We visited "Matabe" in Miyama-cho, Kyoto Prefecture. It was a Sunday afternoon when we arrived. The restaurant is located in a village known for its thatched-roof houses. Matabe is a traditional inn with a thatched roof that is over 100 years old. We had lunch there, and were seated in a room with a nice view. There was only one other group of customers when we arrived. We ordered the "Matabe set meal (1600 yen)". It took a little while for our food to be served, but we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere as we waited. The meal included local vegetables, simmered sweetfish, tempura, and various side dishes. The tempura was crispy and light, the black beans were cooked perfectly, and the eggplant miso dish had a great flavor. The bracken fern salad was refreshing with a flavorful broth. The sweet and savory simmered sweetfish was tender and delicious. Everything was so tasty that we wanted seconds. Thank you for the meal.
