I went to a restaurant that serves yuba for lunch, which I wouldn't have chosen myself, but I went upon the request of an out-of-town guest. We had a gentle yuba hot pot with chicken meatballs, leeks, and watercress, yuba rice, and cold soy milk at the end. It was a nice change for lunch once in a while. The guest was very pleased, and I would like to bring more out-of-town guests to this restaurant in the future.

There is a yuba (tofu skin) restaurant near Nishiki Market. It's surprising to find such a place in a bustling area like this! You can find it by going up Sakaimachi Street from Shijo Street on your way to Nishiki Market. It seems to be an old establishment based on its appearance. When I visited, there were only about 3 groups of customers. As soon as you step inside, the hustle and bustle of the city fades away, and you are enveloped in a calm atmosphere that is distinctly Kyoto. The spacious interior allows you to relax even if it's crowded. Each person gets their own individual pot for the hot pot dish. The menu for dinner is unknown, but for lunch, they only serve individual hot pots. Once you sit down, it automatically gets served (with an explanation from the staff). The hot pot is placed in front of you, and when it's ready, they open the lid for you. You eat it with two types of sauce - one with just kombu dashi (kelp broth) and another with a mix of kombu dashi and soy sauce. Inside the hot pot, you'll find rolled yuba, vegetables, and tsukune (chicken meatballs), all covered by a large piece of yuba. By the time the hot pot is finished, yuba rice is served. Despite the simple flavors, you'll feel quite full by the end. The yuba soup made with soy milk served at the end is a nice palate cleanser. All of this for just 2000 yen, which is surprisingly reasonable. They also sell yuba as a souvenir. I highly recommend this place for those touring Kyoto, especially for elderly or those who find walking difficult.

Located 4-5 minutes from Karasuma Station Exit 14, we had lunch at this restaurant. The lunch menu consists only of Yuba Nabe, but you can choose from "Basic", "Vegetarian", or "Gluten-free". We chose the "Basic" option and enjoyed a personal hot pot set at our own pace. The staff explained everything and signaled when to start eating the hot pot. The broth options were kombu and soy sauce. In addition to the hot pot, we also had Yuba rice and a small dessert, making us very satisfied. It was a reasonably priced lunch that allowed us to experience Kyoto.

I visited a restaurant near Nishiki Market in search of a solo Yuba hot pot. I enjoyed dried Yuba cooked in a hot pot with leeks, bean sprouts, shimeji mushrooms, chicken meatballs, and Yuba. There were two sauces available, one with salt in kombu broth and the other with soy sauce in kombu broth, along with black shichimi pepper and sansho pepper. The meal included Yuba mixed rice and a dessert with soy milk and slightly sweet agar. The flavors and textures of Yuba were enjoyable, the mixed rice was satisfying, and even men would be pleased with this delicious lunch that truly captures the essence of Kyoto.

I made a reservation for lunch. I knew they only had Yudofu hot pot on the menu for lunch, but when I asked if they had beer, I was surprised to find out they didn't. What surprised me even more was the staff's reaction to my question. I felt a little sorry for not knowing, but I was surprised that no one else had asked before. The Yudofu hot pot was delicious. The Yudofu rice dish was also amazing. I wondered if it was okay to eat at this price. Given the current situation, it's fine to eat in silence, but I felt a little disappointed that it's really just an eat-and-go type of restaurant.

I happened to come across this place and decided to try the lunch set with yuba hot pot for one. The texture was great and the meatballs were delicious. You eat them with two types of dipping sauce, salt and soy sauce. The yuba rice and tofu pudding were also very good. I plan to buy some souvenirs next time.

