On August 12, 2023 (Saturday), I bought a pack of 5 sliced and cut-off castella cakes at Aeon Mall Tsunan. I purchased a set of 3 bags (1300 yen) where I could choose my favorite flavors from the neatly sliced castella and the cut-off pieces. It was a good deal compared to buying them individually at 480 yen each. I chose a plain cut-off castella for myself and matcha and lemon flavors in the 5-slice pack for souvenirs. The cut-off plain castella was delicious and sweet, perfect with black coffee. The matcha flavor was a bit subtle, but the lemon flavor was surprisingly strong and tasty.

Winter delicacy in Tajima: When I went to the Wadayama direct sales store to buy Iwazu green onions, I unexpectedly found boxes of castella piled up. Upon reading the label, it turned out to be a specialty from a castella shop in Yamashina. Intrigued by the price, I decided to purchase it. The plain flavor cost ¥600. Enjoyed it at home - pre-cut for convenience. It had a classic deliciousness that paired well with coffee. Thank you for the meal!

I received a Castella Matcha cake from Castella House Ichibankan from a friend. They said they couldn't finish it, but once I opened it, it disappeared in an instant. It was cut into 8 pieces and had a rich texture. When I tried it, it was not too sweet, but the bitterness of the matcha stood out, and it was delicious with a chewy texture. I ended up eating 5 pieces by myself. The remaining 3 pieces will have to wait until tomorrow... haha. Thank you for the meal.

My mother bought this matcha castella from a department store somewhere. The matcha flavor is strong, and you can really taste the intense tea flavor. The texture is a bit dry, not moist. The sugar particles stick to the paper and taste bitter when eaten alone. I checked their website and it seems they use carefully selected ingredients, but the details are unclear. They seem to have a variety of products, maybe even two types of matcha alone. While the flavor is good and delicious, the dry texture and sugar particles separating could be improved a bit.

In November 2012, the basement second floor of Mitsukoshi Sapporo store is a sweets floor with famous shops. There is a sweets event sales corner that changes every one or two weeks. One of the shops featured until November 12th was "Castella House Ichibankan" from Kyoto. They had enticing castella at a good price, so I decided to stop by. The corner is located in Chuo-ku, Sapporo City Center, on the basement second floor of Mitsukoshi Sapporo store. For the exact location, please check on Tabelog. They had several types of castella, some in boxes and some without. The castella itself is the same. The boxed ones are packed and have a longer shelf life, while the unboxed ones are half the price. I chose to buy the unboxed one. There are various flavors available, and when I asked the staff, they said the lemon flavor is the most popular. So, I bought that one. "Kyoto Castella Lemon" is a fluffy and chewy castella with a hint of lemon flavor. It is not pre-sliced, so you can cut it to your desired thickness. The lemon aroma is delightful, and it has a simple, homely taste. At only 525 yen per piece, it's very affordable and a castella you could enjoy every day. I also like high-end castella that cost 2,000 or 3,000 yen, but I appreciate this kind as well. It's perfect for children's snacks or family gatherings while enjoying a cup of tea. It's suitable for those with a big appetite as well. Since it's reasonably priced, you can enjoy it without hesitation. It's a taste loved by both adults and children. The theme of this review is "warm snacks." As Sapporo has become quite cold, sharing this castella with family can warm everyone's hearts. While high-end tea is nice, this castella goes well with everyday tea. It was delicious, thank you for the feast.

By the way, I forgot to post this... Castella cake I received from Darin's great aunt. She seems to like this castella cake, I wonder where she got it from? Was it ordered online? Or maybe sold at Daimaru department store? Anyway, it was a castella cake from Kyoto. She gave us two, one in matcha flavor and one plain, for our small family of two. We were grateful for it, but two castella cakes were quite a lot. (So, I looked up a recipe on Cookpad and used the remaining plain castella to make tiramisu =. It turned out surprisingly delicious haha) Well, back to this castella cake, it's simple. It has a nostalgic feel to it, like the traditional castella cakes. Since Darin's great aunt is over 70 years old, she probably prefers this kind of old-fashioned castella cake. From the perspective of our small family, it felt a bit dry, but it has a charming eggy taste. It's not too sweet, but the slight dryness makes you thirsty. The matcha flavor probably uses Uji matcha. We enjoyed it. Personally, I think Fukusaya's castella cake is still my favorite. I like the coarse sugar on the bottom, it's just so appealing.

At Shin-Tsudanuma Station, there is a stand selling various regional specialty products in front of the ticket gate. I noticed the word "Castella" and initially thought it was from Nagasaki, but upon closer inspection, it was actually from Kyoto. I didn't know Kyoto had Castella. There are many types of Castella, but I couldn't buy a lot due to the price. I decided to purchase a plain one for 500 yen instead of the usual 1,050 yen. When I got home, I enjoyed it with tea. Castella may seem simple and lack decoration, but it was a luxurious treat when I was a child. Nowadays, roll cakes are more popular, but Castella still holds a special place in my heart. It has a simple and light flavor, without any overwhelming sweetness. It made me nostalgic and appreciate the simple pleasure of enjoying Castella.

