I used it as a souvenir. It was cute and elegant, and the recipient liked it. The staff at the store were very kind and waited patiently while I was deciding which one to choose. I definitely want to go back and buy more. Thank you very much.

In December 2022, I visited this place again to purchase delicious truffles, this time in a small box format. It seemed like there were regular customers present, as an elderly owner greeted me politely. It was clear from the atmosphere that this shop was well-loved by various locals. Unfortunately, the snow mochi I was looking for was sold out since I didn't make a reservation. However, I was able to purchase the small box of truffles I wanted. I brought it home and enjoyed it slowly. The truffles still had a wonderful flavor of sweet bean paste. I had heard that the box would come with cute Western-style sweets, and indeed, this time it was reindeer-shaped! These cute sweets would make a lovely small gift for someone. However, since those around me prefer traditional Japanese sweets, I will likely buy it for myself again. Of course, in a gift box for special occasions!

I visited this place when I went to Kyoto. I was intrigued by the fact that they use whole sweet red beans for their matsutake mushrooms, so I decided to stop by. (I am exploring for something that surpasses the matsutake mushrooms from a certain prefecture and a store in K.) The shop also has a charming exterior! When I entered and asked the proprietress about the matsutake mushrooms, she said that the minimum purchase quantity is six, and there are also gift boxes available. However, if it's for home use, she mentioned that they could also provide it in a plastic pack, so I decided to go with that option. It was slightly cheaper, but if it's for a gift, it comes with decorative dried sweets on top and a lovely box, so it might have been nice for a small souvenir or cuteness factor. Now, after returning home, I enjoyed the matsutake mushrooms with tea. It's a sweet red bean paste wrapped in a fine sugar coating. These matsutake mushrooms are made in a way that allows you to fully taste the flavor of the sweet red beans, with the red bean paste having a slightly higher moisture content. The sweet red beans have a strong presence, and there is a deliciousness that goes beyond just sweetness and smoothness. The harmony between the red bean paste and the sugar coating is also strong, making it a delicious treat that makes you want to eat more. I would like to try it again, so next time, I would like to ask for it in a gift box and take it home.

I chose to offer a rough memorial service for my mother, who loved Matsutake mushrooms, with this Matsutake mushroom set. I bought several boxes, but I only recorded the amount spent on one box. Instead of the usual pink string, I used a matcha-colored string, and the folding paper inside had a blue border. The decorative dried sweets were simple, but I included cherry blossoms and butterflies, which my mother loved, as it is the cherry blossom season. I also sent one box to those who kindly offered their condolences. Thank you! I also bought some bracken rice cakes that caught my eye at the entrance. Later, I went to a friend's house for a belated birthday celebration, where they prepared a meal, mainly featuring bamboo shoot rice. After that, we ate the bracken rice cakes, which were soft and gentle, with plenty of kinako on top, making them very delicious and elegant. The one month passed by in a flash.

My mother loved truffles, especially the truffles from Nijo Surugaya. They were her favorite, with soft sweet red bean paste and a cute decorative dry confectionery. I decided to buy them as an offering. I usually buy the regular box, but this time I found a small box. Maybe it's a new addition? So, I decided to review it. For home use, there is a simple white box without wrapping paper. The small box is cute. I bought the smallest box as I have plans to meet Anko Alien the next day. I bought one for my mother and sister too. I opened it a bit to take a photo. These truffles made me feel like a child again. I ate the whole box by myself, not sharing with anyone, reminiscing about my mother.

I visited during the daytime on a regular day. There were no prices written on the items inside the store. I had seen online that a single truffle was around 110-160 yen, but it was actually 80 yen each. I bought 3 for 240 yen. When you buy a box, they display the beautiful dried sweets, so I think that's why they cost more. The red bean paste is coated in sugar, so it's very sweet, but it's not just sweet - it has a sweetness that doesn't linger, and it was very delicious.

I bought it as a tea snack for guests. For home use, I was able to purchase a 10-piece set for 1000 yen. As for gifts, it seems a bit expensive with the cost of the box and dried sweets included. It was my first time trying this flavor, and it was sweet and delicious. It might go well with matcha because of its sweetness. The sweetness may vary depending on personal preference, but when you're full but craving something sweet, this is perfect!

Since I was a child, I have loved matarons. I used to think they were just a simple snack, similar to cheap candies, with their beautiful shape, crispy sugar coating, and moist red bean paste inside. A few years ago, I visited a shop that dyes kimono obiage in my favorite color, and there was a wagashi shop across the street. When I went in, I saw cute mataron-chan lined up in wooden boxes. I ordered some and they packed them in a box for me. When I tried them, I was surprised! The filling was red bean paste. The sugar coating was not crispy but moist. I used to like crispy ones, but now I prefer the moist ones. My mother also loves matarons, so whenever I visit her, I always bring her these mataron-chan! She usually eats most of them by herself, so I buy extra for myself. These matarons are a great gift for New Year's greetings or as a present, and they are always well-received. There are other wagashi available, but I have only bought mataron-chan from this shop. These alluring white-headed mataron-chan go well with tea, black tea, or coffee.

This is the Matsutake from Nijo Surugaya in Kyoto. This Matsutake has been my favorite traditional Japanese sweet since I was a child, and I sometimes crave it. This time, instead of purchasing it online, I called Nijo Surugaya directly and had it shipped to me. When I tried the Matsutake that arrived, it was delicious just as I had hoped! It is still soft, unlike how it hardens over time. It has an elegant flavor that stands out among many similar items. I will continue to rely on them from time to time, and I want to keep enjoying it for as long as possible.

