We stopped by for work and visited with colleagues. It seems like a long-established shop. The seasoning is typical of Kyoto, the meat is tender, and it was delicious. The restaurant is located on the second floor and accessed by stairs. It's an old-fashioned shop. The menu is very simple and easy to understand.

I feel like coming here once a month. First, I'll start with the potato salad. The flavor of the potatoes is really good. The salad is fresh and crunchy, it's irresistible. And then the steak arrives. I eat it with grated ponzu sauce, and the meat is mysterious. It has a matured flavor that becomes addictive. The prices are reasonable and they are open all year except for New Year's, so if you ever visit Kyoto, be sure to check it out.

I have been coming to this restaurant for almost 30 years, starting from my father's generation. It has always been a delicious place with the best cost performance. Ordering a 400g steak, salad, rice, and pudding for less than 4,000 yen feels like a bug of some sort. It was very much appreciated during my student days. The steak is probably from the harami cut, aged meat with little fat but tender and full of flavor. Grated green onion with ponzu sauce is the perfect match. The lack of options in terms of cooking style or cut is a message that this particular cut cooked this way is the most delicious. The rice, even before it became famous, has been made with Yatsushiro Genbei's rice for a long time, and it is truly delicious. Another hidden gem on the menu is the pudding, with three varieties that are surprisingly high quality, smooth, and just the right amount of sweetness. It was the perfect finish after a 400g steak.

There is an old steakhouse that used to be a bar or snack bar on the first floor. In the past, the menu was not displayed outside, making it seem very intimidating, so I couldn't go. Recently, the menu has been displayed outside, and I was able to get an idea of the atmosphere from websites like Tabelog, so I decided to give it a try. I appreciate that they are open all day. I went around 3 pm on a weekday, and there were no other customers, just the owner and a staff member. They quickly prepared the food, and it came out in no time. They didn't ask about how I wanted the steak cooked. I started with the potato salad, which had fresh tomatoes and crunchy cucumbers as sides. However, the potato salad was a bit too salty for my taste. The steak was 250g and cooked just right with only salt and pepper seasoning, allowing you to adjust the taste with ponzu sauce or grated garlic provided for free. The meat lacked fat and didn't have much flavor, feeling a bit bland to me. It might be a matter of personal preference, but I didn't find it very delicious. I'm not sure which part of the meat it was, maybe skirt steak? It felt too light and not as satisfying as I had hoped. It's easy to eat because it's light. The total cost was 2,310 yen, which may seem cheap for the amount of steak and sides included, but I personally found it a bit expensive. I don't plan on revisiting this place. However, I admire the fact that they have been able to continue operating for so long at a low price in a location without tourist attractions.

I dream of the day when I can say this and my usual menu will appear. A 200g steak with potato salad and medium rice. My stomach is full and my dreams are fulfilled. The deliciousness of the meat never gets old no matter how many times I eat it. The mysterious meat, which seems to be aged, is cooked to perfection by the master, and when eaten with grated ponzu sauce, it tastes fantastic. The vegetables are always fresh, cut and arranged after ordering, not pre-made. Even the tomatoes have their skin peeled off and are carefully prepared, which justifies the high price. I always order the potato salad, and depending on the season, I can taste the difference in the hardness and flavor of the potatoes, from delicious to incredibly delicious. The restaurant is only closed on New Year's Day, and I hope it remains open and lively forever. I highly recommend trying the mysterious meat. It's a must-try!

In Kyoto at night, I met up with my son and wanted to treat him to a hearty meal (laughs). We decided to visit "Peeping Tom," a place we were curious about. We met at Kamigamo Shrine and walked about 15 minutes to the retro building on the second floor where the restaurant is located. Luckily, there were two seats available at the counter when we arrived around 7 pm on a weekday. The ordering style is to choose the weight of steak, rice size, soup, and salad individually. I chose 150g steak with small rice, while my son chose 250g steak with medium rice. We both ordered salad, with me getting a glass of red wine and my son getting a draft beer. The salad came with an original dressing that was quite delicious. The steak was served on a plate, simple and straightforward. The difference in thickness between the 150g and 250g steaks was noticeable and impressive. We could enjoy the steak as is, with salt, or with grated ponzu sauce for a refreshing taste. The meat was tender and really made us feel like we were eating steak. The restaurant may not have a fancy atmosphere, but it is wallet-friendly and clearly loved by the local community (there was a constant stream of customers coming in, with some waiting). The bill came to 5010 yen for the two of us. Both my son and I left the restaurant feeling very satisfied. It was delicious, thank you for the meal.