During my last trip to Kyoto, I was intrigued by the large bag of dried yuba (tofu skin) displayed at this store in Nishiki Market. Despite the lack of any price indication on the bag, I decided to take the plunge and purchase it this time. The store had a charming traditional Japanese atmosphere, with a seating area where you could enjoy yuba hot pot. I was a bit hesitant about the price, but I ended up buying the large bag of dried yuba for 2700 yen. It was a bit pricey, but when I got home and started using it, I realized it was worth it. The thin yuba is versatile and can be used in miso soup, udon, nimono (simmered dishes), and more. It adds a subtle soy milk flavor, a nice texture, and enhances dishes like tamagotoji (egg and yuba simmered in broth). It also works well in stir-fries as it absorbs the flavors. It's a convenient way to add protein to your meals and it also helps enhance the umami in your dishes. Dried yuba has been a great addition to my cooking repertoire!

As a specialty store for yuba (tofu skin), the yuba here had a strong soybean flavor and was delicious. It's hard to find yuba tastier than here. The chicken meatballs in the hot pot were also very tasty. I thought I would only feel full from eating yuba from start to finish, but I ended up feeling satisfied.

When it comes to Kyoto-style yuba (tofu skin), Chitamaruya is the place to go. I was introduced to it by a geisha many years ago and have been hooked ever since. Chitamaruya's dried yuba is known for its rich flavor. You can even enjoy a dried yuba hot pot for lunch. The umami and broth that come from the yuba are outstanding, with a simple yet deep flavor. You can feel the care and dedication that goes into squeezing the soybeans every morning. The dried yuba hot pot comes with Sakura Kaneyo's sweet soy sauce, which the owner sought out in Kagoshima as the perfect match for Chitamaruya's dried yuba. For souvenirs, I recommend the value packs of yuba or dried yuba. Yuba is considered a preserved food, but the oil in the yuba can go bad within a few weeks, so it's best to eat it quickly. This is a testament to the fact that there are no additives. The only downside is that they no longer offer yuba rolls.

I wanted to eat yudofu so I went to Kyoto. The shop I usually go to in Kiyomizu was closed for lunch and I was in a hurry, so I found this shop instead. I called ahead and mentioned that I might not make it in time for lunch, but the staff kindly said it was okay to come even after lunchtime. As expected, I arrived after lunchtime, but they welcomed me warmly. The yudofu hot pot lunch was delicious and comforting on a cold day. The atmosphere of the shop was also very nice. If you ever visit Kyoto, I recommend stopping by this restaurant. The staff are also very lovely!

On Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM!! Lately, I've been into light and healthy lunches. I had some errands in Kyoto, so I decided to have lunch at a place called "Senmaruya Honten" which serves Yuba hot pot. The restaurant is conveniently located near the Nishiki Market. I parked my car at a nearby coin parking lot and headed to the restaurant. There was only one group of customers when I arrived. The lunch menu consisted of Yuba hot pot only, and each table had a stove for cooking. There were two female staff members working. I was seated at a table with a view of the inner garden. I chose the basic Yuba hot pot option. The hot pot arrived quickly, and the staff explained how to cook it. After about 7 minutes, the hot pot was ready to eat. I started by trying the Yuba with kombu broth and then with soy sauce broth. The Yuba had a firm texture and the kombu broth added a subtle flavor. The different shapes of the Yuba, rolled and tied, provided a variety of textures. The vegetables cooked in the hot pot were delicious, and the ground chicken meatballs were tender and flavorful. The meal ended with a dessert of agar jelly with soy milk, which was light and refreshing. Overall, the Yuba hot pot lunch at "Senmaruya Honten" was a delightful and healthy choice. I recommend it for a satisfying meal while exploring the shopping district in Kyoto.

On a regular Thursday at 10:00, the customer who entered was not crowded. I bought Yuba Shiruku for ¥1026 including tax and Kumiage Yuba for ¥1026 including tax, totaling ¥2052 including tax. It seems like you can eat hot pot in the store. I enjoyed it at home. Thank you for the meal.

I had lunch at a long-established yuba (tofu skin) shop located a little outside of Nishiki Market. I ordered the limited 20 servings of eel and yuba hot pot for 3,500 yen (tax included). The hot pot is served individually. The eel is made into balls with minced meat and placed in the hot pot. It was refreshing and delicious.