[Upstream confectionery] Nijo Surugaya [Yukimo] Theme: Sweets Machi Taxi. For some reason, I suddenly felt like eating Japanese sweets, so I decided to visit "Nijo Surugaya" shop. The location is on the north side of Nijo Shinmachi Higashi-iru. Initially, I heard from customers that their "warabimochi" is excellent. However, they don't make it at this time of year. They start making it in March, so I will definitely buy it again then. Their famous confectionery is called "Matshu" and a box of 16 pieces costs ¥1800. It's too much for one person to eat alone. (I later found out that they also sell them individually). When I asked for a recommendation for upstream confectionery, they suggested "Yukimo" (¥450), so I tried it. Inside, it has a sweet yellow bean paste. It has an elegant sweetness. Well, is it even sweet to begin with? It's delicious. It's a taste that's hard to describe in words. Among the few upscale confections I've tried, this is one of the best. It's recommended to make a reservation in advance. I was lucky to get some this time, but next time I will call ahead before going. (Visited on 1/30/2012)

I made a detour to a traditional Japanese sweets shop called Yuikei Post Office on the way back from the clothing store. It was a bit intimidating to enter because you couldn't see inside from the outside. Inside, there were only dried sweets in the showcase. I was in the mood for fresh sweets, but there were only three samples of fresh sweets on the right side. I asked the lady at the counter if I could have fresh sweets right away, and she recommended a sweet called "Yuki Mochi." It cost 430 yen each, so I bought two for a total of 903 yen including tax. The Yuki Mochi is made with white bean paste and has a snow-like appearance. It is made with sweet potato, and the inside is filled with a yellow bean paste with small dark yellow grains. The texture is soft and slightly heavy, with a subtle sweetness and a unique flavor. I enjoyed one and shared the other with a friend, who also thought it was delicious. I plan to order some as gifts for my acquaintances next time I meet them.

The shop was a bit hard to find. I have been eating these Matsutake sweets since a long time ago, sometimes using them as gifts or for ordering online. Matsutake is a traditional Japanese sweet made of round sweet bean paste covered in sugar coating. While Matsutake can be found elsewhere, they often have a lot of sweet bean paste inside and the sugar coating on the outside can become dry and crunchy. These Matsutake have a grainy sweet bean paste inside and a moist sugar coating, making them really delicious. They go well with matcha or other strong teas. Inside the packaging of Matsutake, there is a note explaining that Matsutake is a type of spherical edible mushroom that grows in pine forests around May, with a delicate flavor. Matsutake sweets are named after the resemblance to Matsutake mushrooms. Matsutake from Nijo Suruga-ya are made using high-quality Azuki beans from Tamba. The note also mentions that if the sweets get wet, they can be left out to dry or even frozen for storage. The shelf life is 5 days in summer and 10 days in winter. Nijo Suruga-ya is also known for their fresh sweets, but since they don't make them in advance, they may not always be available in the store. It is recommended to make a reservation.

In May 2016, as I headed towards Kiyotaki, my thoughts of Hanhichi-sama grew stronger. I hopped on a bus to Uzumasa and Hanazono, gazing aimlessly out the window at the passing scenery. In the hot sun of Karasuma Marutamachi, I walked towards the shade of the trees, heading to Nijo Surugaya shop. "Hello~" "Hello~" A young lady in a white confectionery work outfit greeted me from inside, asking if I would like to try some matsutake mushrooms. "I'll take 3 boxes of the 16-piece set. They're souvenirs for two of my colleagues from Kobe." I waited for a few minutes on the cool waiting chair in the shop, as they carefully wrapped the cute boxes of matsutake mushrooms for me. I resisted the temptation to have dinner in Motomachi, so I left Kyoto. Back at the hotel, I made some warm roasted tea and first tried one of the matsutake mushrooms. It was very elegant and delicately sweet, with the fragrance of red bean paste peeking through. Sipping the tea, I couldn't help but smile at the adorable deliciousness. I had another bite, savoring the delightful red bean paste that complemented the tea's aroma. Before I knew it, I had eaten four, and then two more. I took a break, enjoying the sugar confection that came with the tea. Another cup of tea later, feeling content and happy, I found solace in the cute matsutake mushrooms, even in my heartbroken state.

The Hina-gashi Hichigiri at Nijo Suruga-ya consists of a green Yomogi-flavored outer layer with smooth red bean paste on top, while the colored outer layer has chunky red bean paste. The Yomogi scent is just right and the chunky red bean paste is delicious. The sweet potato paste is moist and flavorful.

This is a small shop on 2nd Street in Kyoto that my mother used to love. It's a confectionery shop that also sells dried sweets, but the specialty here is definitely the matsutake mushroom. It's filled with sweet bean paste inside and has a thick layer of sugar on the outside, giving it a unique texture. It's a bit too sweet to eat a lot at once, but it's a nostalgic taste that I used to enjoy often. This confection goes really well with matcha tea. Overall, it was a delightful and appreciated treat. Thank you for the delicious meal.

This is a gift. It's wonderful that it's only available on this day for one year. ● It seems like one slice of Mizuki costs around 350-400 yen. We chilled it in the refrigerator for about 3 hours before eating. The aroma of the red beans was strong. The white part underneath was packed and had a satisfying texture.

This is a gift I received. When I mentioned casually that I love the Matsutake from Nijo Surugaya, they went out of their way to send it to meヽ(=´▽`=)ノ Matsutake is a sweet made with Tamba-produced anko coated in syrup. It is different from the cheap candy with the same name at the dagashi shop. When you put it in your mouth, the syrup coating melts gently while the anko asserts itself firmly. On top of the Matsutake are seasonal dried sweets(。・ω・。)ノ♡elegant. This is the first time I've had confectionery from Surugaya. The smooth, sticky texture that I've never experienced before! I was a little moved(๑♡⌓♡๑) Both the Matsutake and the confectionery have a limited daily sales volume, so it is recommended to make a reservation.
