I had made a reservation at a restaurant in Fushimi for dinner that day, so I decided to take a train from Gion Shijo to explore the area near Fushimi Inari. Right next to the station, I noticed this shop. It is a specialty store for rice crackers and rice snacks. There were small bags of Fukudaruma on display for 150 yen each, which seemed like a good deal in terms of both quantity and price. I decided to buy some to give to my colleagues at work. When I entered the store, I saw a wide variety of rice crackers and rice snacks lined up. I was drawn to the rice crackers made with glutinous rice that still had grains of rice visible, so I decided to try them as well. Each bag of rice crackers was around 700 yen, a bit on the pricey side, but they were generously portioned and had a good weight to them. The Fukudaruma had a nostalgic flavor reminiscent of egg-scented senbei, with a light texture that made me want to have another one. The rice crackers had a firm texture and a rich flavor. They tasted even better when paired with hot Japanese tea. The shop owner was very friendly and a great conversationalist. When I mentioned that I was planning to explore the area, he recommended visiting Byodoin Temple in Uji, as the restoration work had been completed and the autumn leaves were beautiful. So, I decided to hop back on the Keihan train and head to Uji. This casual interaction during my travels brought me a lot of joy and made for a delightful time. Thank you for the meal.
