I visited to have a matcha parfait for dessert after a meal. The sweetness is very subtle, giving it a grown-up taste with the matcha ice cream. There is red bean paste and warabi mochi inside, and when eaten together with the matcha ice cream, it creates a perfect balance of sweetness. The crispy texture of the cornflakes, along with the chewiness of the warabi mochi and shiratama, was delicious and enjoyable.

Hojicha Parfait for ¥900. This tea shop is located a short walk from Nishiki Market. The first floor is a retail store, and the second floor is a dessert shop. The hojicha parfait was delicious with a subtle sweetness! Toppings included ice cream, shiratama (mochi balls), red bean paste, and cookies. Inside, there was cream, cornflakes, warabi mochi, and jelly, I think! It was a challenge to eat without spilling from the glass due to its generous portion. The warm tea served was also delicious. Visited around 4 pm on a weekday and there was no wait. The staff was warm and provided pleasant service.

During shopping in Kyoto, took a little break at a shop located 3 minutes walk from Karasuma Oike Station. <Snack> Matcha Japanese parfait and matcha shaved ice are sold at this shop, so the matcha is very rich and delicious. The sweetness is also moderate, and it was refreshing. After taking a break, I feel like I can do my best in the afternoon. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal.

After watching the construction of the yama and hoko floats for the Gion Festival's Ato Matsuri, I took a break because I was feeling a little tired. When I entered the shop, it was completely empty. While the streets outside were bustling with people, the inside of the shop was quiet. I enjoyed a set of matcha and traditional Japanese sweets. The matcha was prepared generously in the tea bowl and tasted delicious to my parched throat. The tea had a good froth and the temperature was just right, providing a comforting moment of relaxation for my tired self.

Finishing lunch with today's side dishes, I couldn't bear to leave Kyoto just like that... Saying something silly like "Let's go see the autumn leaves (sweat)" was out of the question. To suppress that feeling, we stopped by this nearby store. The tea shop had a seating area inside for dining. Looking at the menu, they offered not only matcha but also warabi mochi. While matcha alone would have been fine, once my companion ordered matcha, I couldn't resist ordering something different... It's a sad trait of mine. Black sugar matcha warabi mochi for 650 yen. I would have been satisfied with regular warabi mochi, but might as well have it with matcha on top. After all, this is a tea shop. They must prepare real matcha for us. The amount of warabi mochi was more than I expected. The soft warabi mochi was chewy and bouncy. The matcha powder had a slight bitterness typical of matcha, but it was of good quality. My companion's matcha came with a small Japanese sweet as a set. That was nice too. It's a good place to spend a leisurely time. Now, it's time to move on to Osaka. We'll take the subway back to where we parked our car. (Using Ride & Park, today's temporary parking was free, and the train fare was cheaper than regular parking. )

After having lunch, my companion expressed a desire to drink matcha. Since we were in Kyoto, I was confident that we would come across a tea shop with matcha. As we walked north on Higashidori Street, we spotted a place where we could enjoy matcha. I was thrilled to find it and we entered the small establishment. It turned out to be "Chikiriya," a brand of tea that my family often purchases for various occasions. I grew up surrounded by their tea tins at home, so I was surprised to discover this familiar brand in a café setting. The menu offered several options like matcha and zenzai. My companion ordered matcha with a traditional Japanese sweet for 630 yen, while I opted for a Vienna-style matcha for 530 yen. The matcha was delightful and soothing. I felt completely satisfied. I later learned that a new branch called "Chikiriya Salon" opened in Karasuma Shijo in December last year. I wonder if they have a wider menu there. I would love to visit if I have the chance.

I love sweet desserts, especially anmitsu! So, I had been curious about this tea house cafe for a while. Finally, I visited it. I ordered anmitsu, but when it arrived, I was shocked. It consisted of packaged sweet beans, overly sweetened chunky red bean paste, canned fruits (yellow peach, pineapple, apple), and matcha ice cream - with no black syrup. The taste was overwhelmed by additives and sugar, and even the matcha ice cream was just average. The green tea served alongside lacked aroma and flavor, disappointing me even more. Compared to the amazing anmitsu and tea I had at another place for the same price, this experience was a letdown. The cafe's atmosphere, with old songs playing on the radio and a cluttered interior, didn't help either. Honestly, I've decided I won't be returning to this Kyoto dessert place, and I wouldn't recommend it to others.

On a very pleasant afternoon stroll near Rokkakudo, I stumbled upon a shop selling Uji tea! And to my surprise, there was a tea house at the back, so I decided to go in. It seemed like a traditional Japanese sweets shop - lucky me! There were many delicious tea sweets to choose from, but I was most intrigued by the "Chilled Shiratama Zenkai." It was a great choice! While there are many famous traditional Japanese sweets shops in Kyoto, this find in a random place made me very happy. The tea served with the sweets was truly delicious.

It seems like a long-established tea shop located east of Rokkaku Higashitoin-dori, but I hadn't noticed it before as it's not a route I usually take. I visited on the 17th, during the Yamaboko Junko procession, seeking relief from the intense sunlight that made sweat pour down like a waterfall. As soon as I entered, I noticed the tea sales area, with a cafe further inside. The parfait and shaved ice caught my eye, and after some deliberation, I chose the parfait for its unique touch of tomatoes. The matcha soft serve in the parfait was delicious, fitting for a tea shop. The bottom was lined with black sugar warabi mochi. The tomatoes on top provided a refreshing acidity to cleanse the palate. The cafe had just opened on July 13th, so the service was a bit slow, but I'm sure they'll improve quickly. Additionally, it was a pleasant surprise that the cafe was non-smoking, as they deal with aromatic products.

There is cold tea available with soba buns on top, and you can choose from gyokuro or hojicha. It was a hot day, so the cold tea was refreshing and delicious.