At the recommendation of a friend, I visited the restaurant "Senmaruya Main Store" for the first time and tried their delicious Yuba hot pot. The exterior and interior of the restaurant have a very calming and pleasant atmosphere. The lunch menu consists of only Yuba hot pot, priced at 1980 yen. The Yuba was unexpectedly thick and had a satisfying texture. It is served with two types of sauces - one with kombu broth flavored with sansho pepper and salt, and the other with ponzu sauce which goes well with vegetables. The mixed rice served with the hot pot was also delicious with a strong flavor. I felt happy enjoying the delicious Yuba from lunchtime. Thank you for the meal.

Eel and Yuba Hot Pot - 3500 yen Limited to 20 servings per day The regular Yuba hot pot here includes chicken meatballs, which are delicious. This time, I tried the eel and Yuba hot pot. The Yuba hot pot here is really tasty. The menu only offers Yuba hot pot and Yuba rice set. It's a perfect way to end a trip. It's gentle on the stomach after eating out. ☺️

Since its establishment in 1804 (the first year of the Bunka era), this long-established store in Kyoto has been specializing in "Kyoto yuba" for 200 years. In Kyoto, far from the sea and with many temples and shrines, "Kyoto yuba" is an essential part of Kyoto cuisine and vegetarian cuisine. The people of Kyoto have been familiar with "yuba" in simmered dishes and in ankake for a long time. "Yuba" is also a preserved food with an 800-year history. A few years ago, the Edo period-established long-established yuba shop "Senmaruya" renovated its main store and started offering "yuba hot pot". The lunch menu only has about 6-7 table seats, and reservations are a must to enter. The lunch consists of only one yuba hot pot, using traditional "dried yuba". The owner ordered the "Senmaruya's Yuba Hot Pot" for 1800 yen, while I ordered the "Pike Conger and Yuba Hot Pot" for 3500 yen, a limited edition dish for the summer in Kyoto. The hot pot is cooked at each small table with two stoves available. Despite the hot summer in Kyoto, the simmering hot pot is so captivating. The pike conger is clearly visible, and the yuba is a true representation of Kyoto. The ingredients and process are very simple, using high-quality soybeans and water, cooked with skilled techniques to bring out the absolute confidence in the taste of yuba. The hot pot contains chicken meatballs, and the yuba soaked in chicken essence is delicious. The texture of the yuba is firm and has a pleasant elasticity. I enjoyed the three different textures of yuba to the fullest. The set also includes yuba rice and dessert. The yuba-infused rice has a subtle soybean aroma, typical of Kyoto. The dessert is yuba soup (soy milk) with agar agar. It was so gentle and soothing, making me want to howl in delight. I have been ordering takeaway yuba to recreate the yuba hot pot at home, cherishing the wonderful taste. It is the preservation of history and the simple taste that heals and nourishes, contributing to Japan's longevity.

You can buy souvenirs at the long-established Yuba shop "Senmaruya", and you can also eat in. Try the Yuba hot pot and Yuba rice to experience the gentle flavors of Kyoto for lunch. After the meal, buy Yuba as a souvenir to take back to Kyoto. Highly recommended for those who want to casually enjoy Yuba dishes!

There are many ingredients such as lily bulbs and ginkgo nuts in this dish, and it is very delicious so I often buy it. When simmered with white miso, it is excellent. The chewy texture of the yuba is indescribable. This is definitely something I will buy again. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived around 1:00 PM and was able to be seated without waiting. The menu for the day was only one option, which was Yuba hot pot + Yuba rice + dessert set (around 2000 yen). The taste was excellent. What surprised me the most was the amount of Yuba provided. It's a place where you can fully enjoy Yuba. I would like to go again.

I enjoyed yuba so much that I had some sent to my home. Now I can make yuba hot pot at home too. I was told to eat it with ponzu and dashi broth with salted kombu. The staff at the restaurant taught me how to do it.
