Today, I had a light drink at a standing bar. I went to a standing bar called "Uradera Koromo" located in Uradera Street, Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi. The first floor is a standing bar specializing in deep-fried skewers, while the second floor is a canned food bar. The entrance area on the first floor has counter seats for standing, and the back has chair seats. I enjoyed deep-fried skewers with shochu mixed with hot water. You can order skewers individually, and they are quite filling. The interior of the restaurant is bright and clean, and the staff are very friendly. It's a place where even a woman alone can have a good time.

The standing bar mainly serves fried food, with seating available in the back. The menu prices differ between the standing and seating sections, but it's unclear if the standing prices are pre-tax and the seating prices are inclusive of tax. In terms of value for money, the standing bar may not be the best option. I ordered a draft beer for 530 yen, okra and chicken with wasabi, and 4 pieces of kushikatsu. The wasabi dish was tasty but small in portion size. The kushikatsu was fried to perfection and delicious. There was only one female staff member managing the place, engaging in lively conversations with customers. It seemed like a popular spot among regulars, but the lively atmosphere made me feel a bit out of place, so I left early.

On the night of July 31st, the two of us went to Ura Terakoromo. It's a standing skewer cutlet restaurant located a little north of OPA Ura in Shijo Kawaramachi. The friendly female owner said, "I'm here every day," and we quickly hit it off with her and the other customers, making for a fun time. The skewers were fried carefully, crispy and delicious - they went really well with beer and highballs! We'll definitely visit again when we're in Shijo Kawaramachi. Thank you so much!

Visited in November 2019 with a rating of 3.19 on Tabelog. After enjoying delicious pork hormone at Motonaka, we stopped by a bagel shop and then took a bus to Kawaramachi in Kyoto. We tried to go to another restaurant but it was full, so we stumbled upon a place called "Ura Terakoromo." Located behind Kawaramachi OPA, this place offers a variety of skewers and dishes that go well with alcohol. We opted for a table seat and I started with a plum wine soda for a toast. We tried various skewers such as oysters, eggplant, shiitake mushrooms with grated daikon, cucumber with salt sauce, and assorted smoked items. The skewers were crispy as they were fried in lard, and the smoked items were particularly delicious, including smelt, nuts, and smoked daikon radish. This marked the end of our "Kyoto food and autumn leaves tour." It was a fun day filled with good food, drinks, and conversations. Thank you for the meal.

Today, I stopped by a tempura skewer restaurant called Ura-Tera COROMO in a casual manner. It seems like a place where you can enjoy standing and eating skewers. The interior of the restaurant has a somewhat stylish feel. The standing counter was bustling with older gentlemen who were there before me. For appetizers, I tried two types of potato salad - curry flavored and normal. They also served a small dish of pickles and tofu. I started with a mixed plate of skewers. The skewers are coated in fresh bread crumbs and fried in 100% lard, which is their specialty. I enjoyed chicken tenderloin, onion, and shrimp skewers with homemade tartar sauce. You can eat them in one big bite. The chicken tenderloin was eaten with wasabi. I also tried their tempura tulip, which you can order individually. It was crispy and had a crunchy texture. I ate it with yuzu pepper. Lastly, I had stuffed mushrooms and sandfish. The stuffed mushrooms were served with a ponzu jelly, while the sandfish had shiso leaves inside. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Overall, it was not just your typical fried skewers, but rather a creative and enjoyable twist on traditional skewers.

Ura Terakoromo in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City (Hankyu Kawaramachi). They serve delicious skewers such as: Wagyu harami with wasabi, tsukune, kisu with shiso and yuzu, scallops with homemade lemon butter, lotus root stuffed with curry powder, and eringi wrapped in bacon. This cozy skewer restaurant is popular among regular customers. #UraTerakoromo #Kawaramachi #Teramachi #standingbar #kushikatsu #skewers #izakaya #Kyoto gourmet #Kyoto foodie #Aishokuo #Aitaiyo #AitaiyonosoudaKyotodeTabeyou

I don't drink alcohol, but I had a great time! Everything was delicious and authentic. The smoked platter was amazing! The jelly sauce on the oysters was tasty. The enoki mushroom skewers were too good. Even though there were only three of us and we weren't hungry, we ended up trying a variety of dishes. I will definitely go back. Every dish seemed to have been carefully prepared with attention to detail. They were refined, flavorful, had a great aftertaste, and even had a sense of luxury in their batter. A friend who loves food and drink highly recommended this place, and now I'm a regular customer. The quality of the ingredients is also excellent.

I had been curious about a standing bar for a while, so I decided to drop in. I had always thought it was just a standing bar, but it turns out they also have high tables in the back. I ordered a highball and a few types of kushikatsu. To be honest, I underestimated it. I thought it would be like the kushikatsu you find at chain izakayas. But the kushikatsu that came out was authentic, with fine breadcrumbs. Some had a ponzu jelly on top, some had lemon peel and salt, and some had a special salt seasoning. The pork with salt and lemon was surprisingly delicious. I also ordered smoked food, which they smoke in-house. I really like Iburi Gakko, and their version was right up my alley. The drinks were flowing, and I was completely hooked. The staff were friendly and fun to chat with. I visited again later, but it was quite crowded! The high chairs in the back were almost broken, so please fix them. Thanks for the great meal!

