Today I had a job in Shijo, which changed to another location in Shijo, so my lunch options increased dramatically, which is great. Today I had udon and sake at the neighboring restaurant. It's my first time here. I ordered the daily lunch set for 990 yen, and I chose the cold udon. It's so hot today, and it's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow. My meal arrived in just 5 minutes! It included potato cold salad, rice, pork shabu salad, and a mini cold udon for less than 1,000 yen. The pork shabu with sesame sauce was delicious, and the potato cold salad had a Chinese taste to it, also very tasty. The mini cold udon was served in a chilled bowl, perfect for this unseasonably hot weather. The noodles were slurpy and delicious, perfect for today's weather. The constant flow of customers is a testament to its popularity. I finally got to visit the place I originally wanted to go to...! It was amazing! The food was delicious! The owner was making everything by themselves. I ordered the udon set, but the owner told me that I could make any bowl into a set. So I ordered the egg udon that I really wanted to try, and I think it was supposed to be a parent and child bowl. The egg was fluffy and the udon was a bit thin. It was easy to eat, so just the udon alone was enough to fill me up! But I recommend trying the bowl too - it was so delicious! Watching the owner work so hard and serving the food hot and fresh was the best part. I plan to visit again to try a different kind of udon!

The first Kyoto sightseeing spot is Otonari-san! It's a ramen shop with a counter where you can see the kitchen, with about 8 seats, and 3 table seats. I was seated at a table. I ordered curry udon with beef and Kujo green onions, and tempura udon. The bonito broth was incredibly delicious. I will definitely come back!

This is an udon restaurant located very close to the four train stations. When I entered around 12 o'clock, there were no other customers, but when I left before 1 o'clock, there were several people lining up. The shrimp tempura udon and beef curry udon were delicious. The broth tasted different from Kanto style and felt fresh. It was really tasty.

I visited the restaurant on a weekday night in January 2023. I had the fox udon (680 yen), which had slightly thin noodles and was served piping hot with a large piece of fried tofu. The broth was a bit stronger in flavor than expected. I also had the oyakodon (450 yen), which came in a large rice bowl topped with plenty of kujo negi. If this restaurant were nearby, I think I would go quite often as the prices are reasonable. I left feeling completely full.

I had been curious about this restaurant. I decided to visit for a late lunch and was able to get a table. The inside of the restaurant was filled with the aroma of dashi broth, making me even hungrier. For me, lunch means oyakodon and noodles, so I went with the egg drop udon and mini oyakodon set for ¥1130. While waiting for the set to arrive, I listened to the sound of the udon boiling away. Finally, my set arrived! The fluffy egg drop udon had a delicious broth, and the mini oyakodon was surprisingly filling. The chicken was flavorful and the best I've had this year in an oyakodon. I should have ordered the regular size instead of the mini... The side dish of okara salad was a nice surprise, different from the usual pickles. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

I was drinking at the famous izakaya "Kamba" in Senbon Nakamise, but I felt sorry for the walk-in customers who were turned away without a reservation, so I decided to leave early and give up my seat. I had planned to revisit a bar I liked the previous night, but I couldn't settle my stomach. I searched for a nearby udon shop to have a meal before going there, and I found one. When I opened the door, no one was there. I had a bad feeling about it. I called out, "Excuse me, can I just have some udon?" and someone in the back replied, "Sure, no problem." The menu was brought to me, but without looking at it, I requested, "Can you make a hot an-kake udon?" "Oh, you mean keiran udon. It's not on the menu, but I can make it for you," they said. I apologized and placed my order. After a while, the udon was served. It had the grated ginger I requested, but it seemed to be pre-grated, not freshly grated... As for the taste, it was neither exceptionally delicious nor terrible, just average for a udon shop in Kyoto. I didn't really think it was amazing, but I also wouldn't say I would never visit again. It's more like depending on the circumstances, and this time, it was conveniently close to the hotel I was staying at... Well... Well, it's fine. Thank you for the meal.

The added prosciutto and soft-boiled egg are like the main characters, and the smooth, thin udon noodles are delicious. The other a la carte dishes also have a good quantity and quality. It feels like a izakaya-style restaurant? The set meal with potato salad had more volume than it looked. After eating this, I don't think I can drink anymore. Everything was delicious.

Saffron Saffron found a delicious looking restaurant next door and entered nervously. The kind chef guided to a spacious table. The restaurant is clean and tidy with a lovely restroom. It's a rare find for enjoying udon at night, as there are not many options in the area.

Udon and sake at a neighboring restaurant on Higashinakadoin Higashidori, Bukkoji Temple. Although it is a udon shop as the name suggests, it can be used as an izakaya in the evening where you can drink alcohol. We tried the tempura rice bowl, tempura udon, and Kasa bowl, but unfortunately, the tempura batter seemed to have been used for a long time as it had a taste of oxidized oil, leaving a lingering taste in the mouth despite the shrimp being delicious. Also, the amount of broth in the tempura rice bowl and Kasa bowl was different, with one having no broth and the other being very soupy, resulting in completely different flavors.

