Do you eat tonkatsu in Kyoto? I tried it at Katsukura (lol). It wasn't particularly amazing, but I ordered the pork loin cutlet. Hmm? I didn't really taste the pork fat much. The breading and frying were done well, but I was a little disappointed. It felt like a true Kyoto tonkatsu place! The miso soup and pickles were impressive. The miso soup had a red dashi base, I think. The eggplant in the soup was delicious - the soft eggplant with a hint of sansho pepper in the miso soup was so good that I couldn't help but say "delicious!" The pickles were also tasty. It made me think, even the pickles in Kyoto are delicious in a Kyoto shop. Anyway, just walking around Kyoto gives you a good feeling. Next time, I'll visit Kyoto at night for drinks. As for dessert, I had a melon shake (limited time) at McDonald's. Thanks for the meal!

This shop is my first visit in a year. I visited a shop in Tokyo half a year ago, but the atmosphere of the shop is completely different. The taste of the food and the menu are the same. Last year, due to the coronavirus, there were hardly any foreigners, but this year, there was a line in front of the shop, and most of the people were foreigners. The taste of the food is crispy, not greasy, and does not cause indigestion. The pickles are also delicious. My husband and I love meat, but I wonder if my wife prefers shrimp over meat? We used it with our family during the day. We ordered: 1. Premium Three-Element Pork Loin Cutlet (200g for 3620 yen) 2. Kirishima Mountain Foot SPF Pork Fillet (120g for 2140 yen) 3. Children's set? I had the "Premium Three-Element Pork Loin Cutlet". The meat was tender. However, the sweetness of the pork was a bit lacking.

Family trip to Kyoto for sightseeing. My wife wanted to come here. It's a popular restaurant, so we had to wait in line, but we were eventually seated downstairs. The rice, tonkatsu, and pickles were all delicious, but the tea was... bitter? It tasted like diluted cigarette water (sorry). I assume the tea is famous for a reason, but I was left wondering, why? Mr. Katsukura's Katsudon (which they call Katsuju) has a taste that you can't experience anywhere else! It has ingredients like those in sukiyaki, and the half-cooked egg is irresistible. The miso soup, which you can have refills of, had clams and daikon that day, I think. Maybe it's the broth that makes it so delicious. It's really flavorful. I was surprised by how good miso soup can be.

Lunch on weekdays, I prefer something that arrives quickly and can be eaten right away. The fried food was prepared quickly after ordering, and the oyster fry was piping hot. I squeezed lemon over it and enjoyed it thoroughly. The fish cutlet was also excellent. It was all very delicious. Thank you for the meal.

The set meal with vegetables and pork cutlet at Katsukura used to be delicious about 15 years ago, but recently it hasn't been fried crispy and doesn't taste as good as before. The fried vegetables were tasty though. The fact that you can have unlimited rice, miso soup, and cabbage is a great point. However, considering the quality of the cutlet, it might be better to go for a pork cutlet bowl instead.

When it comes to tonkatsu in Kyoto, "Katsukura" is the place to go. In my younger days, it felt like heaven with unlimited rice, cabbage, and miso soup. The popularity of this place has not waned, as it was fully packed even on this day. The Katsukura pickles make it easy to finish two bowls of rice in no time.

Looking for lunch in Shijo Kawaramachi. Wasn't in the mood for Katsukura, but a menu caught my eye. "Higashi no Takumi SPF Pork." Had Hirota Ranch last month. Today I'm drawn to Takumi. The name is a letdown. Hirota Ranch is better. Looking forward to trying Nishi no Takumi next time.

I have been to the Sanjo main store many times, but this time, it's my first visit to the Shijo Teramachi store! It's right next to a young men's store, and the location is convenient and easy to find. The interior of the store is small, with only a counter on the first floor. I wonder if there are table seats downstairs? After a busy morning of shopping at department stores for souvenirs without breakfast, I finally had an early lunch. I ordered the daily tonkatsu set for ¥1140. With a 10% discount for adding as a friend on LINE, it came to ¥1020 (tax included)! There are 3 types of sauce, cabbage, miso soup, and rice. Refills are free! The mille-feuille tonkatsu with sweet potatoes, green vegetables, and meat mixed in was incredibly delicious! The barley rice was a nice touch. The pickled mustard greens for refills were also tasty. The sauce drizzled over the shredded cabbage was also delicious. The service from the staff was excellent, and I couldn't refuse when asked if I wanted more. I left feeling full and satisfied. Thank you for the meal! I will definitely visit again.

