- I purchased the following items for takeaway: "Japanese-style Pancake" (220 yen), "Dorayaki Ogura" (190 yen), and "An Butter Dorayaki" (330 yen).
- The total came to 740 yen.
[Recommended Points]
- The "An Butter Dorayaki" is absolutely delicious.
- The "Japanese-style Pancake" for 220 yen is a product that can be enjoyed multiple times at home.
- Warm and friendly customer service.
- Located just a 1-2 minute walk from JR Yamanote Line Sugamo Station or Toei Mita Line Sugamo Station, the "Sennari Monaka Honpo Sugamo Store" stands in the shopping street in front of the station.
- Established in 1937, this traditional Japanese confectionery store has been in business for over 80 years.
- What caught my eye this time was the "Japanese-style Pancake" displayed at the storefront. It contains several layers of dorayaki skin for 220 yen. The naming as "Japanese-style Pancake" immediately drew me in.
- Upon entering the store, there were also many classic dorayaki available. The small and cute "Sennari Goshiki Monaka" also caught my attention.
- The items I purchased were as follows:
* Dorayaki Ogura (190 yen)
- This is the essence of "dorayaki" flavor. The moist and chewy texture of the skin creates a consistent taste.
- Try eating it while remembering Doraemon. The satisfaction level of "this is dorayaki" is outstanding. (laughs)
* Japanese-style Pancake (220 yen)
- It contains 6 layers of dorayaki skin. The lovely touch of honey can be felt.
- Whether eaten as is, slightly toasted, or with butter, the deliciousness remains unchanged.
- The product description includes the following as suggestions for variations: "As is / 5-8 seconds in the microwave / 30 seconds to 1 minute in the oven toaster / with butter, honey, jam / sandwiched with cheese, ham, bacon or salad / with whipped cream or ice cream..."
- All of these options evoke a delicious image. In particular, although I didn't try it this time, I would like to try "sandwiched with cheese, ham, bacon or salad" next time.
* An Butter Dorayaki (330 yen)
- This is so delicious! I would definitely want to bring this as a souvenir.
- They add butter inside after ordering. It seems essential to eat it on the same day.
- We chilled it in the refrigerator at home to prevent the butter from melting (they provided ice packs to keep it from melting during takeaway), then grilled both sides until slightly crispy just before eating.
- The crispy texture on the surface, the sweetness of the skin, and the perfect balance of the bean paste and butter's salty taste make it superb. Even though I'm not particularly good with sweet foods, I thought, "I want to buy this again...".
- Such delicious items go well with beer, shochu, whiskey, coffee, tea, cola, anything. (laughs)
- By the way, it was delicious even when the solid butter inside didn't melt. I actually found it more delicious to eat it solid, as the combination of the external heat and the coolness inside was delightful. I would like to try melting it next time.
- As we were about to leave after paying, the staff kindly gave a small Japanese-style pancake to a child.
- From start to finish, the calm and kind customer service, along with such service, left me nothing but gratitude.
- Since the child is 1.5 years old, we haven't actively given him adult food, but we decided to try giving him a traditional confectionery from the long-established "Sennari Monaka" store. We felt grateful for this opportunity.
- I immediately gave it to the child, and he ate it eagerly. He had just finished a delicious meal and should have been full, but he devoured it.
- Conversely, this was a good opportunity, and we are grateful for becoming accustomed to gradually choosing adult sweets and giving them to him little by little.
- There is also a small eat-in space available, so dining in the store is also possible. Many people were enjoying the An Butter Dorayaki inside the store.
- The accessibility from Sugamo Station is good, and it is a Japanese confectionery store that I would like to visit frequently. I would also like to use it when I need to buy souvenirs. Thank you for the meal.