In Kyoto, Yamashina... (!?) It seems like it's southwest of JR Kyoto Station. There is a place called Kyoto Castella Ichibankan, known for its delicious castella cakes. When you think of castella, you usually think of Nagasaki, but I heard that Kyoto also has some tasty castella cakes. The logo of the castella shop looks similar to a boat - is it just my imagination? A common castella logo!? (laughs) Made with plenty of eggs and honey, Kyoto Castella Ichibankan's specialty is a fluffy and fine-textured castella cake. They offer a trial set with free shipping on their website. The matcha-flavored castella cake costs 780 yen. I happened to see it being sold at a nearby supermarket and bought it. Without trying the regular flavor, I went straight for the matcha one (laughs). It uses matcha from Uji in Kyoto, giving it an elegant finish. I was pleasantly surprised by its delicious taste!! It goes beyond just a matcha flavor - it almost tastes like Darjeeling tea, very refined. It has a gentle texture, a mild sweetness, and a subtle aroma of eggs. It is very delicious. The ingredients are simple: eggs, sugar, flour, honey, corn syrup, and matcha from Uji in Kyoto. It is baked with a nostalgic and simple taste. It is carefully wrapped in packaging. When you open the orange wrapping, there is a box inside, then a paper bag, and finally the castella cake. It's not eco-friendly packaging, but I love it. I have a record of matcha products I have tried before (updated until 2013). Osaka, Hyogo: Morihan Meicha Matcha Waffle for 140 yen, Antenor Fromage for 126 yen. Mon Loire Matcha Financier for 189 yen. Shinjuku: Nakamuraya, Surugaya in Osaka. Daigo Kyoto: Terakoya Honpo (Matcha) Kuromame Mochi for 130 yen, Shin Hachichaya International Gelato Award-winning store. Ichijoji Nakatani Kinugoshi Green Tea Tiramesu. Tsujiri Nohemi Concentrated Matcha Dorayaki for 320 yen. Karasudo Not enough? Light matcha castella cake. Other items: Warakudo White Dorayaki for 200 yen, Wa no Nenrinya Mount Baum. Hello Kitty Japan Cozy Corner Ginza Ichome Honten assorted set for 1000 yen.

A Kyoto Castella cake shop. They have gift boxes available, but if you're buying for home use, the box-less option is more affordable. I bought a slightly narrower piece for 300 yen each at a clearance sale. They had various flavors like matcha, brown sugar, chocolate, lemon, and blueberry. Unfortunately, they were out of plain flavor, but I got the box-less option and a discounted chocolate one instead. The chocolate one wasn't pre-cut, so I had to cut it myself. It had a light and gentle flavor, so even those who don't like chocolate Castella might enjoy it. The plain one was pre-cut since it was the regular box-less type. It was fluffy and moist with a simple and old-fashioned taste. Rich flavors are nice, but these simple and traditional ones are great for everyone, especially as a tea-time snack. Someone recommended the matcha flavor, so I might try that next time.

I went to NIJU-MARU to buy Baumkuchen as a gift for my friend, but ended up buying 5 pieces of Castella at the entrance on the right side to take home. When I got home and looked at it, I realized that it was from the same shop. I wonder if the Sakura Castella I bought at NIJU-MARU before was also from this shop? I remember the Sakura Castella being soft and moist and delicious. However, the Castella I bought this time was disappointing as it was dry and hard. It didn't have any resemblance to the delicious Sakura Castella I had before. It was priced at around 500-600 yen for 5 pieces, which is not too expensive, but it felt overpriced considering the quality. Lesson learned - always check carefully before buying.

I purchased it at a local specialty store. There were several varieties such as blueberry, but I bought the best-selling lemon. As I am used to a certain castella from Nagasaki, I could tell the difference as soon as I held it in my hand. It was dry and honestly, I thought it was at the level of being sold at a supermarket for about 298 yen. Unfortunately, my husband didn't like it either (crying). Is the slightly more expensive one a bit moister? Personally, I liked the lemon flavor so I crushed it and mixed it with vanilla ice cream to eat.

My mother bought a Kyoto castella cake that caught her attention at a certain department store. She purchased two flavors, lemon and blueberry, and served them as a snack. The lemon flavor had a refreshing scent that filled the room, but the castella cake itself was more plain in texture. It seemed to have an artificial flavor that lingered on the tongue after eating. The blueberry flavor was similar in taste. Although the price was affordable, my mother said she probably wouldn't buy it again next time.

