I visited the restaurant on Sunday, July 2, 2023, just before 11:30 a.m., and found that it was open for business. I sat at a table and struggled to choose from the extensive menu. After much consideration, I ordered the mapo tofu rice bowl. The dish arrived incredibly quickly, and I was surprised by the firmness of the tofu. The spiciness was not from Sichuan pepper but from chili peppers. The presentation reminded me of curry rice, with a unique touch.

The lunch menu offers 4.5 attractive options, all of which are appealing. The Mapo Tofu is Sichuan-style and served piping hot. The whole Sichuan peppercorns give it a similar vibe to the Mapo Tofu at Ryumon in Kyoto. Fresh white leeks are sprinkled on top, adding a nice texture that complements the tofu well. The blend of spices is well-balanced, allowing the tofu to shine over the minced meat. The portion size of the Mapo Tofu is just right for a tofu dish, and the pickled vegetables on the side are delicious. The rice portion is slightly generous, but it would be even better if refills were allowed.

I felt like eating Mapo Tofu and visited this restaurant. They serve a spicy and numbing Mapo Tofu that is delicious! The side pickles and soup that come with the Mapo Tofu set are also tasty! Of course, the Mapo Tofu itself is irresistibly delicious! Personally, I really like this Mapo Tofu. It's quite spicy and numbing. Goes well with rice. Highly recommend the Mapo Tofu here. Thank you for the meal!

I dropped by one night, but it was full and seemed like a popular spot. I decided to come back for lunch on a different day.
- The atmosphere is unique and hard to describe.
- I ordered a bottle of beer and it was really good.
- I had the Tianjin rice set for 850 yen. The sauce on the Tianjin rice was rich and had a nice balance of sweetness and soy sauce. It was quite delicious.
- Overall, it's a good choice for affordable and tasty Chinese food for everyday dining. Thank you for the meal!

I was a little hungry, so I went to eat mapo don at a restaurant. It was delicious with just the right amount of spiciness. The portion of rice was a bit large, so I tried to balance it out while enjoying the mapo tofu. There was a Chinese person nearby who said it was the best Chinese food in Kyoto. I want to try various dishes on the menu.

This restaurant is run by a married couple and is always bustling with locals. I highly recommend trying authentic Chinese cuisine here.

First visit to the highly acclaimed Morisenen restaurant. The place was crowded even after 1 pm, with almost all tables occupied. There are 6 regular tables and 1 round table. I ordered the Mapo Tofu set meal for 850 yen. The meal started with soup, a rich and thick soup with beaten egg, clams, and pork - very delicious. Next, there was a dish of onions and green peppers with a savory sauce, accompanied by spring rolls and cabbage. Then came the main dish, the Mapo Tofu. The hot and spicy Mapo Tofu had a good level of heat with a hint of sweetness. The rice complemented it well. Lastly, I poured the remaining Mapo Tofu over the rice, creating a delicious Mapo Tofu rice bowl.

The location of the restaurant is not in a back alley, but in an area that you wouldn't notice if you didn't know about it. However, my husband and I, who are obsessed with Chinese food, visit this place frequently. We can't remember how many dishes we've tried, but the hits were definitely the Sichuan-style stir-fried eggplant, Sichuan-style stir-fried squid, mapo tofu, and the minced meat lettuce wraps. Actually, everything is delicious here. The flavors are strong, but the noodle dishes are a bit milder. By the way, the lady who takes care of the customers has a good tsundere vibe. I tend to sweat excessively when I eat chili peppers or Sichuan pepper, but she always shows just the right amount of concern.

I was introduced to this restaurant by two unrelated acquaintances on different days, and I have been back several times since. The restaurant is located about 15 meters south of the intersection of Chieko-in-dori and Nakadachiuri-dori, on the west side. The interior of the restaurant is very simple, with a round table at the back and six small tables for four people each. The owner, who I believe is Chinese, is very attentive and moves around the restaurant with a smile on her face. The food is Szechuan cuisine, so be cautious if you don't like spicy food. Some dishes allow you to choose the level of spiciness, and if not, you can ask the owner to adjust it. There are photos of the dishes hanging in the restaurant, which I believe are popular choices, so it might be a good idea to order from there. Personally, I recommend the shrimp and pork lettuce wraps, salted stir-fried Chinese broccoli, chicken noodles with scallion oil, stir-fried shrimp with Szechuan pepper, stir-fried celery and pork, and stir-fried eggplant with Szechuan pepper. The flavors are bold, but you can expect authentic Chinese cuisine. It's definitely worth a visit. Please note that the pan-fried dumplings and xiao long bao are not as impressive compared to the other dishes on the menu.