I wanted to eat a hearty meat meal, and this restaurant was perfect for that! I ordered the 250g steak, and even though I am a woman, I finished it all easily! I used to think that lean steaks have a lot of tendons, but I was surprised to find that the meat here was tender no matter where I ate from. It was delicious!

When I was a child, I was often taken to Piping Tom in Arashiyama. Unfortunately, the Arashiyama location is gone now, and only the Kitayama location remains. They serve simple but delicious steaks. There aren't many places like this in Kyoto, so it's one of my favorite restaurants. The taste remains consistent every time I visit, and the value for money is quite high. I highly recommend it when you want to eat a hearty steak. Not recommended for dining with small children.

It's a shame that the renowned steakhouse "Peeping Tom" in Arashiyama has closed down, now I have to go all the way to Kitayama. It had been over ten years since my last visit, but the food still has a great taste! 300g of steak and rice were not nearly enough - once you start eating, you can't stop.

After many years, I went back to Pete's Ranch for the first time in a long time. The steak starts at 150g. In the past, it used to come with a mini salad and rice, but this time I just had the 150g steak with a mini salad. The sauce I like to dip it in has always been the same. It's like ponzu, with no sweetness and lots of grated green onions. The 150g steak cost 1100 yen. Hmm, I could probably eat about 250g.

This restaurant is located a 5-minute walk from Shitokicho bus stop, where you can take a Kyoto city bus from Hankyu Omiya Station. It is an old steakhouse that serves steak on a regular plate without asking for your preferred doneness. The steak is enjoyed with a grated soy sauce-based dipping sauce, and it is incredibly delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I suddenly craved steak. Since I was a child, there was a family restaurant in Arashiyama, but it closed a few years ago. This time, I couldn't resist my craving, so I went for an early dinner. I ordered a mini salad and a 300g steak. First, the mini salad arrived with homemade dressing in a bottle, so you can pour as much as you like (laughs). The steak was cooked just right, with a nice charcoal flavor, and you can enjoy it with grated ponzu sauce. I added some shichimi pepper for a change in flavor. It was delicious - I finished it all in no time. The taste and cost performance were great! This is a counter-only restaurant, so you can easily dine alone. They have installed partitions on the counter for COVID-19 measures, and they close at 8 pm to ensure customers can finish their meal and leave on time.

We went for a casual lunch on Saturday afternoon with two people. There is a parking service available at the nearby coin parking lot. The interior of the restaurant only has a long counter seat. We had steak, salad, soup, and dessert. The mini salad was nice with cucumbers, tomatoes, and corn. The dressing was fruity and delicious. The corn potage was hot, creamy, and delicious. The steak we had was 150g and it was well cooked with a juicy and chewy texture. The ponzu, green onions, and grated daikon radish sauce was refreshing and tasty. For dessert, we had a Japanese brown sugar pudding which was slightly firm and had a rich sweetness. I liked the pudding more than the steak. It's a good place to go for a reasonable and hearty meat meal. The Japanese brown sugar pudding is a must-try. Thank you for the meal.

It has been many years since I last visited when there was a shop in Arashiyama, but this was the first time my wife and I went to the Kitayama shop. My wife had 200g and I had 300g. The taste was nostalgic, especially with grated daikon. It was very delicious. It feels good to eat meat. When we feel like eating meat again, we will definitely go back.

About 30 years ago, when the Arashiyama branch still existed, my boss at the company I worked for took me there because I was a new employee with little money. I remember being treated to a delicious meal and eating to my heart's content. Recently, I visited the restaurant in Kitayama instead of Arashiyama. I had a 250g steak, extra rice, and the famous salad. The salad dressing with grated radish was delicious. It may not be top-notch cuisine, but as a B-class gourmet meal, it was fantastic. I don't visit Kyoto often, but if I have the chance to come back to this area, I would definitely like to stop by again.