Now, the back streets of Teramachi are hot! A person who returned to Kyoto after a long time starts talking, but it may already be too late. (-_-;) However, it's strange that when the back streets of Teramachi become lively, the so-called Teramachi Street, the front streets, begin to feel like the back streets. About 30 years ago, when I left Kyoto, Teramachi Street felt quite deserted compared to Shinkyogoku, another arcade street. There were hardly any shops open late, and after 8 PM, it almost felt like it would turn into a shuttered street. But in recent years, Teramachi Street has gradually become brighter. And even brighter than that is the back streets of Teramachi. As I mentioned in another review, I used to frequent this street to avoid the crowded Kawaramachi Street and Shinkyogoku, and quickly get to Vivre 21 or the used record store Beaver from Shijo Kawaramachi. Also, I was a fan of the local okonomiyaki restaurant "Koharu" that I used to frequent outside of my hometown of Uzumasa. 30 years ago, the back streets of Teramachi were just as the name suggests, a place where great stores were scattered around but not many tourists would venture, mainly a road for locals. But now, it is. Now, this place, from what my drunk memory recalls, seemed like a girls' bar. (laughs) Starting with a Premium Malt's and then a Beam Highball. Tomato slices, cabbage with salt dressing as accompaniments, and skewered cutlets to munch on. Beef skewers, pork belly, chicken breast, vegetables - eggplant is great this season. Onions and shiitake mushrooms are also good. But for some reason, I feel like I was chatting with the hostess the whole time. She was a friendly waitress. There were seating areas in the back, but standing was also an option. There were two simple chairs as well. I'll stop here before I give away too much. Oh, the skewered cutlets were delicious. I particularly liked the wasabi salt flavor. Thank you for the meal. I was also curious about the canned bar on the second floor, but maybe next time. After work, I visited a standing bar that specializes in kushikatsu alone. Inside, there is a standing counter at the front and three tables at the back. They offer a variety of small dishes, shochu, and sake. The atmosphere is bright, casual, and has a bar-like vibe. A lovely young woman was running the place by herself. It is easy for women to visit alone as well. Happy hour is from 3pm to 7pm on weekdays and 12pm to 7pm on weekends and holidays. I ordered the kushikatsu set with beer, which includes 5 kushikatsu skewers and a draft beer for 1000 yen (tax included) or with highball for 980 yen (tax included). The beer is Premium Malt. The skewers included beef, onion, scallop, eggplant, and pork belly. The beef is domestic wagyu harami with wasabi and soy sauce on top. It was delicious. The scallop had the adductor muscle with the tendon attached and was topped with homemade lemon butter and salt. The pork belly had a lemon salt seasoning. The breadcrumbs were finely ground in a food processor and fried in lard, giving them a flavorful taste. I was happy with the happy hour set and will definitely visit again.

The first floor used to be a deep-fried bread shop, and the second floor was a canned food store. The first floor was renovated into a standing bar that specializes in kushikatsu, so I decided to visit. In conclusion, it is a bit pricey. For example, one beef skewer costs 350 yen. I was a little surprised because it's not a standing bar price, but they fry each skewer carefully and use good quality ingredients. The speed of service and other operations will likely improve with more practice. The quality of the dishes is high, and it seems like a standing bar that offers delicious food. It's not as polished as TAKA, but it's quite tasty. They have a designer for the shop's decor, but it's a shame that the appearance might deter potential customers who are willing to spend money due to its cheap look. With such quality ingredients, they need to emphasize that they are worth the price, otherwise, customers from 100 yen kushikatsu shops might flock in. On the other hand, the satisfying taste of the Mega Highball adds to the standing bar atmosphere. Overall, I was a bit surprised. If they aim to offer creative kushikatsu in Kyoto with this level of ingredients, it's comparable to Tabito in Kitayama. Once they improve their skills, technique, and speed, it could be worth trying. The way they boil edamame alone shows the kind of establishment they are trying to be, which is quite positive. I wouldn't say rush to go try it now, but personally, I am interested in the business direction the owner will take in the future. Just a suggestion for your reference.

I went to a new restaurant recommended by an acquaintance. It turns out it used to be a tempura place called "Agemono BANBAN" last year. I was a bit disappointed because I used to love their fried breaded items. However, the new place also serves fried food, so maybe they will add it to the menu eventually (probably not, though). The restaurant seemed to specialize in skewered and fried items, more like "kushiage" than Osaka-style kushikatsu. The dishes come with ponzu, salt, and sauce on the side for dipping. You can order just one piece of fried chicken, which is nice. I tried the avocado dish, which had cheese inside. The waitress seemed busy handling orders from other customers, so I didn't get a chance to ask many questions. The area has seen an increase in lunch-only restaurants, making it a tough choice for diners. I'll come back when the staff has more time. The restaurant has counter seating in the front and tables in the back. There are also casual standing bars nearby, so you can enjoy a quick drink before or after your meal.

This is a place where you can enjoy slightly upscale kushikatsu while standing. It's a small shop with a standing counter for about 15 people, and seating with tables and chairs for about 12-15 people in the back, so it can accommodate around 30 people. The freshly fried kushikatsu is delicious even when eaten standing up! (^o^)/

It's been a while since I found a good restaurant! A rare "clean standing bar" in Shijo. Starting with the Agi salt, followed by asparagus, avocado, eringi, and highball - all delicious. What's most impressive is the incredibly clean interior of the store, as well as the high-quality preparation and taste! The unexpected sauce sharing, rather than the typical standing-eating experience, was a nice touch. Personally, I was happy with the strong highball. Definitely want to come back again!
