In Gioncho, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto City, there are two stores, the main store and the Shijo store, of "GION GOZU". The name "GION GOZU" is derived from the deity of Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto, also known as Gion Tenjin, who has been revered as the deity of epidemics since the Heian period, called "Gozu Tenno". The main store opened on August 4, 2021, and the Shijo store opened on August 12. This shop is a confectionery store that sells carefully handmade sweets such as the beloved Gion pudding that has been loved for over 10 years in Gion, as well as "Gion Kolne" and "Gion Eclair". I visited the nearby Shijo store this time. The Shijo store operates from 10:00 to 22:00, while the main store operates from 17:00 to 26:00, which is an interesting business model starting from the evening until late at night. The location is about a 5-minute walk from Gion Shijo Station, along Shijo Street. I visited the store around 9:40 pm on a weekday Friday, and there were no other customers in the store except for me. The pudding was still quite available, but most of the other sweets were sold out, and the showcase was almost empty. The matcha pudding I wanted to try was already sold out, and there was only a small amount of Earl Grey left. This time, I purchased four types of pudding. Unlike hojicha, this one has a strong Earl Grey flavor, like a fragrant milky tea. [Gion Pudding Milk Chocolate] (Product Description) Melting milk chocolate pudding. The cocoa aroma spreads in your mouth, melting away smoothly. When mixed with the caramel at the bottom of the pudding, it changes to a flavor reminiscent of chocolate-flavored caramel, making it a pudding that is delicious twice. It looked rich, but surprisingly, the sweetness was moderate. When mixed with caramel, the balance of sweetness was just right, creating a flavor that I really liked. This time, I could only buy pudding, so I would like to try different sweets next time. Thank you for the meal!

It's a shop that sells pudding and eclairs. When I visited around 9 pm on Saturday, all the eclairs were already sold out. There were still several types of pudding available, with the Sakura pudding being a limited-time offering. I didn't realize that I was supposed to eat it with the sauce at the bottom, so I ate the sauce separately and it had a slightly bitter taste. Both the eclair and the pudding are delicious, though I've had them before.

If you want to quickly buy souvenirs in Gion, I recommend the pudding here. There are various flavors, but my favorite is plain. However, due to the recent increase in prices, the price of pudding has been gradually rising. If it gets any higher, I will cheat on it with Ohayo's baked pudding.

In front of Yasaka Shrine. Along Shijo Street. Next to the Kanji Museum, there is an extremely accessible eclair specialty shop next to Starbucks. The inside of the shop is small, but there is seating available for eating in. There are about two tables. Takeout is also possible. I ordered the seasonal fruit eclair for 470 yen and a small bottle of iced tea for 50 yen. My companion ordered the matcha eclair. The taste of the eclair from the eclair specialty shop is definitely different from convenience store eclairs. The pastry is firm and crispy. It was a bit difficult to eat with a fork, so I ended up just taking a bite. It had strawberries and whipped cream on top, which got me excited! It looked like a Christmas cake! The atmosphere inside the shop is quiet, not crowded, on a weekday around 2 pm. I was able to eat slowly! Personally, I thought the 50 yen iced tea was cheap and a good deal☆

Popular sweets shop in Gion, Kyoto. Their pudding is a hit and the shop is always sold out. Located right off Shijo Street, near Yasaka Shrine, this small shop is a must-visit. When I went in the evening, the coronet was almost sold out. I managed to get the last chocolate banana coronet and one of the two remaining fruit tarts. The coronet had a crispy pastry and delicious cream filling! The tart had a perfect balance of caramel and fruit. You can order for delivery, but coronets and tarts are only available in-store. I will definitely go back for more!

After lunch, I went for a leisurely walk to find souvenirs in Gion. I came across a shop that sells my favorite "purin" (pudding) and bought a box of four different flavors of Gion purin. The flavors were plain, matcha, black sesame, and milk chocolate. Since it was still hot outside, I also bought a cooling bag to keep them fresh. I tried the matcha flavor first, and it was rich and smooth. The balance of the strong matcha flavor with the slightly bitter caramel was really delicious. The purin has a shelf life of 3 days, so I look forward to enjoying the rest after my meal. Oh, and I also noticed some colorful eclairs that looked tempting. Thank you for the meal!

The texture was smooth and not too sweet, with a nice balance of bitterness in the caramel. It's a bit pricey at 500 yen, so maybe just a one-time treat.

The exterior and interior have a stylish atmosphere, and I decided to enter the shop. Despite it being before noon, all the eclairs were sold out? They explained that they didn't receive any eclairs today, so they only had leftovers from yesterday. I tried the new limited edition chestnut eclair in a take-out size. The cost-performance ratio wasn't great, but the taste was delicious with a firm pastry and chestnut cream that matched well. It's a good size for eating on the go! The staff were friendly and engaging, creating a pleasant atmosphere in the shop.

After having lunch, I came across this store on my way to Kyoto Station. It's located very close to Yasaka Shrine, on the first floor of Gion Apa Hotel. This shop specializes in three types of sweets: pudding, cornets, and éclairs. The pudding looked delicious, but it was in a jar and seemed heavy, so I opted for the cornets and éclairs this time. The sweets were very colorful, maybe aiming for Instagram-worthy visuals. I bought cornets in three different striking colors: blue was salted caramel, chocolate, and strawberry. The éclair was raspberry flavored. The cornets had a crispy texture, but the butteriness of the dough was lacking, giving it a somewhat cheap taste. The cream was okay, but the pastry was not quite up to par, so it was a bit disappointing. I preferred the éclair over the cornets. Given the location, the prices were understandably high, but overall, I don't think my family will be returning for the cornets and éclairs. Thank you for the meal.

On a regular Wednesday at 11:40, I entered the store and it wasn't crowded. It seems like they recently relocated or opened a new branch? Anyway, I made a purchase! I bought 4 Gion puddings, plain flavor, for ¥480 each, totaling ¥1920 including tax. They were very delicious. Thank you for the meal.

A small, cute shop with white décor and lovely staff. They offer adorable sweets made with high-quality ingredients. I initially planned to buy an eclair, but ended up getting tempted by the pudding in the showcase. I ended up purchasing the pudding - plain, black sesame, and roasted green tea flavors. Personally, I loved the roasted green tea pudding the most. It was creamy and delicious. Next time, I'll definitely get the eclair as well.

And for a late-night snack, I bought a chocolate pudding from the hotel's first floor. Whiskey. Soba noodles. Sake. Finally, a creamy pudding that melts in your mouth. Wrapped in the joyful and happy feeling of Kyoto, I fell asleep melting away.

The 500 yen pudding is not worth the cost.
