTER" which offers self-roasted coffee in Kyoto. The pre-opening was on May 7, 2023, and today, May 21, is the soft opening. It seems to be open only on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) for now. The grand opening is planned for June, possibly in July.
Inside the cafe, they sell self-roasted coffee beans. There are six different types of beans available for purchase starting from 100g. If you want to enjoy a cup inside the cafe, they will brew it using hand drip for around 550 yen to 990 yen per cup, depending on the type of beans.
During the soft opening, they offer food items such as Uji matcha Basque cheesecake, bikini sandwich, and nougat bar. The roasting method and flavor chart are also listed, making it easy to choose.
I ordered their signature "Goshiki Dark Blend" this time. It is a blend of Colombian beans with Mandheling beans, roasted deeply to create a rich flavor. The coffee is served in a unique pot-shaped cup, and it has a full-bodied taste with a deep finish.
I also tried the Uji matcha Basque cheesecake, which was creamy and slightly infused with matcha flavor. It was a generous portion and paired well with the coffee.
Overall, the coffee and food had a satisfying volume, and the staff were friendly and willing to answer questions about the beans and brewing methods. It's a wonderful cafe for coffee enthusiasts who enjoy brewing at home. I look forward to visiting again after the grand opening!

■A specialty coffee shop that won third place in the world in the 2021 Coffee Review magazine in the United States has opened its first store in Kyoto, where you can also enjoy Basque cheesecake. The shop is located near Kyoto City Museum, Sanjusangendo Temple, and Toyokuni Shrine, making it a convenient spot for tourists. The shop is housed in a traditional Japanese house, with tatami seating that adds a Kyoto-like atmosphere.
■Order (tax included)
- Uji Matcha Basque Cheesecake: 550 yen
The Uji Matcha Basque Cheesecake at the Nakanoshima store is also available here, but they use a different matcha in the Kyoto Nana-jo store. The crust made with flour is quite firm, with the cheese flavor slightly overpowering the matcha flavor, allowing you to enjoy both flavors. As you move towards the outer edge, it becomes more baked, enhancing the cheese flavor.
- Single Origin Espresso Latte: 600 yen
This latte has low acidity and a creamy taste, with a subtle peach-like aroma. The grand opening is on May 21st, and the menu may change, so I look forward to visiting again!