As soon as the store opened, I ordered the daily special of tempura rice bowl and sliced fried tofu udon. The udon had a rich and delicious broth. The fried tofu was not as sweet as expected. The tempura was crispy and the egg was runny. It had chopped seaweed on top. The broth was a bit light, I wish there was more. The side dish was pickled vegetables, which I enjoyed as an older gentleman.

I visited around 19:30 on a regular day. There was one customer before me.
- Mini Tendon (tempura rice bowl) for 600 yen: The tempura was crispy and satisfying. The cluster of maitake mushrooms was delicious. The shrimp, pumpkin, and green pepper were also tasty.
- Small side dish: The flavor was good. It had a nice seasoning without relying on bamboo shoots. It was refreshing to see that it had hiziki seaweed mixed in.
- Avocado and anchovy potato salad with prosciutto and soft-boiled egg for 580 yen: It was enough for 2-3 people. It was delicious but not something you should order for one person.

The counter is shaped like an L, allowing a view of the kitchen. It feels more like a ramen shop or izakaya than an udon restaurant. At night, it has a vibe similar to an izakaya, which seems appropriate. I ordered a set with tempura and a mini udon. The tempura included shiitake mushrooms, two pieces of lion's head peppers, pumpkin, eggplant, two shrimp, and chikuwa. The eggplant was juicy, and the broth was hot enough to burn my tongue. The batter was crispy but not heavy. There were separate containers for dividing the ingredients, but I didn't use them because I'm stubborn. The tempura sauce on the rice was delicious on its own. The udon was incredibly soft and nostalgic, reminding me of eating udon when I was a child with a cold. The tempura was tasty, but I felt like 990 yen was a bit expensive. I'll try a different rice bowl next time.

I went to this new restaurant in the neighborhood. It serves udon and alcohol. The tempura is fried right in front of you after you order, so it's very crispy! They have a wide variety of alcohol, although I didn't drink any this time. I might try some when I come back at night. The udon noodles are thin and have a nice chewy texture, very delicious! Since it's hot, I ordered cold udon. My friend had a set meal, which was also very tasty. Thank you for the meal!

Due to the coronavirus, I haven't updated for a long time, but I really want to upload this shop. It's an udon and sake shop located about two streets away from Karasuma Shijo. They have a variety of Japanese sake and shochu, and I'd love to go there at night to enjoy udon and small dishes with drinks. Unfortunately, I can only go during the day now. I stumbled upon this place while wandering as a lunch refugee. The small and calm interior is run by the owner and a female staff member. I wasn't expecting much, just wanted some light noodles, but when I took a bite, wow!! The noodles are thin, with just the right amount of firmness, exactly to my liking. I ordered the warm chicken tempura udon that day, and even though it was warm, it maintained its firmness, not just elastic but with a good bounce. Where are these noodles from?! I wanted to ask, but refrained from being too forward. And the broth. The broth is delicious. It's easy to drink, not too light or too strong, a happy feeling of gratitude for being born in Japan. Of course, the chicken tempura was piping hot, with a crispy coating and tender meat, no complaints. I want to try other tempura udon dishes as well. I felt like going back right away. On my revisit, I ordered the cold kitsune udon for 680 yen. It's wonderful. Delicious and great value for money. Thank you for opening nearby. Don't let the coronavirus defeat you!

I ordered the daily lunch special. The rich broth and chewy thin noodles went very well with the cold udon, and the chilled pork shabu-shabu side dish paired nicely with the rice. Consistently delicious.

I dropped by this restaurant on a whim. It was full, but had a calm atmosphere! The food was delicious and warmed me up. This is the Mentaiko Ankake Udon.

Beef and green onion udon with mini tempura and egg and rice bowl. I wonder if it falls under the category of Kyoto-style udon or Kansai-style...? The noodles were soft but not as soft as Kyoto-style, more like a bit chewy. I usually prefer noodles with a firm texture like Sanuki udon, but even though it's not my usual preference, the gentle texture was delicious. The broth was strong and assertive, using not just bonito flakes but other types of fish as well. The color of the broth was quite dark, but it didn't have a strong soy sauce flavor, so I think it can be considered Kansai-style broth. The shrimp tempura was plump and delicious. As for the egg and rice bowl, the flavor was quite rich for a tamago-don. If I were to visit again, I might skip the bowl and go for a tempura assortment instead.

I ordered the daily lunch set for 990 yen. It came with udon, rice, and two side dishes. The udon had a strong and delicious broth, but it was a bit spicy. The rice was tasty. This lunch is important for me! The daily side dishes were meatballs and fish fry, which were freshly fried after I placed my order. They were crispy and delicious. Considering the distance from my workplace, the taste, portion size, and price, this lunch is almost a regular choice for me!! Thank you for the meal ♫

What is "nani-kei udon"? It was a beautiful udon that combined a fluffy, chewy, bouncy, and smooth texture. I had the kakiage udon. The broth had a clean bonito flavor that matched the atmosphere of the restaurant perfectly. They also served a stylish small dish of cream cheese and vegetables. It was a great place to enjoy a leisurely meal, but when it comes to having udon for lunch, it might feel a bit rushed.