I work in Kyoto and visited a popular tonkatsu restaurant. The entrance was narrow and easy to miss, but inside there were counter seats on the first floor and table seats in the basement. I ordered the "Rosu Katsu set" which came with cabbage, rice, and miso soup. You can get free refills for all of them, including the extremely thin shredded cabbage which was delicious. The meat was well-balanced with fat and very tasty. The total cost was around ¥1,700, which I realized was the cheapest option on the menu. I had no idea this place was so expensive, I've only been here out of ignorance before (laughs).

After the unexpected long wait to purchase a commuter pass after the entrance ceremony, I was starving. I decided to go for a hearty meal. I used to go to Katsukura for lunch often, but it was my first time going for dinner. The food was different, but the tonkatsu was just as crispy as always. The set meal came with miso soup, cabbage, and barley rice with free refills. I had an extra bowl of miso soup to warm up my cold body. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Near Kawaramachi, I felt like having tonkatsu for lunch, so I decided to go here! It is located at the entrance of Teramachi shopping street from Shijo Street. As I entered, there were menus at the entrance to decide what to eat. The narrow passage led to counter seats, but it felt cramped, so I went downstairs. There were only table seats, but the edges felt dark, so I chose a bright central table. On the table, there were yuzu dressing, thick sauce, and tonkatsu sauce, along with pickled vegetables and mustard. I ordered the "Seasonal vegetable and yuba-wrapped katsu with fillet katsu set" for 1,560 yen (excluding tax). It came with 3 pieces of katsu wrapped in vegetables and yuba, and fillet katsu. First, I grated the sesame seeds myself, which was nice to do during the waiting time. The cabbage was served with yuzu dressing, which was light and delicious. The crunchiness of the cabbage was amazing. The fillet katsu was tender and satisfying, easily cut with a fork. I enjoyed it with plenty of sauce. The thick sauce was also good. The vegetable wrap felt healthy and the fillet katsu was the best. The miso soup with carrots, daikon, and wakame had a strong broth. A great service was the option to have refills of cabbage, miso soup, and barley rice. I had extra cabbage and miso soup. My companion had the "Sangen pork katsu," which seemed a bit small but they seemed satisfied. By noon, the restaurant was almost full. It's a popular place with a good location. During a family trip to Kyoto, we got hungry and decided to stop by this restaurant. It was during Golden Week and late in the day, so many other places were closed. We were happy to find out that they offered unlimited rice, cabbage, and miso soup. But the highlight was definitely the tonkatsu! It was delicious, crispy, and the meat was just the right texture. The shrimp fry was also big and satisfying. Everyone in the family was pleased and we left the restaurant full and happy to head back to the hotel.

This is my second time at Katsukura! As always, I ordered the hirekatsu. The vegetable yuba roll was light and healthy!

The food is delicious, but the dining environment is not very good, it is very noisy, and there are many foreigners.

On December 14, 2022, I walked from Sanjo to the main store. There was a line in front of the store, so I went to the Teramachi store instead. There was no wait at the Teramachi store, so I went in and ordered a crab cream croquette and a pork cutlet with crab meat sauce. I also tried the steamed egg custard for the first time, which was piping hot and comforting in the cold weather. It was delicious. I had cabbage and miso soup, and I even got a second helping until I was full.

The food was delicious as always. I think I had the pork cutlet set. It was so tasty! I wonder if they changed the miso soup, it tasted even better to me. The sauce and everything seemed to blend even better with the rice. It was just amazing! However, when I went to the restroom downstairs, I noticed a strong smell coming from the huge air conditioner. It was quite bothersome. The staff, the atmosphere, and the food were all great, but this kind of ruined it. I hope they can take care of it. I gave a lower score because of this issue. (I think it's not good for the health of the staff working there either!)

At Katsukura Shijo Teramachi store, they have a summer limited menu using Kyoto vegetable "duck eggplant" called "Fried Duck Eggplant". It comes with a 120g loin cutlet, barley rice, miso soup, and cabbage, all-you-can-eat.

I sometimes go to Kawaramachi when I want to eat tonkatsu. I like sitting at the counter where I can watch the tonkatsu being fried right in front of me, making the experience enjoyable not just for my taste buds but also for my eyes.