I participated in the "Kansai Fair" held at Sendai Station from June 1st to 8th, 2022. I bought the cut-off pieces of Castella Plain. It is very moist and sticky. It has a strong sweetness and goes well with strong roasted coffee (laughs).

Blog ⇒ [Riding on the Flowing Clouds♪] I love traveling! I want to go on a trip! But, well... maybe it's still a bit early? Oh, but maybe it's about time to go! As I was pondering to myself, suddenly Golden Week is approaching! Going on a trip during such a long holiday might be a bit much, but I might not have the luxury to relax either. With the possibility of getting caught up in a war looming... although gun battles in the city are not realistic, neighboring countries with missiles, viruses spreading, countries at war... our country is surrounded by extremely dangerous nations. The only relief is that we are not connected by land... but there are rumors of nuclear weapon use. I hope it's just a joke, but it doesn't seem that way. Anyway, tensions are high all over the world. It's almost impossible for an individual to break this situation. If only we had a hero... like Superman, a hero of justice... oh! I got it, let's go to the supermarket! ↑ What's with this sudden change in tone (← Oh well) haha. No matter what, life goes on, right? Let's enjoy the supermarket while we can (^^) ↑ Is the supermarket really that fun? For me, the supermarket is like an amusement park (^^)/ Each supermarket has its own unique features, so it's fun to visit different ones. Plus, nowadays you can buy local specialties at supermarkets. So, I bought the "Traditional Castella" from Megumi no Sato. This castella is a product of "Castella House Ichibankan" in Kyoto. Since it's Castella House Ichibankan's castella, it must be delicious (^^)/ ↑ Can you say that for sure? (← Castella House Ichibankan's castella is different) haha. The catchphrase is "A traditional method crafted by artisans, the dedicated Kyoto castella." When you think of castella, you might think of Nagasaki, but Kyoto castella is not bad either. And this time, I bought the "Brown Sugar Castella." Brown sugar has more depth than white sugar, but it's refreshing, you know? Somehow, brown sugar seems better for your body (laughs). And on top of that, even though it's castella, it's moist and I was surprised.

I was able to purchase (Shishiodoshi) con!! It was well recited. I bought it at a event. The shop is Kyoto's "Kyoto Castella". Castella is made with fresh eggs, flour, and sugar, crafted by artisans. The variety is amazing. In addition to matcha, they have black sugar, chocolate, lemon, blueberry, Earl Grey, orange, strawberry, black bean kinako, Uji matcha, and Tanba black bean. Thank you for the meal.

A Western confectionery shop in Kyoto city that specializes in castella cakes. They offer various types of castella cakes, with the most basic one being the most popular. The ingredients include eggs, sugar, flour, corn syrup, and honey. The castella cake has a strong egg flavor and is moist, thanks to the corn syrup and honey. Each pack contains 5 slices, which is a decent portion size. I ate it in three servings and it did not disappoint.

At the Port Island International Exhibition Hall, there was a bargain sale by Renown. Renown is known for... not Kamogawa Hormone! I mean, Renown Girls. Renown, Renown, Renown, Renown Girls are stylish and chic. Renown Girls are everywhere, everywhere, everywhere, Renown Girls! Aqua Scutum and Darvans are being sold at unbelievable prices. What I purchased was this: Cut-off Castella from Kyoto Castella House Ichibankan. One Castella is 600 yen, while the slightly imperfect Castella is 500 yen. When asked what "slightly imperfect" means, it was explained that it refers to Castella with less sugar crystals at the bottom, which some people prefer. What I bought was the even cheaper Cut-off Castella Plain for 400 yen. Even though it's cut-off, it's a moist Castella with various sizes of pieces. I enjoyed it with iced coffee.

I purchased the Castella Lemon (565 yen) from Castella House Ichibankan at a department store event. There were various flavors like matcha, Earl Grey, and brown sugar, but since it was my first time buying, I chose the lemon flavor. As soon as I opened the package, a refreshing lemon scent spread out. The Castella is moist, fine-grained, fluffy, and soft, with a refreshing lemon flavor that tastes delicious. The price is reasonable, and if there is another event in the future, I would like to try other flavors as well.

In the midst of summer, the reviews of gifts received continue, so just read through them casually m(_ _)m My close friend who usually comes to visit from Tokyo every year came from Kansai this year. The kids were expecting the classic Tokyo banana, but instead we received Castella from a Castella specialty shop in Kyoto. When we opened it, it was already pre-cut!! It's nice to be able to eat it right away without needing a knife. As the title suggests, it was a moist Castella with a surprisingly mild sweetness, which was nice. It went well with a highball (laughs). Thank you for the meal (^^)

I received this as a souvenir from Osaka. It was not too sweet, not too dry, and it didn't take away the moisture in my mouth. It was a moist and delicious castella cake, cut into 8 pieces for easy eating.
